  • One thing I always hated about my PC recordings was the inability to use Retro hardware, so that changes with this video. Come join me as i rediscover Windows 98 and create a build that suffices that need.
    This is also a 10,000 subscriber special, and thank you to all of you who ahve watched, liked or viewed anything on my channel. I cannot appreciate that enough, and I hope this shows my love somehow to you. Thank you all and here's to 10K more and beyond!

    fun build! Interesting components, good solutions for the low profile, or about as best as you really could i guess. There were low profile Soudblaster Audigy cards, but I dont know what the backing plate issue would be like

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't mind looking for a low profile audigy but I have no idea how that would be in the end. It does sound extremely crisp though, so I might just keep it like this

    The Biostar motherboard you went with is a great board. It can handle CPU’s up to 3.06 and it will work with agp video cards that take 3.3v. As in 3dfx Voodoo cards. I’ve got 1 revision 5.x board and 2 revision 7.x boards. I’m using a Voodoo 3 3000 in one with a 2.8ghz cpu and Monster MX 300 sound card. Mismatched for sure but works great.

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow I had jo idea the board can take thay much, but its good to know if I ever wanna slap a voodoo, but then again for the GPU it's perfect for 98 titles but okay for XP. Which...is kinda what I need!
      Wouldn't mind a voodoo but lord it's so much 😭😭

    Looks awesome, especially with that CRT monitor. My grandpa gave me his old pc with a pentium 4 (I think) but it couldn't turn on so I just left it in the storage collecting dust lol.

    Super rad retro build! I have an older office pc coming in and my homie is letting me use his gtx 1050 ti, so I’ll finally have a more dedicated windows 10 build 👍

    That was a really fun episode! Now you can compare Starcraft PC with the Starcraft PC Remaster and the Starcraft N64 Console version. lol I love Starcraft by the way.

      @Kelphelp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unironically I really...really wanna do this very badly, I just don't have Starcraft 64 to even compare it with which is the only thing. I would love to though

      @@Kelphelp If you have an Everdrive that would play it. I have the actually Starcraft cartridge and it's pretty expensive. It's been messed up in Emulation for years so you won't be able to use that method just to warn you ahead of time.

      @@Kelphelp I know exactly what it's like putting together old PC's to play on the correct hardware. So when I saw you struggling in this video I was frustrated too because it's basically an internal Hell that we go through. My Windows 98 SE Edition gave me all sorts of trouble. This was enjoyable man. Not you suffering but the fact that I'm not the only person who goes through this struggle is very refreshing. Thanks for all your hard work brother!

    Awesome build.
    I'm must a Home and Handheld Gamer but Computer games is one thing I'm more and more enthusiastic by.
    I don't think I going to build a Vintage configuration but I thinking to buy a VGA CRT monitor. That with a HDMI to VGA and some Old PC game buy on GOG can be a great way to have a "Old School" PC feeling 😁.
    And with a VGA CRT Monitor, I can use it with my Dreamcast, and thats is great 😁😁🥰

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buying older monitors if possible is still worth doing, and if its viable in your area def recommend it as long as it doesn't break the bank.

    Nice vid. I was wondering if you’d ever be interested in doing port vs port videos on Garou: Mark of the Wolves or Capcom vs SNK 2? Both those games have a ton of ports and it’s hard to figure out which one is best.

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably say no on both of those. Not really interested in fighting games and I'm not knowledgeable in them either so I can't do em justice even if I did like them

    Nice video, and need to say, that a nice case!!! BUT I need to react, as a part of retro PC community, dos isn't a pure dos if its run from windows command prompt, Tie Fighter and "dos nature", c'mon, that hurts, thats why u have a BOOT DISK with Tie Fighter, to boot directly from that diskette in to the pure dos, what u didnt even try (himem, emm, conventional memory etc, google dos memory management)... but then u will not have any sound of course, because ISA sound card is a way to go in dos (mostly, thanks to philscomputerlabs and other people, who made that possible, some games works with pci cards even with live! sound card, not sure about audigy cards... dos games, with support of general midi, thats working in windows is a way to enjoy soundfonts, in pure dos, if u manage to find a install correct drivers, you will wave opl sound, terribly emulated with that card... and yeap, as u say doom works on everything today, even on printers and calculators :D... its pure windows machine, with support dos games which, runs from dos prompt... so u cant call it 4 generations setup, just windows setup, sorry man for my flustration, but please dont understand it like harassment, except your "fight" with dos games, i liked this video so much, so GO ON!!!

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2nd PC on the side that does have Pure DOS on it but then again I am looking for Roland Soundfonts so I really don't care if I go via pure DOS. The audio is important and the sound snd if I can get to a cheaper way to get that I will. That's why I have things set up the way I do.
      These both now have SD card adapters so they have every OS I need to test games, so it works for my needs. And that's the most important part, how it works for my needs.

    • @dim0n1
      @dim0n1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kelphelp it does have sence only for newer dos games then, many of them even doesn't have a Roland support anymore, just general midi, and of course you can make them play, like a Ronald, but forget about old ones, in this case, maybe I can recommend to buy some kind midi daughter board and add it to sound card, s2, x2 etc... And about that memory overflow, I forgot to add it, you have to much fast pc, so maybe turning off L1 and L2 will help you, but again, only from pure dos, not sure, if it even turns on in windows at all...

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A daughter board is more likely to be used with something like my Audigy so I can do that.
      As for the speed I don't really care on the Win98 machine since my other is a speed sensitive machine at P2 133Mhz and ram is greay too so I am covered! The two machines I have cover all of the games I want to play.
      Maybe I'll make an update since this video is pretty outdated to what I have now

    • @dim0n1
      @dim0n1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kelphelp I'll be one of those, who will really like to that :). And about daughter boards, they work nicely with ess sound cards and even Yamaha made interesting ones too, but there you loose eax thinks etc... So 2 machines is ideal :)... I have also p200 with ISA ess sound card, S3 graphics, and p4 with radeon 9550 and audigy 2, so agree with you
