“Services” can be ridiculous. My elderly neighbor had a toilet that wouldn’t flush. He paid a contractor to come out and say he would fix it for $175 and he said he’d have to come back because he just didn’t have it. I don’t know anything about plumbing so I have no idea what the issue was but my FIL does so we told him and he went over there and fixed it within minutes without needing to replace anything…
These are all good solid money principles to follow. The one thing I would add is that if you don't take risks and grow, you will always be low income. You have to invest in yourself, build your skills, and learn how to make money by investing. Whether that's in real estate, stocks, your own business...it doesn't matter- you just have to build something. Interest rates are just relatively high so it's been a shock, but historically they are right where they should be. My dad used to say, "It's hell to make a living." In his lifetime, he saw a great depression, multiple recessions, 18% interest rates. Life has always been hard.
All excellent points. Accepting challenges and taking risks and working like dogs in the early years (and for us graduating from college) made our lives what they are today. I only suggest college if you’re getting a useful degree because of the expense of it today. Interest rates back in the 1980’s were almost 14% for a mortgage. I think people need to choose a path, make plans and stick with it. And don’t have kids unless you can afford it. BC is free for most people - and I’d happily pay extra taxes if they made all BC, vasectomies and tubal ligations free for everyone regardless of income.
We’ve been doing this since the 1990’s (we’re old, but I enjoy your channel) even though we were not poor. I read The Tightwad Gazette (you can get it from your local library which is what I did) which changed everything about the way we lived. We still follow the lifestyle of people with a low income. My heart breaks for people that can’t make ends meet especially with children. I hope your channel can help them, but there are a lot of places to go for assistance. ❤
I’ve heard it’s now available as a pdf. on the internet. Not sure where, but I’ve heard from people saying that’s how they read, The Complete Tightwad Gazette.
This is pretty much how we do it. Fortunately no debt. We pay bills by CC, pay off in full and cash in the points. We also stocked up on foods etc. Its going to be interesting this year. Best of luck to all!
I don't understand why you don't have more subscribers than you do because your videos are very informative and thought out. You have done your research and know (from experience) what some good practices are to live frugally and financially smart. I think a lot of folks don't want to do the "work" to plan out a budget and be thoughtful about spending money. They also don't want to sacrifice having "stuff" so they go in debt and eventually it catches up to them in an emergency because they aren't prepared. Some folks have the attitude that I'll just go to the food bank or depend on family to help them instead of being financially prepared. Even though I try to live frugally I have enjoyed watching your videos and have learned a few things as well.
Good tips. I especially like the suggestion of learning skills. My father who grew up on a farm during the depression repaired everything himself. He even hand dug a swimming pool in the back yard with a shovel and poured the concrete so we could have a pool. Many are afraid to try things on their own. I'm grateful he taught me these things.
I had 6 months "emergency " money saved up in 2021. After reevaluating it, I needed to add to it, since my rent has gone up 200.00 a month in 2 years. My utilities and car insurance as well. Maybe when planning for months of "emergency" money, add more for the increased costs in the next couple of years.
I buy markdown items like dented cans and day old bakery products. Also meat marked down that is near the expiration date. I do all my home repairs. No fast foods or eating out,
Good video. I love hanging my clothes out to dry in AZ. In summer they get dry in about 10 minutes flat. 😂😂 🌞 🔥 🌵 I am focusing on planning out my year in January and how much I plan to save.
Really appreciate these ideas you’re sharing. I also ordered the Clever Fox planner using your link. I like how you show how it keeps you understanding things and the color charts will also help me too
I love your videos. So neat that you have a gas fireplace in your rv. I’m curious are either of you working right now or are you living on TH-cam income? I know you said your bills are still only 1,000 per month which is amazing. Also, I’m interested in how you invest your money. For example, the money you made in the sale of your home.
What’s really funny is that if you are lucky enough to have a savings account with enough to live off of for even a few months, oftentimes social services will count that against you when you need basic help to meet your family’s needs
All fellow Australian were organising a boycott of coles and Woolworths over the long Easter weekend. We’re bringing power back into the hands of the people. We’re gonna boycott them till they return their prices to pre covid Please help make comments and spread the word over TH-cam, Facebook and instagram. Thank you
Developmental Psychology BS, Child Development Associate (CDA), CAD Drafting & Design AS. And completed 75% a Business Finance Degree and 50+% of a Elementary Education degree - I just decided I would actually hate to work in both of those fields 🙃
It’s dependent on where you live tbh. A good place to start would be the US poverty guidelines - a family of 4 at $30K. But I would be much more lenient than that. If you are struggling to meet your basic needs and you don’t spend excessively, then your income is low.
How about talk about how to do these things when you barely have enough to get by day to day. It’s no way to save 6 months of expenses when you can barely pay rent. Stop thinking in a bubble
You both need real jobs These suggestions are nothing new Everyone knows this You are saying this just to try and make money Your husband has a responsibility he has a child
I mean, the irony of telling me I made the video to make money but also that I need a “real job” 🙄🤣Times are changing and even (or especially) a “real job” doesn’t lead to financial stability anymore.
Having less money really does COST MORE than being wealthy: th-cam.com/video/gfW82RDrnFE/w-d-xo.html

