ILMEA Cycle 3 Euphonium Etude 1 - Theme from Arban Solo #3, “Fantasie Brilliante”

A quick demo of ILMEA Cycle 3 Etude 1 for Euphonium (the theme from Arban solo #3, the “Fantasie Brilliante”). In retrospect, I probably recorded this a little on the slow side (more Adagio than the Andantino marked in the Alessi/Bowman edition of Arban) but I think it makes sense to exaggerate the lyrical nature of this attitude to contrast with etude 2, the technical etude.  I also think some of the phrasing in the very old addition of Arban that ILMEA uses doesn’t really make musical sense, so I disregarded it and moved breaths so that the pickups to m. 3 sound like pickups, echoing the way the excerpt begins. Phrase this way at your own risk; I don’t know whether ILMEA adjudicators would subtract points even though I think it sounds better.
