Nah, no offense but I'd say that would be Kurt Cobain. Wait, I just realized you said LIVING. Lol. Sorry, just caught my mistake as I was typing Kurt Cobain, and rather than delete my comment I simply finished and owned up to my 'blond' moment. But yeah when I think of Grunge I think Nirvana. You people are morons.. there are hundreds of dudes still alive out there that were forces in the grunge music scene. I live in Seattle grew up here. Singers, bassists, drummers, guitarists. Get real!
You know the old saying "Don't meet your heroes". Meaning you will always be disappointed. Well, I met Eddie a few years ago and I can say he was genuinely really nice. I could tell he really appreciated that I was a fan.
That's really awesome. Vedder always seemed like a cool dude. The only celebrity I have ever met was Eminem, and it was completely by mistake actually lol I live in Warren,Michigan and I used to hang out with this old man who used to live behind me,around the block from my house. He'd always tell me how his son knew Eminem and how they were good friends and went to school together. Honestly,I didn't believe him at first, until one day while I was over there at his house. A Black SUV pulls up and this guy walks out wearing a white hat, beige colored pants and a white/greyish nike windbreaker type of shirt on. He was also wearing glasses. And I am looking at him thinking,"this can't be who I think it is". So,he walks out of his SUV and he's like "hey Papa Ron,how you doing"? (Everyone used to call the old guy Papa Ron). He's like "what's there kiddo?" (Papa Ron called everybody "kiddo" lol) So,they chatted for a bit about different things, and Ron's like "This is my neighbor,he comes over here and keeps me company",and Eminem is like "What's up?" and I reply "hey how's it going?". And that's pretty much all we said to each other. I was never a fan of him or his music,so to me,the encounter wasn't a big deal. Especially since he is from around here where I live. But anyway. Nonetheless,it was still a shocker lol This happened about 12 years ago. You had to look really closely at him to tell he was Eminem, because it was almost as if he was trying to hide his identity or something. I always thought it was strange, that he was wearing glasses lol
Eddie seems so down to earth. One of those celebrities you wish you could hang out with. Like, pretend you didn’t know who he was and just chilled him. Have a few beers!!
True story. I grew up in San Diego and had an ad in the local Reader. I was a singer at the time and was looking for a bass player. Eddie actually called me (he was singing in a band called Bad Radio at the time and liked the influences I'd put down) I wasn't even home and he left a message and offered to help my band when I got it together. I called him that night when I got home and thanked him, really cool dude and then joined a band 'Mookie Blaylock' hope someday to say thanks in person!
Eddie: you’re gonna get tired of hearing my stories Me: (hoping the TH-cam gods add 30 more minutes to this video so I can hear Eddie tell more stories)
Whenever I see an interview with this man all I can think about is what it would be like sitting by a fire on the beach at night and talking philosophy until he's inspired to write something, then just sitting there quietly and watching his genius at work.
I like his pole. :/ He like has a club house up there. Prob his wife: we gotta dress up & go eat dinner w/ oba- Eddie: 🐩✋ I don't wanna. I'm too busy putting up glow & the dark stars. 😁
I met him one day in Cincinnati. We have a mutual friend in Bob Pollard of Guided By Voices. Eddie was very kind to me that day. I will always be grateful to him for that. He is one of my greatest musical influences. His setlists look a lot like Bob's. So cool.
@Ron Armitage Holy s---! You know Bob Pollard!? Awesome! I met Bob very briefly before a GBV show in Seattle at the Crocodile Cafe during the Do The Collapse tour back in 1999 (I think). He was very gracious with his time and I always appreciated him for that.
real chill guy from the looks at his interviews from early 90s to 2010s. from youth to icon, he seems grounded and humble. I hope he grows into old age making music.
As much as I love Pearl Jam and feel their induction was completely earned. I still think it’s a crime that Alice In Chains and Soundgarden have yet to even be inducted. Like they’re the big 4 of grunge and it’s so weird. Apologies for the off topic comment
He seems like a dude that became a mega rock star and actually appreciates everything that it's brought him. Was the first band I saw live, the first band I was super into and will always have my respect.
mr zed Oh, wow, it's Zed! You used to have a chopper, then Bruce killed you, took your chopper and went for his French girlfriend. She was asking several times "Who's motorcycle is this?", until Bruce finally said : "It's a chopper, baby." Then, girly went nuts with asking - "Who's chopper is this?" And then, Bruce finally said :"Zed's." That wasn't enough for her, so she kept asking "Who is Zed?". So Bruce finally said : "Zed's dead, baby, Zed's dead." And THEN, they both went away with *YOUR* chopper. If you don't remember that, your memory sucks.
