So I’m 66 and discovered Tool 2 years ago. I was blown away by them. Back in the 1990’s, my kids liked them but I totally judged them by the way they looked! I’m a huge hard rock fan, mostly 70’s. Think Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Neil Young, etc. So Tool is definitely my jam.
I remember when I was 16 (1996) and heard Aenima for the first time… I was scared. But it was a good scared. It’s like that flash of light you swear you saw, but no one believes you. Love that the new genny is into it and appreciative of the master ship that is TOOL. 🌀🌀🌀
I'm sitting here, in Bologna, Italy, watching someone from the other side of the world experiencing one of my favourite songs for the first time. That's beautiful, to live again my emotions vicariously through you Cheers, and enjoy your voyage through the Tool galaxy, you won't regret it
I know right??? I’m in Canada thinking the same thing! My spine hasn’t tingled like this since I was a teen!!! I went out to my old poster/t-shirt shop and it’s EXACTLY AS IT WAS 30 YEARS AGO 😂 GOT ME A TOOL SHIRT!
2:28 stunlocked. Still happens to me sometimes. There is no cure, but much like addiction symptoms, you can build a tolerance and lead a normal life without others knowing.
Here we go again!! Welcome to one of the greatest bands of all time. Tool, made up of Vocalist Maynard James Keenan, Guitarist Adam Jones, Bassist Justin Chancellor, and the Octopus on Drums Mr. Danny Carry. In general Tool can be divided between their early years which had a more aggressive, angry tone and their later years which is more spiritual and reflective. Each member are elite musicians, Tool only sounds like Tool and are a genre all their own. Maynard writes all the lyrics, and his performances are on par with some of the greatest vocalists in history. He is also a vocalist for A Perfect Circle and Puscifer both of which I highly recommended to dive into. Tool fans will tell you to stay away from reacting to any of their official videos as they distract quite a bit from the songs and lyrics, I typically recommend to just listen to their music first and then on a second go around pull up the lyrics, we promise, it'll add dimension and depth to the entire experience. Tool fans are devoted and love to watch reactions of people’s first time listening, to say they are unique doesn’t do them justice. Take your time with reactions, we don’t mind if you pause and analyze, a lot of their music is open to interpretation which is fun for all of us. Spiral out and have fun on your journey...oh and YES headphones are a must! The Staples The Pot 46 and 2 Lateralus The Grudge Sober Schism Pneuma 7empest Right in Two Vicarious The Patient Deeper Cuts Jambi Hooker with a Penis Pushit Pushit (Salival Version) Eulogy Disposition / Reflection / Triad (All in a row) Invincible Culling Voices Decending Swamp Song 4 Degrees Parabol/Parabola Ticks & Leaches No Quarter Maynard’s Dick Songs related to Maynard's mother. Judith Marie Keenan, a devote Baptist, suffered a paralyzing cerebral hemorrhage when Maynard was just 11-years-old. Judith would remain paralyzed for 27 years (approx. 10,000 days) until her death in 2003. Jimmy Judith (A Perfect Circle) Wings for Marie (Part 1) 10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)
you're pretty spot on with your initial analysis. pot=calling the kettle black as the saying goes. "liar/lawyer, mirror show me what's the difference?" as someone below said. double entendres galore! That's just Maynard's way. He's a lyrical genius. Meld that with their off-beat time signatures and you have a one of a kind band. glad you got to discover them and are enjoying the mastery they bring. Peace
Broooooooo, your reactions to Tool are so genuine. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌀🌀🌀🌀 Looking forward to more. I don’t even know what to recommend because it’s all so good. Try eulogy, the patient, parabol/parabola, right in two, Lateralus. 🤣🤣🤣 sorry but looking forward to all of those and all of the rest of them. 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
