Thanks! I know Eureka would love to encode as region free if they were allowed to but sadly the major studios cracked down on UK labels making region free titles.

it would be a good idea to invest in a region-free, code-free player, you can get a used model for a lot less than a new one

Gotta love that Eureka free shipping!Unfortunately I'd already gotten some of these titles from Flicker Alley and Scream Factory before I went region free a year or two ago.
But I did recently pick up the Universal Terrors set, the new Hunchback and The Most Dangerous Game (normally I don't give a crap about slipcovers but these are indeed awesome). Orlac I already had. Additionally I did get the MOC Vampyr just for the Guillermo Del Toro commentary, even though I find the film itself a bit of a slog, to be honest...

These Eureka releases are excellent. I've never paid much attention to the audio on classic film releases, but the restored soundtrack on The Most Dangerous Game made me pause the film. I couldn't really put my finger on what exactly was wrong, but it sounded way too clean and modern and not at all like a movie from the 30's. The pitch of the actors' voices was also different from what I am used to hearing from watching King Kong countless times. So I switched to the unrestored audio option and instantly felt immersed in the film again.

I’m glad you said that. I found that a problem as well and will be going over it in my review. Essentially I think the German restoration team who made this master went crazy with noise reduction. Everything but dialogue and sound effects/music is almost entirely scrubbed away leaving this very weird effect.
The unrestored option while not perfect and having some dropouts is the FAR better option.

Re-watching your old Eureka vids because im now officially all region capable, woohoo! I wonder if Eureka will eventually release the Val Lewton horror titles that shout factory first did?

It would be beautiful if someone could take another stab at them. They’re under Warner and the Archive started doing the rest but I dream of a deluxe Lewton box with all the films and the non-horrors.
Plus some of the Shout discs have some issues particularly in audio-The Leopard Man most because it has hum throughout. (Which was on the LD but not the DVD.)

I have the Criterion DVD of "The Most Dangerous Game" and am interested to compare the two releases. It's been many years since I watched the Criterion; I remember it looking pretty rough in places.

Visually this is a major improvement but audio wise the restored audio is way too overcleaned so you have to listen to the unrestored audio which is similar to the Criterion.
The Bruce Eder commentary on the Criterion is excellent. That combined with the new extras here means I think it’s good to have both.
