Honda Rebel 300: On the Highway, Part 2

- As discussed in the previous video, the Honda Rebel 300 can absolutely do highway speeds. But, is it an enjoyable experience? Can it handle prolonged 70-75mph rides for 2 or 3 hours? Does the engine vibrate uncontrollably? How hard does the engine work during prolonged highway runs?
These questions are answered or, at least, I give an idea of what to expect in these situations.

Keep in mind hes a much larger fellow, I have the CB300f, same engine, and Im 5"8 at 145 and I can rip around at about 96mph. Sustained speeds of about 90ish.

I'd say 60-65 mph (Stay in the right lane, please...) cruising wouldn't hurt the bike...

Hmmm!!!! Never been on a Honda Rebel 300 but it looks like it might be a good starter bike. Since im a bigger guy it might struggle to reach 70-75mph range (definitely gonna need the wind).😂 awesome video man, be safe out there bro!!!
Dude, it's a fun little bike...but I can see needing a little more in the future. I saw a big ol boy riding the Rebel a few weeks back, I think the rear shocks were struggling more than the engine...haha
Yeah I can see Honda upgrading this machine just in case a bigger dude wanted one. That’s funny the back spring was having some issues.

I'm a big guy... and I have this bike. and you are right! I took it like twice on the actual freeway (110kph) and I am having trouble getting up there :D I use it to and from work and strictly in the city. I wish there was like a 650 or 750 version of it.
I weigh a 190 pounds and I have had the rebel up to 80 miles per hour on the level roads here in Southern Texas. I still had some throttle available so my guess is she will do 85 to 90.
Hey Moto, I ride a Honda Rebel 250 and I get her to 70 mph on the highway, but she is usually screaming at me for doing it lol. Ride safe and nice bike

Here in Canada, people drive at 100, 110 on the right lane that'd be 62-70 mph I think. I did a lot of highway back in 2005-2007 on my 1981 Honda Cm 400 Twin. How does that Rebel compares to that knowing that its a single but fuel injected and 6 speed?
All that heat you feel is because the rad is wide open for the hot air to flow to the rider. On a CBR300R, exact same engine and speeds you feel no heat whatsoever because of the fairings.
Love that bike. But I look silly on it...I mean, I look silly on the Rebel, but I'm far too big to get on the CBR300r.
Moto Noir isn't a CBR 300R bigger than a Rebel 300? In Hight
@@PhillipReina CB300R is shorter and just looks a lot smaller. At 6' I look like a circus bear on a kids bicycle on the CB, but the longer wheelbase of the Rebel and fat tyres make it look OK. It's the same chassis as the Rebel 500, whereas the CB500 is totally different to the CB300.
I'm 4'11" sitting around 117lbs. I live in Los Angeles county so you can imagine the horrible amounts of traffic. The median speed I go is around 45mph on the freeway, unless when I go to work... 90mph in my car max at 12am. I was wondering if a 300 would be acceptable for my situation (traffic, lack of going out of town, and the median mph I am allowed to go on the freeway). Please send help! I have no riding experience except for the MSF course lol.

Yeah, you should be able to.
I’m doing 80-85 sustained on highways like almost daily. I’m also not overrevving 5th. Like 5th gets very little attention from me whereas I’m full throttle in 6th usually on highways though.
Awesome. You have to remember, I'm nearly 6'4" tall and about 210 lbs. That Rebel wasn't meant to lug around a person like me. It was a good bike for me to learn on...but it was by no means a great highway traveler.
Everybody else on you tube is getting 87-88 mph top speed stock on the 300 rebel except for one moron too dumb to know the rebel has six gears who never took it out of fifth gear. Moto Noir you should check your air intake to see if there is a baby wipe stuck in there.
Awww, poor baby. LOL, what an assclown. Did I say I was doing a top speed run? Nope. I said it was sustained highway speeds. Sustained. Which means real life riding...up hills, down hills, corners, and straight lines. I've hit 90mph on the bike...but can the bike do that ALL the time? NO! You should listen more carefully.
How is the comfort? You said that you took a 2 hours ride, how was your butt during and after that ride?... One of my hesitations on buying a bike is comfort because with a car I can kind of move around in the seat which doesn't seem possible on bikes.
Ha! Yes...the butt was numb. Just stop, take a break...have some water or a soda, and get back on the road.
I got the Rebel 300 a couple months ago, and I agree with your assessment. I use it for short hops to work on week days, and on the weekends I cruse the back roads at 55-60 for a couple of hours. I'll probably upgrade to a more capable mid-range bike in a year or two, just to expand my travel options, but thus far the 300 has been a great first street bike.
Amen...my exact sentiments. I'd say I'm maybe a year and a half, two years, away from upgrading. No need for upgrading as of yet.
Moto Noir My current obsession is the Kawasaki Vulcan S, but that may well change by the time I'm ready to upgrade.
Moser 357: Yeah dude. There are days that I really love Yamaha's XSR 700...other days it's an SV 650. Or Triumph Street Twin. So many middle weight choices.

Nice vlog...I most certainly wouldn't want to do a long trip on that bike (or mine for that matter). When we ride up to the mountains for the day, I dread the hour long ride up on the highway, doing 70-80mph to keep up with the peeps I ride with...getting beat by the wind...makes me crave a fairing
You don't like battling the wind for 2+ hours?? LOL! Non-riders don't understand just how brutal the wind can be.

