A room like this definitely needs a secret entrance, like close off the area around it with walls then make the entrance a hinged bookcase, wine shelf or something along those lines. Great mockups by the way!
I am kind of sheepish that I didn't think of doing a secret entrance.... I think I have an idea thank you!! More to come :D
Yes I agree ! like a speakeasy kinda vibe 😊
I love hearing the history tidbits throughout the build.
ty!! I've held back a little bit because I thought folks would think it's boring... I'll start including more!
@@Schoolhousehomestead It's anything but boring!! It's the exact opposite of boring!! It's the fascinating history of how your home has come to be your home and all that it's lived before!! You could do an entire documentary of it's history and it would be incredible.
I love the mosaic floors. The wood floors look great as do all the doors, especially the pocket doors. I love pocket doors.
thank you! So glad we ended up doing pockets in a couple spots!
@@Schoolhousehomestead Love pocket doors!
You're almost at the home stretch! SO EXCITING!
That place looks so much different than it did when I started watching your channel.. Its looking amazing.. thx for bringing us along...
I am always excited when I get a notice of one of your updates. Love the evolution of the cocktail room. The flooring looks amazing. The tile work - very nice . The finished masonry and beautiful doors . . . etc. So gr8 to see every detail of your project transformation . . and how much you are invested in turning your dreams into reality.
Thank you so much!!
Love that you always make sure to shout out every business that’s helped out along the way ❤
Great progress! You have until the kids start to be teens to get those gates on the liquor room.
lol right!!
young teens -- don't wait until they turn 15!
😐
Congratulations on getting to the pretty parts🫡Wow🫠🩷
thank you!!
The cocktail area (teacher’s lounge), is incredibly cool, your foresight is truly stunning!!!
bahahahhaha "Teacher's Lounge" 🤣 Well I might have to put that on a sign now.
All that history you find out about the engine and its various functions always fascinates me. Those wood floors look beautiful even in an unfinished state. They will be gorgeous when finished!
Love the cocktail cellar. Thank you for selecting wooden floors that are similar to what would have been there. That bathroom is really looking up. The kids bathroom is also well on its way. It is exciting when you post.
Absolutely love all you guys are doing in this fabulous old building. You must be the Queen of Patience to refinish all those doors. Long time fan here of This Old House. Your videos are just as satisfying.
We renovated our own 1795 Federal style house in upstate NY when we were first married. Took us almost 20 years as we did 95% of the work ourselves and started a family while we lived in it. I still have one of our old refinished doors as the base to my art desk.
Thanks for sharing your progress along the way.
From rural Indiana and so enjoying this journey!
It's a good place to be.
I absolutely LOVE what you’re doing. I dream of someday buying an amazing old property and restoring it to its former grandeur. I love that you’re sourcing items from architectural salvage. I love that you’re stripping original pieces and refinishing them. I love it all and I’m living vicariously through you! Thank you for letting us all tag along on your adventure! 😍🤩
Love how you are transforming this old school to a home! gorgeous floors and those doors are beautiful. So exciting!!
Missed the last month or so of videos so I got to binge on them this evening. The school is turning into such a beautiful home -- love the exposed brick!!!! That was a great decision. And I also love the idea of the "mural" of plaster in your bathroom -- it looks like abstract art.
I really appreciate how you highlight and credit the work of so many skilled people (masons, tilers, painters, etc.). If we lived anywhere near you, I'd be writing down their names for future work (but we're in Maryland).
LOVE the cellar and the idea of doing a mosaic floor (and letting the kids help) -- it's GREAT! The floors also look so good! You are such an inspiration! For years, I've thought about buying an old school or post office, or some other institutional building and repurposing it as a house. There are just so many ways to be creative with really great (and funky) spaces. Your videos are par for the course. Thanks again for sharing your adventures with all of us!
