God bless The Wildhearts. Best band ever.

One of the biggest bands to never make it big, if that makes sense. They were so self destructive and the lineup changed so often that they really struggled to breakout but they were an integral part of my teenage years in the 1990s. Absolutely loved them.

I only discovered The Wildhearts myself a couple of years ago. Strange band history, always falling out with each other then reuniting. They have a large back catalog. If you want to know their influences listen to their track "29 Times The Pain". One of my favourite tracks is "Rooting For The Bad Guys", it's quite a journey. Plenty of other songs to check out. I find their hooks start to stick in your brain after the 2nd or 3rd listen.

Start from 'Earth Vs." & work forward. I'm kinda jealous that you get to do this from 12 yr old PoV. It was great in 96..

    One of my favourite bands.
They never managed to break through in the States sadly.
Huge back catalogue plus loads of solo work from Ginger and CJ.
As you point out on the influences, Ginger quite a fan of Cheap Trick so that's where some of the power pop tracks come from.

They did a song called 29 X The Pain and the lyrics is basically a list of the bands they were influenced by and were fans of. It's a brilliant song that appeared as a B side on the Suckerpunch EP. I have lost count of the amount of times I've lost my voice singing along to this band when I've seen them live.

My first proper gig with my best friend Steve was April 7th 1996 age 14 (he was 13) The Wildhearts in Leeds. This single was released the very next day. In keeping with the song theme it was advertised as including "free grass". Literally, every CD came with a felt mat impregnated with grass seeds and fertiliser so you could actually grow grass. Mine lasted a couple of months, gardening was never my strong point...😅

Yeah.. this one isn't heavy as metal... strap in if you're exploring the catalogue though. And the phrase y'all are looking for is "Brit Rock" (which must be destroyed lol)

Don’t try to categorise Ginger/The Wildhearts….they have so many facets and styles…….to see their softer side try ‘Playing it forward’, ‘How I survived the punk wars’, os ‘Swimwear’…….take a deep dive, you’ll not be disappointed!

What do you make of the new line up? I'm a fence-sitter tbh. I sort of know the guitarist from the Main Grains, smashing chap & great guitarist and singer. It just seems a bit of a leap to me though...

@@DaveyHotrod I'm looking forward to it - seen Ben with Ginger a few times on the solo tour over the last 18 months or so, and I think he'll fit. With Random back it's like 50% of the "Must Be Destroyed" lineup, so should be good!

@@neildavies2276I've met Ben on many occasions at Main Grains gigs as Ginna & JJ are my friends, he's a lovely lad & a super talented guitarist. And once randomly (pun intended) was in the next room in a hotel to Jon Poole. I'm not sure about it, maybe I'm just getting old & resistant to change. The music will probably still be belting though...

@@DaveyHotrod I know what you mean, when Ginger announced that there would be a Wildhearts gig in London in summer 2024 from the stage in Chesterfield in May 2023, I was hoping for the classic lineup. I thought to myself that there have been three drummers, three bass players, four guitarists (if you include Mark Keds!), but it seems strange when they all change at once.

Gotta be honest, I listened as good audio quality and like reacions, but youve got it really wrong, this is from 1996 not hte 80's and it's the UK so a whole diff scene, it's alternative rock/punk experimental, same time as The Prodigy and Faithless were doin their thing too, it bridged a gap from the Metallica/Iron Maiden etc guys and the Faith no More/Nirvana guys at that time, also White ZOmbie doin their thing experimenting wise, it was that time period, plus I wanna go where the people go is the edgy song not this, they drop the c bomb oh yes they do lol! What a band, going to listen to that track now, bit too judgy on your channel for me, good luck thou