Countries all over the planet have 300cc and less bikes as the standard and they dont have issues. Granted we have long stretches of highway but I think it comes down 100% to rider size. im 5'4" 135lbs, i deal with Houston insane traffic all the time, interstates at 75-80ish. Never a problem. Im not shaken to death, I do have a liquid filled seat cover that helps tremendously and a shorty windshield. Those two simple things make a world of difference.

1:40 to 1:45. I'm sorry but I couldn't disagree more. Vibration from 35 to 50 isn't jack compared to noticing is the most between 52/53 to 58/59 mph. 1100 ish to 1200 miles on my rebel 300. I notice no vibration really until mid 50's mph in 6th gear.
I'm curious as to why you're getting real or hardcore vibration at 35 to 50 mph range in 6th gear?
I'm not in 6th gear when going 35-50mph, and that's not what I said at all. I said, "Otherwise, when you're at speed, like you're heading 70mph, it's really not too bad. In 6th gear, the bike is not too buzzy."
If you're riding at 35-50mph in 6th gear, then yeah, I image it's not too buzzy...I also know you're not getting anywhere very quickly, because you're in the wrong gear for those speeds.
Ok, cool. I'm used to shifting to 6th gear at around 38 to 40mph when I go to work in the morning on hw 80 from Pearl ms going through jackson MS before I connected to i 220 interstate going north by north west-ish. So now you and I are on the same mental page gears-wise. Yeah i agree about the buzzing at 4th and even 5th gear at 35 to 50...( especially even 5th gear at 45 mph)
I do see what others say about the rebel 300 being a city bike versus an interstate highway bike though. MPG wise- it prefers 52 mph or below in 6th gear to ensure betweeen 73 and 86 mpg depending on if you're doing 50/50 local highway/interstate I've noticed. I'm on fuelly.com and have tried a few different varieties of routes from my commute path.

I got about 125-140 miles per tank, mixture of city and highway riding. I never really tested highway fuel range tho.
I have the rebel 300 with 2500 miles on it and I get 69 miles per gallon. Some stop and go and some 45, 65, and 75 miles per hour. Just did a 153 mile ride and used 2.2 gallons of fuel. The low fuel light blink at a 150 miles. It is possible to get 200 miles out of a tank before it's completely empty. I believe that if you cruise at 45 miles an hour you should get 75 miles per gallon. The rebel 300 is a great little cruiser.

Thank you! I will say yes, absolutely. Going around town will be no problem riding two-up. Just keep in mind, you'll probably have issues if you need to go faster than 50-60 mph. As always, ride safe!
I find no problem with the seat. I used to ride bicycles all the time and this feels like sitting in a Cadillac. The right hand numbness is bad though, any tips on that?
Yes...get a clip-on throttle controller. They're amazing on longer rides. You control the throttle using your palm allow you to decouple your fingers and parts of your hand from the vibration. You can get them pretty much anywhere...revzilla, amazon, etc.

I've rode the 500 a few times, made me wish I had it..honestly. It's basically the same bike, but with better highway performance and less vibrations.

You could do it...the bike can do it. I would buy a really good seat pad though, after 1 hour the seat gets very uncomfortable.
I have a 300 but I’m thinking about upgrading to a bigger engine bike. In the near future ill be doing alot of highway driving and road trips. While I love my 300 for getting around town, I don’t like how it feels like it struggles to get up to 65-70+

What doesn't make sense? My bike is also probably heavier than your scooter. I'm also 6'3'', 205 lbs, so I'm more than likely a larger human than you are. The bike goes 75 mph w/out much problem...but asking it to go beyond 80 for long stretches, is a bit much. What's not making sense?
Am looking for a starter Bike, and in love with the rebel style.. Am 6”3 280 pure sexy Hispanic Muscle, and when I ride my little 80cc scooter I can hit 50.. So the rebel can hit 75+ but it stresses out engine of 250cc
Will the bike have issue with you size and highway speeds or should I get the 500?? This will be a first bike that’s why am considering 250 so I can teach wife to ride
@@dannyboytruckingadventure5415 Yup. If you need a bike to take you 75+ mph...this bike is not gonna do it. You'll be asking the bike to do more than it was intended on doing. Get the 500cc if you like the Rebel...it will be better for you.

@Nick Vetter : You're tall like me...you might want to look at other bikes...the Rebel is compact, not great for taller riders.

@Nick Vetter : That's a tough question, depends on what kind of bike you're looking for.
If you're into cruiser-ish bikes, Kawasaki Vulcans are great...you can custom fit the bike for taller people at no extra cost. The Yamaha Bolt is another great one. These are more full-sized bikes and very comfortable to ride for taller riders. Don't let the price tag fool you. If you're financing the bike, the prices are only 10-20 dollars in difference and the bikes are definitely beginner friendly.
Or the Kawi Versys- it's a more adventure touring type bike, but great. And it comes in a 300cc version. I actually nearly bought one myself, before settling on the Rebel.

I pretty much said it all in the video...Sure, it can do highways. But, you'll be slow and have little acceleration beyond 65mph. But yes, it can go those speeds.

Three Dog: First of all, great name...Second: yeah dude, get a slip on or a full system pipe. The stock exhaust system is pretty quiet. It's not a whisper, but more like a bag of cats than a lion...if that makes sense? There are affordable options out there and forums dedicated to this exact topic!
