    Hi Martin! Thanks for sharing your experiences regarding choosing universities! This has really made me rethink about which universities I plan to eventually pick and choose, and the reasons why! The part where you spoke about the prestige of a university has really spoken to me, as I come from a more face-orientated culture that heavily focuses on the prestige of a university. However, your video has helped me dig deeper and question myself, rather than just choosing a university for its prestige.
    Can't wait to see your future successes.

    you mentioned in your video that you’re currently a med sci student, could you tell us more about or show how student life there functions? I’m curious about the “school spirit and party life” that you mentioned in the video, as western is notorious for both.
    can we get a res or campus tour in an upcoming video? 👀 let’s see the gas station again

      Day in the life? I'm not so much about that party life as I live more on the quiet side of things. Don't worry, Western has a place for people like me who aren't too into the party life.
      Also, res/dorm tour is probably coming soon! Stay tuned!

    Hi, I’m currently debating between UBC or Western for genetics, I was wondering if Western’s science programs have co-op? And how is the reputation for the faculty of science? Btw, thank you! This video was really helpful!

    • @Martin_Leung
      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! First of all, thanks for watching! It means a lot that my video helped you!
      For Western, there are opportunities to apply for an internship in year 3 (more info at www.uwo.ca/sci/undergraduate/careers_and_internships/science_internship_program/index.html) however this competitive and not a guaranteed position. As far as reputation goes, UBC is one of the top universities in Canada but again it's what you want out of your university experience that will ultimately finalize your decision. Also, I'm sure that you'll have no regrets choosing either of them because in the end, it's you who will decide what you get out of your post-secondary experiences!

    Hey man this video was really helpful since I'm in college right now and looking to transfer to university but I haven't picked a school yet, what school would you recommend for sciences?

    • @Martin_Leung
      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! Definitely look finances first because in the long run, nobody is going to care which institution you graduated from (therefore getting into debt that you cannot handle is a bad idea). I'm sure we all know how bad being in debt is in theory, but it's even worse when you're actually experiencing it so I don't want anyone to feel that.
      Ask yourself, "what do I value?" Is it quality of education, school spirit, parties/events, variety of clubs, research or whatnot. Find a school that adheres closely to what you want to get out of your university experience. You can find all this information with the amazing thing we know as the Internet! I mentioned location in the video, so talk to locals, visit the city and think about how far you are from home!
      In the end, it's not about my recommendation as much as it is your preference! If you have the means to go to a good school and believe it's worth the money then it's your choice to make. I believe that my program (Western University Medical Sciences) will prepare me well for medical school, that's why I went there. However, you must do your own research because this is your life and your future. Remember to weigh your options carefully and don't hesitate to reach out to trusted adults on the topic! This may be a stressful time deciding, but enjoy the moment and keep working towards your future goals!
      td;dr This is a very personal question, but I tried to answer the best I can. I like my own program, but it's all up to your personal preference in the end! Weigh your options with close friends and family and once it's settled, then make your choice! Good luck and don't get too stressed out by big choices like this!

      Babar Masood hi, I’m still a high school student but I would recommend you look into the University of Waterloo!! they are well known for co-op, which can put you ahead of the game with work experience AND you’ll usually be able to finance your own education by third year

    Hi! I’m a international student and I need help deciding what universities are the best to pursue social work right now the best university I read about is trent and ubc but ubc is super hard to get into so can anyone tell what university might be the best for social work and is studying social work really worth it?

    • @Martin_Leung
      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gurmannat! I'm not so sure about that one 😅 Like with many things, I don't think the undergraduate program matters as long as you get the qualifications to do that line of work. If you need the degree to do social work, then go for it. I think the only person that can tell you if it's worth it is someone already working in that field, and yourself. If you know this is what you want to do, then going into a field you enjoy is worth it most of the time. Sorry I couldn't be of more help in this case though, I don't have a lot of exposure to this field 😬

    u of t was brutal but if i had to go through it all over again, i would. i made good friends, learned how to study effectively, and definitely felt prepared for medical school by the end. i'm now in my third year of med school but i'll never forget my roots. if you are determined enough you will be able to succeed at u of t no matter how poorly you did in high school. I went from almost failing my 9th grade biology to getting As in advanced organic chem, physio, and neuro courses at u of t. to do well you have to grind for 4 years straight but it's definitely worth it.

Any advice related to that like if I am targeting data science which would be your top picks as there are several option like Calgary, ryerson, York, alberta, etc.

    • @Martin_Leung
      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, there's no correct answer that I can give you outright. However, I can ask you a few questions and maybe you'll have a better idea!
      - Are there subjects in school you particularly like or are good at? If no, are there any skills that you're good at or are interested in (like if you're good with your hands)?
      - If college seems like a no-go for you, ave you looked into options other than college like an apprenticeship?
      - Do you have things that are going for you outside of school? for example, are you in sports, run a business, or have any unique hobbies like fixing things that you can monetize?
      If you're looking for a quick answer for easy to get into and is useful, I'd say business... however it's so broad and you also need a specific skill of being a good networker and for some people, it can be hard to be successful in that! I think we need a bit more details about you before we can come up with a plan here but hopefully I got you thinking a little!

      @@Martin_Leung Hey i was wondering if there was a uni degree that has good job stability but is related to Humanitites (social studies)? i'm having trouble finding an accessible degree like that, and if it would be worth the cost.

    • @Martin_Leung
      @Martin_Leung  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@charliecrump350 Thanks for watching! I'm not qualified to speak about this because I haven't looked into the humanities myself and don't have many friends in that field. However, the jobs I could think of right now are the following: teacher, writer/editor/journalist and lawyer (requires more school). If you're worried about the cost, is it because of potential career earning vs price of degree? If so, you can major in a degree that is higher paying (preferably it's something you still like), and minor in humanities if that's something you love. I'd speak to people who are currently taking a humanities degree for more information!

      hi, so I applied to urban planning at the Waterloo and Ryerson. I don’t know if they’re “easy” to get into, as I have a 95+ admission average. however, I will say that they’re programs that require only English and there’s a growing demand for urban planners. additionally, I believe that both universities allow you to graduate with some of the credentials you need to become a certified urban planner without pursuing a masters, as well as the opportunity for co-op positions to get some work experience in.

    • @leonakuo4072
      @leonakuo4072 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charlie Crump if you’re worried about cost and looking to pursue a further degree, might a recommend double degree programs? for instance, you can apply to Laurier for an arts + llb program, or queen’s for a bachelors + teaching degree, or Ottawa for bachelors + law degree