You'll love the lyrics to The Grudge. Before you do the songs about his mother Wings For Marie and 10,000 Days (Wings pt2) at some point (Both should be listened to in a single sitting btw) there are a few other tracks you need to hear leading up to them, including the title track from the first album Opiate and a track called Judith by the singer Maynard's other bad A Perfect Circle. Be sure to seek listening order advice when it comes to Tool stuff otherwise you'll miss some important context and being able able to see Maynard's personal journey with religion and his mother's long illness and eventual death.
Love your reactions bro Check out their songs Parabol/Parabola, Pneuma drum cam from Danny (Tool's drummer Danny Carey is one of the best drummers still alive, he makes odd time rhythms sound groovy and natural which is hard and insane. Like when you watch that Pneuma drum cam video try to predict the beat he plays, he switches it up so much and yet it doesn't sound off and Its just so cool), Schism, The Grudge, theres just too much good stuff for you to check out by them
This is my absolute favorite Tool song! #1 on my playlist, this is my jam! The kangaroo is referring to a kangaroo court, where the outcome is already predetermined and they just go through the motions of a trial. The drum cam video of Danny Carey while they play Pneuma is a video I watch over and over, I highly recommend checking that one out.
You're not alone. I felt the same way. Thats just how powerful music is. It can make us obsessed even when thats not a feeling we are used to having. But Tool is the real deal. You should be blown away. Im going through a Fela Kuti obsession right now.
I've been listening to tool since the 90's and its always wonderful to see that look. the one of just amazed joy at hearing this music. It does something to you that sits deep in your chest and stays with you for the rest of your life.
Welcome to the Tool rabbit hole! I think you'd enjoy and respect their song 'Right in Two'. It is unlike anything you've ever heard and will take you on a journey you will never forget. Hope to see more!
..i picked up opiate right when it came out. saw them in a club in santa barbara in ‘94. got kicked out for fighting, but was friends with one of the bouncers, and he got me backstage. there is tool, and then there’s everyone else..
For your next TOOL selection, try "Vicarious". It's a social commentary on the human condition of enjoying horrible, violent acts, purported on others, as long as it's not them.
Ain't no shame in Googling. I've done it a lot with Tool! Also, the look on your face towards the end was priceless!!! You can't take this song in without making that face (unless there's something seriously wrong with you...like you don't like music)
10,000 listens in you'll still get Stankface every fuckin time. Your new favorite band. Welcome to the TOOL ARMY we've been waiting for you. Lurch into the fray. Keep your weapon out and belly in. Pray for rain and tidal waves and Spiral out my friend. New sub, great reaction sir.
Haha, I love watching your facial expressions - I'm doin' the same thing. This song is one of my favorites and completely agree with the masterpiece comment.
Maynard's lyrics are not about some particular hypocrite, he is singing about *hypocrisy.* He switches freely between the meanings of "the pot," both per the kettle and the weed, to reveal the layers of hypocrisy, one on top of the other.
If you want music that takes you somewhere, check out Disposition, Reflection, Triad (the holy trinity) from the Lateralus album. They all go together and it’s worth a listen.
I’m wondering if you’re ready for DECENDING or TEMPEST? If you’re already a TOOL fan and haven’t gotten to these yet then all I can tell you is based off of your reactions and how they impact you, you need to get yourself really ready for these 2 tracks. I’m really enjoying you as a true reactor and not an “ actor”.
Love the Tool reactions. It’s all a blast. I wouldn’t worry about getting the lyrics too much. Not uncommon for people to get different meanings from the same song. Which I think is great. But yeah, hypocrisy is a common theme in a lot of tool songs. “Eulogy” is another “easy” one. Keep going.
love your reactions bro.. idk when, but in some point you need to watch TooL's Pneuma drum cam video.. it will change the way get the music at least.. spiral out !!
I love watching someone become a fan of Tool!!! They are the best to me!!!’ So many stupid songs , songwriters that suck. Maynard James keenan is one of the best songwriters the guitarist is extremely gifted, the bass too, and Danny Carey the drummer one of the best ever