Doing it as the mat style makes it where the kids can totally help & then the tile guy can install it in a professional manner. Because having kids help directly on the floor when there is mastic and grout is not condusive to long term use. But the way you did those others... they can totally do that with y'all.
I’m always looking forward to seeing your family’s updates it’s amazing and gives me so much hope for my own home one day God bless you and your family’s journey ‼️‼️‼️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️❤️
aw thank you!!
I was startled when I saw your light fixture. That is exactly the kind we had in our Sixth Grade building when we had the 1965 earthquake here in Washington. Our teacher was a bit of bird brain, and thought what we should do is have 32 students all in one doorway. I was the last person to leave the room and as I was leaving I saw all the light fixtures in the room crashing against the ceiling. It was something for a 11 year old guy to behold.
oh WOW!! Well hopefully this light doesn't come to the same fate- glad you all were okay and what a memory to trigger!
Love the mosaic tiles and wood doors, and shelves!!❤
Love the space where you’ll be mixing n experimenting with your cocktails. The design you want for it is awesome n that mosaic tile on the floor, oh be still my heart….it’s gorgeous.
Yep, it’s starting to look like someone will be living in this big space. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟
just spent the last idk how much time watching all of this progress on your channel. so cool to see it go from messy and complicated to finally being tiled and decorated. definitely looking forward to seeing it come together!!
This is so exciting! I’m sort of glad I hadn’t found you sooner because I have a terrible time being patient! I’ve binged everything thus far and will be waiting (impatiently, of course) for the next installment!
Lookin GOOD! I went to Center Grove School and back then the old high school still stood. It became the 'Middle Building." There are so many things in your home that were in that building. The engine room, the old brick, big thick doors, uneven concrete, and creaky old wood floors. Chunks of plaster would sometimes fall from the ceiling... brings back so many memories. Then they tore it down!
Anyway, I always enjoy seeing your updates, please keep'm coming!
oh wow!! I'll have to try to find pics of the old Center Grove school at the museum!
I am loving this series. This home is going to be gorgeous! I used to live in Noblesville, IN for many years. Love Indiana! You are putting a crazy amount of work and money into this, but I love the doors you redid, and the floors! Restoring the brick….WOW! The mosaic! I love what you have in mind for the little cellar. Love, love, love it all! Thank you for sharing!💕
I love this, gosh you, your husband and your family are amazing! I stopped drinking alcohol years ago, however I cook with everything not excluding wines, cognac's , burbon's, whiskey's, the flavors can be alarmingly amazing! An Air exchanger.....cool beans! Can not wait to see this huge gorgeous project when completed. I absolutely adore your creative ideas! Beautiful family, love love, love! The best to all of you! (THE REFINISHED DOORS ARE ROCKING IT, WOW!)
Love this family. All good.
I think what you all are doing is awesome! I grew up in a small South Georgia town with old schools. Only one remains and it is on a historical list. These old schools need to be saved and upscaled, so “Good on you” as the Aussie’s say.
I mean this very respectfully… your voice sounds very much like a DJ I listen to on K-Love radio. You and Lauree on that station sound very much alike. It makes your videos sound great and fun to watch!
Many Blessings,
Kurt of Canter Reed
The tile is the master shower is absolutely gorgeous!!! PS - I have that refrigerator and LOVE the craft ice.
I’m so excited when I see an update! Love what you are doing to make this your home!!!!❤
Thanks so much!! 😊
This series reminds me of when I was 11 or something and a random show that I get hooked to on HGTV plays and I have to watch it every day otherwise my day wouldn't be complete :D
You are so creative!
been following this project for awhile and it's really coming together. Those bathrooms are looking good! Is there a floor plan anywhere? I have a hard time visualizing how everything fits together when you do the walk throughs and would love to see even a really rough birds eye view of how the rooms connect.
I do have a floor plan video!
