We are DVC members at the Grand Floridian and all of the outer building rooms are almost done being refurbished. The new rooms are absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. The rooms in the Big Pine Key building are DVC Resort Studios. All of the other outer buildings are hotel rooms and they are currently refurbishing the last two buildings, they are scheduled to be completed by spring of 2023. The lobby and inside hotel rooms are also being refurbished this year as well. The Grand is a beautiful resort with many wonderful dining options, pools, shopping, spa and transportation options (monorail, bus, boat). I hope you and your lovely family give the Grand another try in one of the new rooms. Great series! Looking forward to all your reviews.
Thanks so much for sharing this!! I'm happy to hear that they are making the changes. I was told differently but am so happy that was wrong bc they really needed an upgrade!! lol We definitely will be sure to give it another try. There were things we did enjoy about the resort and will be doing a favorites video here too so people can compare. And honestly, I want to rent DVC points and compare that option to a regular hotel room bc I'm thinking I may love the DVC rooms better. Hoping to dive into all of the DVC options once we finish our regular hotel challenge. 🎉 Thanks so much for your kind words and following our journey. The bus rides alone to the animal kingdom and Hollywood Studios are at least 30 minutes on a good day and it’s not a dedicated bus for the Floridian the bus makes additional stops to other resorts for the Floridian resort price customers should get a separate bus only for the Floridian hands down!!
Yes, I agree! It would be nice to have a dedicated bus. I've been told that they are moving that direction but the times we stayed, it hadn't happened yet.
Thanks for pointing out the downsides. The rooms do look awfully dated and plain given the sky high prices! It’s a shame as, especially from a distance, the lake side location, proximity to magic kingdom and beautiful aesthetics have always made me wish I was staying there. Now I feel glad I saved some serious cash when choosing other options previously.
Yes, I felt the same way. It was on my bucket list for a long time and even though it wasn't a bad stay, it wasn't exactly what I was expecting for the price. I do like the look of the updated DVC rooms but we haven't had a chance to stay there and honestly unless we were going to MK daily, I just am still on the fence if it's worth that price tag. Especially since we are over halfway through our challenge. There are a lot of other resorts that I loved more that are less $$. Thanks for sharing and for your kind words!! It is a beautiful resort but I prefer both the wilderness lodge and the poly resort. Just much more theme to these places imo

Agree. Those are my family's 2 favorite resorts. My youngest and I always vote to stay Wilderness, but my oldest and my husband push for Oolynesian. Both are great and have the best themed decor in my opinion.

Yea! It's kinda frustrating, especially if you are splitting your time between all of the theme parks.
Thank you for your honesty I totally agree for the price a 45 minute bus ride does that not reflect the pricepoint in addition to the dated rooms again the pricepoint the only way it makes sense is if your entire stay is situated around the magic kingdom.
Thank you for your kind words!! And yes, I agree with you. There are things about this resort that we did love and we are going to make a "best of" video here soon. But honestly, unless Magic Kingdom (and maybe Epcot) are the only parks you are going to, then it's just not convenient! Thanks for the watching and sharing your thoughts!

I can't believe resorts on the monorail loop do not get their own bus to the parks. We stayed for the first time on the loop last month, and I couldn't believe the contemporary shares a bus with wilderness lodge....I was shocked! And slightly disappointed!
Same!! I was very surprised by this too. I understand why with the resorts being so much smaller but with the larger price tag, I just assumed the bus transportation would be more convenient and it really wasn't any different than staying at a moderate with multiple bus stops! 🤪 Thanks so much for checking out our video and sharing!! exactly does not reflect the high pricepoint and adds a significant amount of time to your travel time from one park to the next for sure
Exactly the average price of these luxury resorts are at least $700 it’s unacceptable that Disney chooses not to dedicate separate transportation
I have to add when I walked thru the Grand Floridian a velour couch in lobby was really worn out not that I really care but I was sort of shocked by that. Also the outdoor pool areas are not that appealing to me with a lot of sidewalk, cement and not a lot of greenery if that makes sense.
Yes, I know what you mean!! We liked the splash pad area for our toddler but the pools were "just fine" for us. We didn't feel that wow factor like we have gotten at other Disney resorts. And honestly, it's probably hard to keep everything pristine with that many people coming through daily. To get my videos without people in them, I had to get up super early and stay up way past my bed time 🤣 It's a very crowded resort!
Aren't they updating the rooms right now?
They did just do a full renovation of the DVC rooms and they are gorgeous. Construction is still ongoing at the Grand Floridian. You can see the construction on the outside of the buildings and they have announced changes to the lobby but right now the hotel room changes are still just a rumor (as far as I know). But I have all my fingers and toes crossed that they will also be changed because those DVC rooms really are a big improvement! Thanks so much for watching our video and connecting!! ✨
