Full Review: NEW Ruger Security 380 Lite Rack

  • Looking for a light slide, easy to rack and a center fire cartridge? Check out the brand new for 2023 Ruger Security 380 Lite Rack. It is sort of a micro 9 but in a 380 ACP chambering. It comes with a 10 rd and a 15 round magazine, fiber optic front sight and is also quite affordable. The downside for some will be the size, it is a bit larger than a Kahr P380 or Ruger LCP. But becuase it is a bit larger than those, it is easier to grasp if you have any weakness in your hands or wrists due to arthritis, nerve damage or many other reasons.

    More than likely, the thumb safety was engineered that way, to keep the safety from being inadvertently engaged when you didn’t intend to engage it.

    I’m a fan of .380 and I’m happy to see all these new ones coming out instead of just 9mms… not that there’s anything wrong with 9mm , I actually have more 9mm’s than any other handgun caliber, but I like to see more .380 and more variety in 40S&W would be nice too instead of just 9mm. Good video btw… I always enjoy them.

    Not everyone can effectively handle a micro-9 so I'm extremely happy to see more of the slightly larger compact 380 pistols joining the CCW market. I even bought a Sig P365-380 when it first came out and I like it so much that it's my go-to EDC...except on really cold winder days when I carry a 9mm HK VP9S 'cause I feel I still need that extra "umph" to get good penetration through heavy coats and such. All that said, I'm thrilled Ruger made this gun!

    I bought one of these for my wife and never could get her to shoot it. We have a visiting nurse that rents from us and is 25 and has never owned or shot a gun before. She asked me to take her to a range and show her how to safely use a gun. She shot several of my pistols. LCPII 380, P365 9MM, Kimber 1911 45, Taurus G3C 9mm, Glock 19X 9MM and finally the Security 380. She shot all of them surprisingly well, helped she took archery in high school, but she zeroed in on that Security 380 and was killing it. We couldn't find her one locally in stock so she talked me into seller her this one. I included some Underwood Defender ammo and she is good to go.

    Nice shooting with that little guy in the intro! I'm surprised .380 seems to be making such a comeback, I thought the high-cap micro 9 era would make that round even less relevant.
    That said I guess, even with the Shield EZ/Eq out there, there aren't really "easy-rack", "micro" pistols out there since those S&Ws are slim but bigger. And if you're looking for a light slide, I guess you'd probably prefer .380's lower recoil in such a tiny gun as well.

    Ruger knocked it out of the park with the Lite rack Security 380. Designed for hand strength/dexterity compromised shooters, petite or elderly ,carpel tunnel folks, arthritis ,etc,. I read about one Guntuber who said his store had sold one to a guy with 2fingers! The newer 380 15+1 market which seemed to be dominated earlier by Bersa Thunder plus is finally really gotten competition now. S&W has their improved slightly larger, lite rack, 9mm "Equalizer" as well, but it has the dam grip safety, which is a huge miss for people with hand problems/strength issues IMHO. The Rugers slightly larger size frame and longer 3.42" barrel over the LCP, are sorely needed for accuracy, and for 100FPS more speed, over the 2.8" barreled Ruger LCP's for example. LCP's are so tiny, short and small that most average shooters need to train often, to shoot them well. Lets face it, many CCW holders don't train often. Some do, but many do not. This could be a huge life safer for these folks. The smartly designed safety is a huge win on this Ruger as in Easy Off / Harder to put on. All safeties should be that way IMHO. I bet they sell trainloads of these.

    I love Ruger, and this gun looks sharp. I think this one might be good for my wife. The only con of this pistol is that the pin needs to be removed in order to take it apart for cleaning or servicing. In 2023, you'd think all semiautomatic pistols would have a take down lever instead of the pin because it's much easier to deal with and doesn't have to worry about losing it.

    .380. Most reviews I've seen bar one, the op is able to shoot it well. And in the exception to that rule, his wife shot it well and chose it over the others. I like what I've seen.

    Ruger seems to be moving hard into the really low-priced market for pistols. The quality is below traditional Ruger standards but you're not paying for it either, so it's fair. If you want something a bit more tight and right, you have to move up the food chain. Still, while my LCP MAX falls into the cheap but functional category, I do carry it as a pocket option. This security 380 looks like a branch off the same tree, functional but cheap.

      @HammerStriker  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it does not. To fire, the cycling partially cocks it in order to get the nicer trigger.

      Nothing wrong with aluminum rails my sig p229 in 9mm one of 6 sigs i own from the 1990s lower frame is aluminum alloy with over 14 thousand rounds on it and is now on it's 4th or 5th recoil factory spring with an average velocity 9mm at 1190fps . I just got this sec 380 this past Monday and absolutely love it. Please note the take down pin is very easy to misplace if not reinstalled into the frame right away as i found out ruger is sending me an replacement even after I finally found the original one. I'm loading 125gn 380 acp at 800 fps for it and it's hell on wheels now because it's not a direct blowback but a breached delay recoil design. My 380 125 loads will penetrate 3 inches of wood. Yes right thur a 2x4.

      @@TADDs101 Bersa's Thunder and Thunder Plus 380's have had aluminum frames /slides, and been in constant production since 1995 as well. You gotta remember that slide isn't really moving that fast, Just keep em lubed and she will probably outlast most folks easily. If your shooting competition and thousand and thousands of rounds per year , Then you may want steel frames/slides. Alum slides would only last those guys a few to several years instead of a lifetime.

    why do they call it Security-380 Lite Rack?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  ปีที่แล้ว

      The "Lite Rack" is due to it being designed in such a way that the slide is very easy to pull back, helps for those with weaker hands/grip.

    Love this fun. Wished I saw this before buying a different one.
    For those uneducated on that lever in the trigger, it IS NOT a fun safety. It is a DROP SAFETY. So
    All the other drop safety features everyone is adding with the piston in the slide and all, and not needed. So, when you buy any gun that does not have a manual safety, it has NO SAFETY when that gun is in your hand. Nobody is ever going to pull the trigger with their fingernail. Which is the only way to avoid that trigger lever, so again, it is not safe unless you have a manual safety.

      Hey so you haven't heard of trigger safety or striker block huh...both of those things prevent a gun that's dropped from firing

    biggest POS I've ever bought. About 80% of the time the pistol won't go into battery and the cartridge is stuck halfway into battery.
    Yes it's both mags, yes I've tried different ammo, yes it's been cleaned and lubed, and, because there's always one, NO I'm not limp wristing. I fired it from a brace just to prove it to myself.
    Going back to Ruger but I'll be selling it once it's back. I've lost all faith in ruger after this. I'm not sure they even have QC at this point.

      Seems like you should’ve gotten the warranty as faulty machining happens but of the multiple people that have this and posted reviews have 0 problems so again unless it operator error in some sort or it had a fault in the machining which does happen things like that happen in all Industries so I mean seems like you should’ve gotten the warranty. It’s only like 30-40 bucks extra and as long as you are the owner it’s a lifetime warranty. You seem like the kind of guy to buy something and when they ask you if you want the warranty you say no as if mistakes and faults don’t happen🤦‍♂️🤣

    • @AbyssProphet

      And yes I do own it and no I have not had the same problems so again getting the warranty for that few extra bucks is so worth it sorry you had a bad experience but to me it seems you should’ve did your due diligence as a gun owner who seems to know at least a little bit about guns and what they are talking about