I have been watching since the start. This such an incredible change!!! Just amazing 😊
It's so exciting watching this all come together. I love your videos❤ It is going to be so beyond beautiful & I love how you're trying to keep as much of the history in the building as possible. The doors came out gorgeous & I'm loving the color of the tiles. The floors will be amazing & the cocktail area is interesting. Thanks so much for sharing this adventure & God bless.❤😊
You can do the mosaic just in sections. Love your first mosaics ❤ The floors look amazing 🎉Love the master bathroom green tile too.
I love the cocktail room! Many homes in my village have wine caves. I do love my local wines….but I am a cocktail girl! Cannot wait to see that light. My mum went to a one room school house for 8 years. When the closed the school, she went back and got her desk. It’s like the ones on Little House on the Prairie with the seat in front and the desk behind. I used it as my bedside table growing up. My dolls sat on the seat!
I had one of those too!! And my dolls also sat on the front! 😂
Exciting updates, especially the new floors. I like the tiles in both bathrooms, great colors.
Flooring!!!!! Congratulations!! Love, love, LOVE the refinished doors!!!
thank you!! that seriously means a lot, spent a ridiculous amount of time on those doors haha
I am in love with all the mosaic tile!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
The progress so far is amazing!
So excited to see these updates! When it's all done you should host some sort of party as a fundraiser for your restoration efforts, I know I would pay to attend a party at this gorgeous place! 😍
Love the tile! The kids bathroom definitely gives chalkboard vibes.
I love the dark green tile. Floors look amazzzzing. Everything looks fantastic 🎉😊
Thanks so much! 😊
If you ever go on a cruise - Carnival cruise ships have a cocktail bar called The Alchamey. The drinks are so yummy! and all made with homemade elixirs and syrups. the menu lit up like a medicine cabinet! the drink names fit the vibe. The drink masters wore white jackets like they were doctors mixing up our concoction to cure all of our ales. Neat bar with an apothecary vibe & decor. was really fun! … i remember a large old framed poster of the periodic table of elements as wall decor.
Loving how it's coming along. We actually have that fridge, but not with the clear door panel. The ice spheres are awesome.
We ordered without the clear door too! No one needs to see inside our fridge that well lol
Been following you for awhile and I get so excited about your latest updates. Totally looking forward to seeing the finished look. Great job 👏 ❤
This is so exciting! All the hard work is really paying off 🙌
I love all you updates, so exciting to see transformation.
It looks amazing! Thanks for the update. :)
That room should be your very own a speakeasy bar!!! It would be so perfect. Have a secret entrance and everything
It kind of does have a secret entrance, you'll just have to crawl through a 2 foot hole to get in lol
@@Schoolhousehomestead worth it 😆
Ooh I'm so excited it really is coming along!!❤
Amazing!!!! I look forward to each post and can't wait to see it all completed! You will have an INCREDIBLE home!

This is such a vibe!! I love everything!!
So cool to see how it's all starting to come together. Everything looks amazing. I love the mosaic floor idea for the cellar too. It will kind of bring it all together.
I Adore your entrance mosaics!! and the future one for the speakeasy is Gorgeous!!! What a Fabulous vision. Your original doors are Beautiful and the stain makes the floors glow!!! So much progress.
It just keeps getting better and better!

LOVE this entire story.
Love the brick, floors and the room looks good. Can't wait to see the house In the end
There seems to be a massive amount of work to be done. However, every piece that is completed, warrants a celebration. I know that feeling and it’s wonderful. Carol from California
You have such a vision for your home and you are incredibly talented.
I am really enjoying your channel. Such a unique building and update!!!
There are several salvage businesses in western Ohio that have websites. Toledo salvage, Columbus has many salvage businesses. I know I have seen old school house stuff. They do ship also. Dayton has some salvage places as well as Cincinnati. Check around you may get lucky.
The brick walls and the flooring is beyond incredible. A speakeasy door would so cool for the cocktail room
I love watching your videos! I hope…hope…Hope you have an open house when you are finished!
Amazing that this was all preserved.
7:58 This is certainly coming together nicely.
