  • Pumping is the difference between being an okay rider and a really good rider. The more speed you can gain by pumping compressions and rollers on the trail the better. Neil shows you how 🤘

    Ground goes up, pull the bike up; ground goes down, push the bike down. Knees bent, stay loose, don’t try too hard.

    So key!! I'm finding pumping through berms quite a tricky skill to develop, but I'm getting there 😜

    Pumping does make riding feel so much more fun . Playing around and hoping over things. In berms I find it very difficult to judge the timing ⏱ but I guess more practice will really help get better at it. Great inside and video as always .

    Great video! I've practiced pumping so much that I end up pumping over features I should be jumping.
    Still don't know what to do with my weight when I jump and fearful of bucking, even with dropper down.

    Lot of times it's faster to pump then to pedal.

      Start with small jumps with good landing areas and table tops (don't do gaps to start with!). As you do them over and over you will feel more confident and find the speed that is best to get safe air
      For drop offs start with ones you can roll if needed, then work up. Remember to let the bike fall away from you a bit

    • @dave_xc
      @dave_xc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattimeo117 thanks for the advice but my bike makes it more difficult because I have a cross country bike without dropper post and I'm used to ride on tarmac 70%of my riding time so I have an high saddle height. That's also why I can't do manuals

    • @mattimeo117
      @mattimeo117 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dave_xc if you have a quick release for your seat post, then definitely adjust your saddle height down before doing any downhill stuff. It takes 20 seconds. I learned to do small jumps and drop offs on my v budget decathlon XC bike last year. It was the bike that got me into the sport (80mm travel, and mechanical disc brakes!) - still had a blast building up my skills
      Get out there and ride your bike dude

    Is pumping the equivalent to the preload required for jumping?

    • @jakubknioa1159
      @jakubknioa1159 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes

    • @jakubknioa1159
      @jakubknioa1159 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      with practice it will become natural move for u to pump before jump and on a trail. Then u will fill minimal difference, but it's so small u won't feel that unless jumping extremely steep jumps

    No issues with assembly for me th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
