    Hi Pete.
    Just my thoughts on this.
You’re on a good trajectory, I think the worst thing you could do right now is put a pay wall on your content and move to completely different platform.
I doubt many would follow you, and things will just fizzle out.
I think you should go the crowd funding route, and turn it into content. I’m sure everyone would love to see a vlog of you making your way to Villa and your experiences before, during and after the match. Many would be happy to donate, myself included.
But locking the content itself… I don’t think that’ll work. No chance I’m paying for yet another subscription service, and I imagine most viewers will feel the same.
Whatever you choose, I hope it works out. But I think this is a really bad idea.

Great show as always Pete! Think you might struggle to retain an audience by going a full patreon only model. It's much more difficult to do but I think a mixed model seems to work for a lot of other outlets. It keeps people engaged, keeps the door open for new people but lets people know that there's a route to more and better content by contributing. Something to consider.

Totally agree with this comment, almost all youtubers have Patreon for extra/exclusive content and not everything and then some only have 20 odd Patreon subscribers - do love the channel though but couldn't afford behind a paywall as per many comments but will enjoy until that happens and up the Mighty Villa!

The others thing is that not knowing the new content or not having a sample of it on a free basis cant entice you to go ful support on patreons. I guess its hard to manage both...

Great show as always Pete - but I think your timing is off for Patreon. With a loyal subscriber base of less than 10k and the current financial crisis biting all of us around the globe - this doesn't seem like the ideal time to jump ship. I understand your wishes to provide more content and finally get to Villa Park as part of your bucket list pilgrimage but let me tell you there are plenty of people currently living in Birmingham who can't afford to go to Villa Park and are struggling to make ends meet. My advice to you is to continue as you are and steadily build your sub base to a point where it makes sense financially to switch platform. Don't do a Villa and increase costs at a time when every penny counts for most of us UTMV

Why not just do a patreon exclusive once a month and start it now 🤷🏻‍♂️ people who can support will and people who can’t won’t but will still support and grow the channel here. There’s also monetisation on YT through the join button. Hey ho, not my decision

@@bafter2 Yeah, Pete definitely deserves it. The other route he could go down is either advertising, or doing short videos on here that are clipped from the Patreon. That way, people on here don't lose all content, but patrons get full access.

    @jigglypoker5888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I used to work at a social media marketing agency, we had a few projects trying to monetise huge audiences so I can thought I can weigh-in on this. Conversion rate of TH-cam to Patreon conversion sits at about 0.5% of regular viewers typically - we used the the number 0.4% for conservative auditory purposes. You seem to get around 6,000 views per video so regular viewers could be around 4,000 and 0.5% of that would be 20 - but let's be positive and say 50. 50*$5 gives you an income $250 a month, shave off roughly 9% commission and you're left with $227.50 a month. Split with your partner that's just over $100 each.
But hey, $100 is a $100 right? Not bad. But the main risk with that all-in Patreon model is a stunting of growth trajectory. So you've got to ask yourself can you monetise your channel in such a way with/without Patreon that doesn't stunt growth *or* can you supply a product that will increase the 0.5% audience conversion rate to such an extent that it is worth the stunt in audience growth?
    Here's my suggestion:
Keep the show how it is, to continue your growth and create a unique product that is better suited to k'ching cash cash cash... 🥁 Ready? Here's your product... 🥁 Aston Villa match watch-a-longs. You're in the unique position to be in a country that allows you to watch every single Aston Villa match legally, therefore you can legally do a watch-a-long. No UK TH-camrs could do this for every match - therefore it is gold. You could live-stream via public TH-cam for the first-half/20 minutes (for Patreon promotion) and then continue via a private link available via Patreon. Or you could do the entire show via a private link and then upload the highlights of your watchalong as content on the TH-cam channel. Again, no Aston Villa channels are doing this. Also - if you choose the former option the opens up the opportunity to 'Superchats' for the first half... another revenue stream.
Hope you read this, I hope you value my input. Whatever you choose to do - I hope it brings you the results you want!

I rate the THTS as one the most detailed and absorbing all-things-villa channels on YT. I'm trying to cut down on subscriptions so I'm 50/50 given the current financial climate right now,so not certain about Patreon, but keep up the great work and hopefully this new appointment will give you loads of positive and exciting content. I think you should consider keeping YT appetizers < 10 minute high-level overviews of matches/reviews, leaving people wanting more, then have the techy in-depth stuff for Patreon subscribers. Always UTV!!!

