The best band in history, the wonderful GIBB BROTHERS, I have most of their 350 plus songs and each time I listen to them never get to understand how in the world they were such brilliant composers and performers, their early songs 1966 up to 1975 were their best, this one BUTTERFLY is a real pretty one
People will know Bee Gees with "How Deep is your Love", "Staying Alive", "Night Fever", "Too Much Heaven". But i will always know this legendary group with this song
My preference of their music was pre 70,s...... and always will be.... Robins final work The Titanic Requiem is outstanding and not so well known.... He recorded it nearing the end of his life...
Such an amazing song that fits perfectly with the documentary.. These four beautifull souls.. Yep Andy included.. Creating all those heavenly harmonies.. We were certainly blessed to have the gift of the beegees amongst us.. I wish this gift on all the generations to come❤️
Right before my daddy died in September. He made me play this song for him over and over and over. Now, if I could just stop crying every time I hear this. I love you daddy and miss you so much 💔
Absolutely beautiful don’t upstanding why this song wasn’t popular back in the day. Just shows you that they were way ahead of their time. So talented ❤
love this song it brings back so many memories of my husband John and i when we first got together when we were 15 i am now 80 and i miss my John he passed in 2018 xxx💔💔💔💔
To say I love this song is an understatement . . . butterfly has been my nickname since a youngster......other that I love equally FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS
This song is so beautiful. it takes us to the guts. it tells the story of the childhood of each of us through its nostalgic lyrics and melody. Only Robin Maurice and Barry can sing it with so much emotion❤🎸🎶🍾🎉🥂👍 Tôn Nữ 👸Tuong Vy
This one has a little Beatles flavor aswell. The Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings collab brought me here. This is nice and a bit nostalgic, just like a like it
I hear the Beatles in fluency a lot particularly in the last harmony section at the end of the song where they leave those minor notes unresolved and then the instruments resolve them. You can hear that on some Beatles songs as well. I apologize if I am not describing that correctly as I am not musically trained.
Guess what . . . . Butterfly is being sung on Barry's new CD called Greenfields. It's his latest collaboration with country artists. I preordered the music , can't wait to hear this version of Butterfly
Even though I am a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE Bee Gees fan (I am 70), I didn’t know this song existed until I bought the “Greenfields” CD so graciously and painstakingly produced by Mr. Barry Gibb. “Butterfly” is AWESOME on that CD. Knowing now that Barry, Maurice and Robin ALL wrote that song together brings tears, knowing the love they had writing and fighting (🤪) over the lyrics as loving brothers do. I hope Barry can pull together a Greenfields Part 2 album, but I’m hoping he’ll listen to Mrs. Linda and “retire”. BTW Mr. Gibb, you, Maurice and Robin defied my surgeon’s gloom/doom prognosis of a “drop foot” after a broken femur at age 64 (stop the Beatles music now🙃). Anyway, after looking at my stupid left foot that wouldn’t move for 3 weeks and BLASTING all of your music I could find on my iPad AT THE NURSING HOME, voila…your music DEFIED that smartass orthopedic surgeon’s prognosis. I’m tapping that “drop foot” LOUD AND CLEAR! So, thank you Mr. Gibb and your sweet brothers for oh, so many memories and WONDERFUL SONGS‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
One of best early songs which closes their Documentary 2020. Sad there are few people don't know how to appreciate the song due their ego and temporal weakness. The Bee Gees were and are timeless and recorded with no technology to eternity.
I totally agree Carlos. Loved the version at the end of the Documentary- How can you mend a broken heart. A gem everyone who loves the Bee Gees should watch. I also was always playing the Bee Gees when I was dating my wife in 1970 . The old 8-track
I absolutely adore them, they're up there with The Beatles for me. But I don't agree much with the rest of your comment, it's very off-putting to me in fact; people have different tastes, it doesn't mean that just because they aren't fond of a band or a song that it has a lick to do with their egos (if anything the person with a < deficient ego here reads to me to be you), and what you mean by temporal weakness is just plain confusing and I think an attempt at sounding erudite just fell flat because WTF do you even mean by temporal weakness? And they had plenty of technology in the '70, stomp boxes, more effects that you could imagine... it wasn't like the Bee Gees had to keep down-mixing to a 4 track, lol. Again, I love them, but I know plenty of people that loathe the Bee Gees (Saturday Night Fever-OD I think with most, which is so sad because they were so incredibly versatile. But I don't feel the need to nakedly insult them just because they don't love a band that I do. ¿Entender? There is never a reason to insult needlessly, that is a poor way to show love I think.
Sounds a perfect song for a collaboration with Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings.........on BG's forthcoming album 'Greenfields'. Look forward to hearing it!
Ho sentito questa canzone da pochi mesi, purtroppo. È davvero bellissima. Amo i Bee Gees dal profondo del cuore. Thank you for shering this amazing song. 💜
Green fields where we used to wander Purple valleys, near my home We would play there, beneath the sky And then I kissed you, butterfly Young girl, you came restless And you left me here to cry My big teardrops, in red pastures For I loved you, butterfly Butterfly, yeah I dream about you, lonely without you, butterfly Butterfly, yeah Each night I'm sleeping, your face goes creeping, butterfly Green fields where we used to wander Purple valleys, near my home We would play there beneath the sky And I kissed you, butterfly Butterfly, yeah I dream about you, lonely without you, butterfly Butterfly, yeah Each night I'm sleeping, your face goes creeping, butterfly
Beautiful song I need to find the Album from way back Spicks and Specks I believe. I already have the Greenfields Album by Barry Gibb and friends ❤ love that as well
Thank you for posting this. There is no way to buy this song anywhere to listen to.. The new version with Gibb, Welch and Rawlings is good, but prefer this version with the Gibb brothers.
I'm glad I watched the documentary it means so much 2 me I no how deeply my husband loved me makes me sad I will listen out 4 the new album I thought I new all the bee gee songs 🎵 😢 💔 😔 😞 😪 🎵 wonder why this wasn't a number 1 hit ??? Or was it ??? Was it recorded or released ??? If so when ???could someone please tell me ???