Might seem weird to some but this is exactly how I would have pictured his house. He has his only little space to crawl into and write. Loved the part he dropped his notebook and stuff down before sliding down the pole. lol He seems like he's a fun person to be around
He's so down to earth. I've always liked Eddie Vedder. He seems like a really cool human being with a lot of personality and interests. When he sings "Black"...Whoa!❤️
Gosh Eddie has a beautiful voice just when he talks. I've lived 53 years and he is now my all time favorite singer and song writer. And I'm a child of the 60s and 70's
I just realized Cameron Crowe is interviewing him, Singles! Very cool, great soundtrack, ok movie, Eddie is a blessed soul, he was in the right place at the right time seeing Joe Strummer that night, amazing picture!
Eddie is at the top of my "look who's coming to dinner" list. Genuine, kind, humble, smart, soulful, artistic, laid-back, easy going, engaging.... and his voice.... that damn voice that can make the earth shake, the heavens rumble, and my heart skip a beat. Hail Hail!
There is an Italian restaurant named Cuccina Bella in Pittsburgh, a small place where Eddie Vedder stopped by one night, what is really interesting is that they have kept the chair where he sat, the bottle of wine he drank, the cigarretes he smoked, a song list, and some other paraphernalia untouched up to this day and also pictures to prove he was actually there. Really nice indeed!!!
I guess I will go ahead and say something like how these guys became such a vital aspect in saving my life! Yes I am the former waiter from Gibson’s Steakhouse Chicago who met Ed at the door while leaving. Now I am in Glencoe at a place called Valor! Great atmospheric feel. Anyway, I am 44 and did not expect to live this far. I lost a lot of loved ones and parents so PJ became a family I didn’t have. So much but I will keep it to this and really say thanks for all the moments memories past present future Gigaton shows at Wrigley once the COVID 19 can be managed. Besides my wife and children I have to say the music as well as what you stand for kept me going and still keeps fire in the engine room! See you later !!
The Godfather of Grunge. He now holds the torch. He's all we have left. But , oh what an awesome Man to still carry the light. GRUNGE IS NOT DEAD. It LIVES ON IN US.
Last Man standing of that era… Great interview, I truly enjoyed it. Interviewer was relaxed and asked intelligent questions and it was a fair exchange…
Got to see Pearl Jam when I was 15... back in the 90s. Me and my mates. Drunk on two beers hahaha!!! Saw Bruce Springsteen a couple years later. Edit: I've always believed in Eddie Vedder.
We will never lose Eddie. His music has spoken to my heart throughout my life, and many times over. I have many times reflected on the lyrics of many songs. I have laughed and rocked, and many times came to terms with my hurt and pain through his words, his beautiful and comforting tone has always been there leading me thru inconsolable grief. While I cried, Eddie so many times was the Angel who guided my heart back into sync with my head. His music taught me to focus up, and to process life on life's terms. Only because while I swam thru my river of heart break and tears, there was a message. And, only Eddie's voice could deliver the message in the lyrics wriitten. In a way, it helped me to breath thru the pain and focus on the fact that I could heal in spite of life's challenges and the unimaginable pain my heart many times endured. Thank you Eddie for holding my hand and walking me thru, such a life. You will always be a part of me. I will take all of what you give, what you've taught me of life, and your compassion to the grave. You are an exceptional person with a voice of an angel and unwavering understanding of the emotional rollercoaster, we as human beings must endure thru our development. You've taken notice of and towards the human experience. The lyrics you have forged and presented to us all, with such a passion to what is also happening around us all, in this world. Your attention and perception is not so clear to many others. It is a gift that many people do not posess. Thank you for sharing your gift, with not just myself, but the world. Thank you for your dedication to the music, and teaching us all to leave behind the negative and walk forward thru life's challenges taking only the positive with you. But, to embrace every smile, every tear, and every beautiful moment with gratitude and appreciation. Life is too short for resentments, regret, and the fear of death. Live and Love you always. You were the big brother I never had. Ty
Insightful...I personally love attending smaller venues for music creation. I miss 45's! My uncle used to give me the old proofs that were basically tossed aside. I guess that's part of my ability to absorb what's being shared. The beats...the soul within music..that is priceless.
