I skate there in '76 or so a few times and then the ASPO contest in the pools they built in '80 or so. After they closed we used to stop by and sneak in and skate in '83. It was partially mangled, but the shallow pool and part of the snake run was still intact. It was paradise, with rarely anyone else around. Skating was wildly uncool in '83...
I remember eagerly awaiting this original airing as 'Skateboarders' was prominently highlighted in the TV Guide listing. Much like when Peralta was listed as a guest star on Charlies Angels, me and my fellow skate rats crowded around network TV for a few minutes of relevance. Usually only to be disappointed, but every time after these shows we would be out on the pavement so maybe only the acting was bad!
AH the old stomping grounds; the ramp was great at allowing one to conquer ones fear... especially during the slalom competitions SKETCHY!!! I also remember the 'marathons' they did a few times... skating all day and night, getting hosed down during the socal summer and sneaking out to winchell's about 2am...well winchell's and other extra cirriculars (cough, cough) me and a friend managed to endure and place in the top 20... free wheels and some cool goodies... nice to see this old park again.
@@JENDALL714 And he was in an episode previous to this where he was looking for his pet boa constrictor and Ponch found it in a car that he was trying to move and the boa started to wrap itself around Ponch's leg.😄
Just remembered sorry skateboarder,I use to steal the coupons in the back of the magazines you get free sesh to all the parks in so cal at the time.lol i feel better.,😇
No body is naming the place in the comments or in the description so I'm gonna ask outright. I this Del Mar Skate Ranch? (90's kid skater here, Del Mar was destroyed by the time i was old enough to skate)
Masu: It's named in the clip, in the description, and it's displayed on one of the turns visible at 1:19 of the video. It's the world famous, Skatercross in Reseda...one the earliest and very iconic skateparks. It was built on the site of an old A&W Drive-In restaurant and the runs even incorporated parts of the drive in awnings. It was Skateboard heaven in the 1970s....but also, sadly, long gone before you were old enough to skate. Thanks for your comments, I'll see if I can edit the info so that the location is more apparent.
When skating was fun and not taken over by the Ghetto crowd. There is a skate park where I live, but regular kids can't even use it, because Ghetto kids use it for their own nefarious purposes.
Used to skate there when pre-teen and early teen. Bought my 1st decent deck at their skateshop. Thanks for posting!!!
This was my favorite episode of this show... hilarious!
One of my favorite episode.
😊🤗🤗🤗My favorite episode too when i was a child. I can't believe children can drove a big wagon just for going on the beach for surfing.
There was a cheesy innocence back then that doesn't exist now. I miss that.
YEAH! Tony Alva ruined everything about skateboarding...
