The dining credit is PER CALENDAR YEAR which means for a first time card holder you can use the $200 dining credit 2x once this year and once next year before you cancel next year
It's called YMMV for a reason. Every human spending, needs, usage varies So if you can't utilize a platinum, great stick with your cobalt And an actual card guru uses multiple cards for diff earning Cobalt for groceries blah blah Mastercard for Costco Blah blah blah Ciao
It’s worth mentioning that the Dell credit is separated into 6 months. You can only get 100 credit each 6 months and total of 200. You won’t get the full 200 if you spend it in the first half or the second half only.
With the TD Infinite Privilege + Aeroplan 50K I don’t really see the value in keeping Amex. Likely just use the $200 dining credit x2 and switch to the Cobalt.
I dont understand how this is going to decrease overcrowding because the people who are going keep it still find value in loubge access and benefits but keep it a sock drawer card. But people who dont care about points and spend everything on their card and dont always use the credits (cash cows for amex) will cancel the card due to fee increase, the problem is amex makes most of thier money by transaction fees
@@samdumcum there aren’t that many Amex lounges. I’ve actually only been to one in New York. So that’s not a huge perk for me as I already have access to lounges at every airport.
Got the notice about upcoming changes from Amex. It says the fees stays the same for Amex Platinum personal at $699. Only the fees for supplementary card goes up from $175 to $250. Please verify.
if you apply for the card before sep26 then does that mean we get it for 699 but we dont get the 200 dollar dining credit? also if for the 200dollar dining credit can it be used internationally or can it only be used in canada?
All cdn cards have it except the trash tier cards. Like Scotia passport or whatever card, some mbna card I think. Check Google But I wouldn't touch any of those trash cards for that 2.5% savings Just get cash before you travel But I agree it should be waived on platinum
I have contacted Amex through the app chat, and they said that if I apply now, I would still pay the new annual fee since the annual fee is charged after the first statement which is usually after 1 month (which falls after september 26th). Can anyone confirm this?
This is what the customer service told me. This is why I was wondering if anyone have another response to that, because it all turns out in the wording of the condition : at next Card anniversary.
These changes are bad for me. Centurion lounges are over crowded. FHR "perk" is useless. Hilton and Marriott gold status doesnt help with upgrades regardless of the suite or sweet talking even when hotels are empty. I have stopped asking for upgrades. I'll ditch the platinum card and no looking back. Visa AP VIP plus the Cobalt cards offers the best combination.
I have been receiving 10x MR points for restaurants and geocery in the lasrtcouple of weeks. Similar to the welcome bonus I had last year. Any idea why?
I've been getting the same thing too. I asked AMEX a few weeks back and they said it's a "system glitch"...but still getting the 10x points in the meantime
I don't think this works anymore. I booked a hotel room, had to cancel and they put it back on my account as useable in AMEX portal and took the credit away on my Platinum statement.
Lots of the eligible restaurants are very high end anyway so even with 3-4 people it would be very easy to reach that $200. Especially if you want a nice bottle of wine or other drinks to go with your dinner

Cobalt Card remains supreme, not worth platinum or gold for Canada, only worth it in the USA!

@@VirtousStoic I don’t know what YMMV means, also I think you’re taking it too seriously🤔
@@Athithan_2000 your mileage may vary
If only American Express brings back the income requirement to help the lounge crowding issues

After these changes the Aeroplan Reserve + Cobalt combo seems like the way to go over the Platinum.
TD VIP + cobalt IMO

Depends on how much you use the Amex lounge passes.

Good to see these vids rolling out again!
Do Amex business cards hit on your credit score when we apply ? In the US business cards Don’t show up in the credit report
Just for sanity check: this change only applies to Canadian card holders?
Got the notice about upcoming changes from Amex. It says the fees stays the same for Amex Platinum personal at $699. Only the fees for supplementary card goes up from $175 to $250. Please verify.

Amex REALLY doesn’t want to touch that sweet 2.5% FOREX fee cash cow

Hard to call yourself a premium travel card when you can't use the card outside the country for travel
💯
would love to know your stance on the new Diners Club Canada Corporate Card changes, and if you think Diners Club Canada might ever make a comeback.

I would be surprise as you register now with actual price… O do not see how they could charge more than what you agree when you signed up…
Good thing my card closes on 9/24! 😂

This is not what the app chat agent told me, told me I would only pay the $699. not the $799
Can I go dine on September 23rd? Since my statement will come after September 26th?
Here in Taiwan, we cost 1200USD for annual fee. Unfair lol
Yeah Canada is one of the cheapest especially the business platinum prior to the increase

Keep quiet bud lol
AMEX could raise the fee to 1000$ people would still keep the card ..
They do in other countries in aus it's like 1400
What about the Amex gold over this?
I wish we got these perks on credit cards in Denmark we get zero perks not even the Uber perks in the Marriott app
is the gold business a metal card?
Unfortunately no. Hopefully one day it will be
It would be good if you pause and take a breath. Give us a chance to absorb. Then build on it.
Did anyone have try to reserve a room and cancel to keep the 200$ credit?
2:10 use it on a refundable rate to "cash out" the credit

Sorry I realized the Canadian and American cards must be different.
wow going from 3x to 2x is making it so unattractive
Give me no FX fees!!
The business plat is already 699
OMG ❤ U
I NEED A NEW CARD OFFER
The platinum hotel status upgrade is only good for 1 year then you lose them

Where is this list of eligible restaurants?
as of now, I think it's the Amex Top 100 Canadian restaurants.
Canada's 100 Best Restaurants
It’s really easy at those fine dining restaurant to spend $100-$150/pp.
I can't imagine spending $200 on a single restaurant visit, unless I was treating a large group.

You're getting a $200 credit, with only a $100 annual fee increase. That $200 restaurant bill only cost you $100 "out of pocket"