I did a little research, and I think the previous/original owner of Eddie's house was a dentist. That must have been one fucking cool dentist. I'd voluntarily go to see that dentist every 6 months.
I love this guy Eddie. He,s a awesome guy.i wish that alot of those guys that passed away from drinking / drugs an so on would have just taken after you so they would still be here. Curt C an all the others that you were friends with... Your a very smart man an a incredible musician... Thanks for all of the great songs that you an Pearl Jam have giving us/me...Thanks KevMac
Eddie is better now than ever. I always thought he had a native american old soul. I think he is a prankster as well. Jill is a very lucky lady. I love to listen to him talk, he has a silky voice. Cannot wait to see him in concert in November this year.
eddie is my hero.... guy is out to prove how being genuine is the best life of all.... love this guy more than he knows... hope his spirits stay high even though all the recent shit... love you eddie!
Agreed. His actions and intents show no pretense whatsoever, he is so humble, so down to Earth. In my mind, he is the opposite of the flamboyant, showy, rockstar who's in it for the glory. He's by far the most honest musician.
I have a story about pearl jam too. When they came to Istanbul in 1996, one of them called me ( I can't remember who that was) said we are here the whole band for the concert and a friend of mine recommended you to me to buy rugs in Istanbul. Well, I was pleased to have someone calling me to buy rugs and willing to come down to my store. However, 'till then I had never been a rock fan and neither grunge music... didn't really pay attention to the fact that who came to my store and who bought the rugs. "Dammed" it has been nearly some 23 years and I still can't remember which one was that I met, spent time in my gallery and sold rugs.. Considering he wasn't a tall person, I barely remember who I met and sometimes think that, he must have been Eddie Vedder ( maybe). I think I will never find that out. Oh, by the way, in time I have been a great fan of Pearl Jam, still listening to their music till this day, actually now, this very moment too.... I believe "DEEP" is the best ever song for me. ( you can't sing such a difficult song unless you really feel that and get in to the depth of the lyrics meanings, BRAVO EDDIE, we love you bro)Note: years 1988/89/90 I was in Seattle and use to go clubs concerts for fun and been in places where they played.. and that was a friend of mine there who sent him to my store in Istanbul in 1996.. I don't know, after reading so many reviews, I thought, I should write this here.. By guys..
Ed has an innocent child-like vibe. Living in the moment . Like we all did as kids.
Love Eddie Vedder ALWAYS & FOREVER
first came reality tv to turn all of our moments into drama, then social media to really severe communication

@Your Mother ...where and how did Pearl Jam sell out?

If only you had a recording of that voicemail still 🤯
did he play in your band ?

C Thomas omg that would be a dream scenario
Eddie Vedder is the definition of a living legend
Eddie sitting in his bathroom on the toilet playing a song on the record player for him is just so wholesome lol
For some reason I would have never imagined his house to look like this, loved the insider.
Funny, it's exactly how I imagined it. Eccentric and tiny spaces that shut out the outside world.
(Yes, I'm replying to a 4 year old comment)
I like his pole. :/ He like has a club house up there. Prob his wife: we gotta dress up & go eat dinner w/ oba- Eddie: 🐩✋ I don't wanna. I'm too busy putting up glow & the dark stars. 😁

I love this guys brain, soul, style, music, AND his beautiful face . Super cool house too
I want that "Soundgarden" t-shirt he's wearing :-)
"it all comes down to that night.... terrifying"
By guys..
One of my all time favourite musicians also has one of the world's most awesome houses! WOW.
When you make enough money ... you become a philosopher
Or a painter..
I wish he felt like could play the strange stuff!! Go for it Eddie! :)
All I can say: thank you so much for all the great albums and awesome songs pearl jam has given us through time!
Wow!!! Such an amazing artist can only have a home like this!!! Such a genius