I just heard this song at the end of their recent documentary. This song is so beautiful and had me in tears at the end of the movie.
Yep......💯
Me too! It’s beautiful!
Me too.
Same here, just saw their documentary ..... The quality and breadth of The Bee Gees music is unparalleled.
Same here! Learning the harmonies now so that I can sing it with my siblings when I can cross the ocean again and see them all...
The greatest artists in music!
There will never be the likes of The Bee Gees again…🇳🇿
I’ve always loved this song. Ever since I was little. Glad it’s getting some recognition. The Bee Gees are the best. Nobody could touch them.
👌❤
Agree with you 😊 ❤️ I
At the end, I could hear Robin's vibrato voice. I love it!!!
And Robin‘s deep voice, it is beautiful ❣️

Beautiful harmony and beautiful song with previous young Bee Gees picture
their harmonizing in the chorus just blows me away. has hooked me and have to hear it every day.
Right before my daddy died in September. He made me play this song for him over and over and over. Now, if I could just stop crying every time I hear this. I love you daddy and miss you so much 💔

Have always adored this one. Glad it is getting heard again both on the new documentary and the new version on Greenfields.
Have loved this song for very long time and can still listen to it over and over again ❣

Similarly it was the Welch Rawlings collab that brought me here also....
The essence of a young sweet love song
Magnificent

POR FAVOR QUE ALGUIEN SUBA EL VÍDEO DE ESTA HERMOSA CANCIÓN PERO CON SUBTÍTULOS EN CASTELLANO!!! MUCHAS GRACIAS!!! Mariposa
Campos verdes donde solíamos pasear
Valles púrpura, cerca de mi casa
Nos gustaría jugar allí, bajo el cielo
Y entonces me besaste, mariposa
Which of their albums was this song on or was it not released?
It was never released as a single but it was on one of their first albums produced and released when they were teenagers in Australia
Which documentary?
Disagree about chorus, that's really makes song for me.Maybr because I'm a woman.
It is because you understand true beauty. I love the chorus, it brings it all together
I agree with you Shari
Great vocals and verses but not a great chorus
