  • A pretty massive unboxing here thanks to Leisure Games and my lack of impulse control! I spent some time in this video showing off the Jindarian and Omega modules, but there's much more to say about these, so look out for more videos on modules in the future.
As an aside -- the Omega modules are really interesting, but I'd hesitate to recommend them to new players. They really benefit from players having a strong working knowledge of the core SFB rules, given that the Omega modules themselves add several hundred pages of new rules to the already massive SFB rulebook. The cool variations in tactics that Omega empires bring to the table are also much easier to grasp and appreciate if you already have a strong understanding of the Alpha Octant SFB empires.
Having said that, Omega allows the SFB system to shine in very interesting ways, so I'm keen to cover the modules available so far and enthuse about them in future videos. Just bear in mind that if you're a beginner, adding Omega to the mix might be a bit overwhelming. In addition, the Omega empires don't have enough ships to field campaign-capable fleets, and it's unlikely those gaps will be filled any time in the near future, so if you prefer campaign play you may want to take that into consideration.

Love your SFB/FC videos. They’re fantastic and always help me make my next purchase. Please keep it up.

Awesome sauce! New video. How many races or empires/ factions are there now? Is there a place to see that? I only have the basic set and the intro book, so I’m kinda short on knowledge about the game. Love it though and love watching your vids. Thanks a lot

A non-exhaustive list (doesn't include Omega sector and maybe more): i.imgur.com/zPmWtdG.jpg

If you poke around the rather antiquated Starfleet Games website, you can read about the different modules for the Alpha, Omega, and LMC settings. All told there are a *lot* of factions in total. The main question is whether you want more canon-ish Trek, or you don't mind getting weird with it :) The Alpha Octant has the more Trekky stuff, Omega and LMC get weird (but also very fun to play).

I hope one day you do decide to make a video about the fan created version of the Jindarians. I have been looking for it, but either my google skills suck or google doesn't think it exists somewhere out there.

I will do, someday! Just have a lot of videos in the editing queue right now and too little time, sadly. In the meantime, you can find them here: www.aaargh.org/SFB/1000Tribes/1000Tribes.htm

I can only wonder how someone can keep coming up with so much stuff for a game! ASL can go hide in shame...

Love this game but finding anyone to play has proven nearly impossible. How have you found anyone to play with? Drives me nuts that it just sits on the shelf collecting dust…

Indeed, it's not easy to find new players these days! Honestly the only way I've managed to do it is finding some local Trek fans and browbeating them into trying it :) Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's always worth a go!
Starting with Federation Commander can help too. Otherwise SFB Online may be the way to go, though it does have an associated membership cost.
