  • If you need an original DEVA metal primary gear bush in custom sizes let me know. I can offer bushes in custom sizes to suit worn out cranks/primary gears, and also original small tail 850 cranks. This is how I do it…..

    Never been a fan of the old minis but must say I do enjoy watching your engineering videos

    No idea what’s special about DEVA but lovely bushes. Always nice to watch a bit of turning.

      They are made from self-lubricant materials. Once you machine them correctly they don't need maintenance

    Very good work. Precision engineering using manual equipment. Well produced video.

    DEVA metal is Graphite Bronze Alloy 640, but is not commonly available any more because of environmental reasons as it contains lead and will soon disappear altogether. As an alternative MoS2 Sinter Bronze is mentioned by some suppliers.

      DEVA actually comes in many grades and the one you quote there is not the one used here. Thanks for the tip re modern replacements.

    What should inner clearance be on the top hat bush be? I have a new primary gear what needs to be turned down.

    • @ACDodd
      @ACDodd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What’s the application? And what is the bush material? Is is a new gear from a supplier?

    • @jamesrickwood6333
      @jamesrickwood6333 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ACDodd is a new gear from MED its there straight cut gear set with floating bush. It's for a turbo build I don't know the material they use but I could ask then.
      Thanks

    Hi,
    I send out my bushings to be fitted and then ground to size not turned. Finish is much smoother obviously. Have you seen any downsides of leaving them the way you do it?

    • @ACDodd
      @ACDodd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not in the 30 years I have been doing them, and the finish I leave is a honed finish not turned.

    • @ammgarage
      @ammgarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ACDodd How do you hone them in the end?

      I don’t hone them I just apply the finish

    How do you set the gear up so accurately for the final sizing with the 3 jaw chuck on the teeth of the gear, very impressive?

    • @ACDodd
      @ACDodd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a combination of using a worn Chuck and sometimes needing to shim the gear to get it to run true. Watch my other primary gear videos

  • @waynep343
    @waynep343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since you are removing so much. Did you save the turnings to use if you have enough to cast up additional slugs.

    • @ACDodd
      @ACDodd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it’s not cast it’s pressed. The material is simply weighed in.