Did you just call Neil Young “hard rock?” 🤓🤓🤓
So which No Quarter? 😂Don’t worry. No judging. They’re both great!
Tool finds you when you're "ready." Never too late.
Good for you dude! TOOL is this modern centuries Mozart. X
drummer is 62 years young and my opinion the best drummer in the world
I'm sitting here, in Bologna, Italy, watching someone from the other side of the world experiencing one of my favourite songs for the first time. That's beautiful, to live again my emotions vicariously through you

Dad used to tell me i was full of shit up to my eyeballs when i was bullsithing him lol
Eyeball deep in muddy water makes me think of this lol
2:28 stunlocked. Still happens to me sometimes. There is no cure, but much like addiction symptoms, you can build a tolerance and lead a normal life without others knowing.
Politicians are about to hang! FACTS! Pay Attention!
Yeah… “the pot” definitely refers to “the pot calling the kettle black” - that’s why you hear him sing “when you piss all over my black kettle”
This is a good band to become obsessed with.
PRY OPEN THAT 3RD EYE, WELCOME BROTHA!! IT ONLY GETS BETTER!!
It’s so awesome to watch people’s reactions to Tool, it’s almost like a mirror to back in the day when we first heard the songs.
Indeed bro
One of my favorite things lol
it's OFFICIAL! TOOL ARMY... LET'S WELCOME JB WITH OPEN ARMS AS WE ALWAYS HAVE. WELCOME MY SON LOL
The pot calling the kettle black. Pure hypocrisy.
This song is the king of the double entendres. Brilliant lyrics, brilliant vocals, and brilliant instrumentation... this one has it all!

Yes definitely a take on that with a dash of pissing on someones cornflakes!!
Too many good ones to recomend but i would Highly Suggest the Danny Carey drum cam of Pneuma (live). Words cannot do justice....
Broooooooo, your reactions to Tool are so genuine. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌀🌀🌀🌀

spot on bro. its about hypocrites. "pot calling the kettle black" type stuff. "liar, lawyer, mirror show me, whats the difference?"
You’ve just revealed to me the meaning behind the songs name, the pot calling the kettle black. Thank you sir!
Hahaha! Welcome to an amazing journey🤘
Love it my brother! The phrase you are looking for is 'the pot calling the kettle black'.
Welcome to the Tool Army brotha!!! Enjoy the experience!!
"Pushit" and "The Patient" are great Tool songs for some more emotional lyrics 💔
They have many songs that are "Masterpiece" listen to all and read the lyrics, 30 years of excellent music and artistry!
You had it figured out from the start. Great review. Keep it up. Welcome to the Tool Army! My faves: The Grudge, Lateralus, Pneuma and Vicarious.
The writing, vocals , drums and bass are stellar and they use the guitar perfectly for their music
Every lyric video claims the lind is Shed without a reason,
But I swear it's either [blood]shot without a reason
Or
Shocked without a reason.
The Pot, as in the pot calling the kettle black.
Welcome to the tool army!
I heard them in 93’ for the first time….I’m still obsessed so 🤘🏼🌀
I’m here for your journey bro
First heard them in 1993, and I'm 59 now. The wizards of Tool are still the penultimate masters of lyrics and sonics.
I saw them in 93 too. They played the small stage at Lalapaloosa.
THE GRUDGE....
The tool rabbit hole runs deep. How about "pushit" (studio version first), "H.", or "the patient."
Jambi next...🔥🔥🔥🔥
Welcome to the Tool Army! ❤
You'll love the lyrics to The Grudge.

You are absolutely correct!
Dude, I'm really enjoying your TOOL reactions. Reliving my first time hearing them all over again.
Tool DEFINITELY has it's place in rock n roll history. ⭐💖😎
Kangaroo court: Google it. He is speaking in metaphors plus bars combined AND intertwined.
Now that you googled it listen to it again.
46 & 2 Next??
For your next TOOL selection, try "Vicarious". It's a social commentary on the human condition of enjoying horrible, violent acts, purported on others, as long as it's not them.

Finally someone reacts to maynards lyrical run. That and the first scream are the absolute peaks of this song. 2:50
So few reviewers check the lyrics of this one. Think you are on the right track. Thanks for the video