I've been doing these tips all my life, I also bought a off grid property so I can move around where ever I want and have a home base.

Totally agree!!! 🙌
I think it’s supposed to be; that’s how we learn.

I have all 3 books of the tightwad gazette and still use some of the ideas from them

I do all these things! Mostly no extra spending for years!
i unplug all small appliances! no need to keep them running electric all day long
started to follow Dave Ramsey and several channels about frugal living. Been a live changer, no financial headache anymore.
Dave Ramsey is my hero!

Things are tough. But the practices outlined here and on other channels, if practiced, make a significant difference.

Excellent advice.
Love your videos, as always helpful ideas to help with finances.
Prices for similar products can be as much as 300%-600% different in price at different stores.
Buckle up 2024 is gonna be wild.
Recession?
Yup 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Thank for sharing this was helpful.
We are using the planner you use.
❤️ I hope it helps you meet your goals this year!!
Some of these comments were a tad “ nasty”! Always wonder what status those people making mean comments is?☹️
You can tell how a person feels about themselves by the way they treat other people.
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
New sub. Great video. Congrats on your bonus🎉
Restaurants are such a luxury.
good words!
Great video
I think most are already doing all these things.

Few questions need asking how the hell we got in this place rampant inflation rocket high energy prices in the uk small business are closing every day
Get advice from people in south america, we've doing way more than this since 1990
Katie , great advice. What degrees do you have from college?
Developmental Psychology BS, Child Development Associate (CDA), CAD Drafting & Design AS. And completed 75% a Business Finance Degree and 50+% of a Elementary Education degree - I just decided I would actually hate to work in both of those fields 🙃
What's considered low income?
It’s dependent on where you live tbh. A good place to start would be the US poverty guidelines - a family of 4 at $30K. But I would be much more lenient than that. If you are struggling to meet your basic needs and you don’t spend excessively, then your income is low.
Jesus Christ is coming 🎉🎉🎉
Amen❤
Hopefully a few more decades
Is so hard to save now lol 😂
Nothing new here...been doing this for 40 years.
Florida has some great programs for low income people. Bummer you left.
💰
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Hang your clothes out on the line like we all live in homes with yards smh .
Clothes dry hanging up inside too. Near a window or heat source makes them dry faster.
Yup, we do this

Go watch my other videos. My family lives on $1000/mo. I have worked hard and weird to save money on a very low income.
You both need real jobs
These suggestions are nothing new
Everyone knows this
You are saying this just to try and make money
Your husband has a responsibility he has a child

probably they are making a couple hundred per month with TH-cam even
Some viewers may be viewing this channel for the first time.
Wtf is a real job anyway I bet that exists in the real world.. like the world I've created isn't that.
This couple is trying to help. Younger people don't have our experiences so they seek out ideas.
get rid of the dog
That’s like saying to get rid of my kid.