    Some feedback from a neutral:
I watch your videos, just because what you say is good. Not even a Villa fan. But I do sometimes think you’ve taken too long for a post-match video, probably because of how much you value high-quality production.
I’ve actually recommended your channel to some other football fans, Chelsea fans in fact. Because you’re good to listen to.
However, I’d never pay for Patreon, simply because I can’t be arsed to use a other platform. I waste enough time on TH-cam.

I agree £2.50 a month would be more justifiable, and it's not just the content, it's supporting a fellow Villa fan who's provided a lot over the last year but I think even then there's so much free Villa content out there it's hard to justify paying for it (especially as I already subscribe to MOMS @25 quid a year). I think there's a strategy, but one that got veered off course with the Gerrard hire. This feels like NSWE taking back the rudder and hitting the reset button somewhat, taking things back in line with where they feel the club should be heading.
In any case, it's an extremely exciting appointment and precisely what Villa need right now. I see Emery as a guy who's fully capable of getting this current squad where it should be on paper, because it's absolutely a squad capable of gatecrashing the European places when coached right. Whether he continues to be the right guy for us when we're there remains to be seen but I see no reason why he wouldn't be currently. Hope it works out for him - in the short term, it's hard to have any complaints at all.
Here's hoping for Danks to round out the 100% record this weekend!

You need the ubiquity of TH-cam to boost viewer numbers and reach a larger audience. As someone else mentioned, why not have Patreon only content while still producing 1 quality free show per week. That way I can choose to watch extra content one week and the next (when the leccie bill comes !!!) I can choose not to. Just a thought. I hope to continue to be able to enjoy your insightful comments on TH-cam, but if you decide to go the Patreon route I'll have to say goodbye. Wish you all the best anyway pal !

You should do both, you’ll need to keep doing these videos to drive traffic to patreon. I understand you make great content but that’s how much NBC charges here in states for peacock.

Don’t really understand how not having enough time to get content up here will change by moving to Patreon? There aren’t more hours in the day on that platform!

Think he is saying that a steady Patreon infusion of cash would allow him to work fewer hours in his current job. Can't produce free content so the hours spent creating "THTS" must be compensated. My takeaway anyway.

I will definitely subscribe and you’ll take enough with you to Patreon. My only concern is if you drop TH-cam altogether it’ll be hard to attract new followers but I’m sure you and your producer have taken all that into consideration.

Great vid as usual! Bold move to go Patreon exclusive and understand your need to monetise, but would assume you’d continue to grow your fan base through TH-cam, alongside Patreon. I subscribe to a couple of other Patreon creators but they aren’t exclusive to Patreon, they just use it as a platform to deliver additional content for the paying subscribers. Continually converting free subscribers to paying subscribers has to the way forward otherwise it’ll be difficult to grow a fan base…Hope it works out for you, either way 👍🏻

I was really looking forward to this shoe as always but especially after the appointment of Emery however I am now saddened by the news that I will have to pay if I want to continue watching this great show from next year.
Surely there could have been some other options than this?
I will be sad when the new year comes but I just cannot afford to pay £50 a year for a you tube Chanel even as bloody good this is. Good luck Pete UTV

I'd suggest make your weekly show available on audio podcast (inc adds) as well as you tube and then have additional conent for Patreon. This is the same model MOMS use (but without the you tube). Good luck.

Hi Pete, adore your channel. However, to turn a lovely 'fan channel' into a money making scheme just doesn't sit right with me. If people want to donate that's great, but to block the thousands who can't afford it is more about 'commercialism' than creating a Villa fan channel. I will really miss this channel as I look forward to it every week, but I'm sure you have your reasons and the very best of luck with your new career! Above all... Up, The Mighty Villa!!!

Was told Villa offered to get Gerrard a taxi back to Brum after he'd been sacked but he declined and caught the bus back with the rest of the squad. Also interesting quotes that Unai Emery told Villareal last Friday he was taking the job at B6. So it seems NSWE had made their minds up before SG got the sack.

Think you'd do better to monetise your presence on TH-cam than to completely gate off the content. I'm sure Neil and Paddy can tell you that there's quite a bit which comes through by way of tips on their livestream and you can add Patreon on top of that, whilst keeping most your content available for all.

Totally understand the reasons why Pete. It must take a hell of a lot of time and effort. I think the principle will frustrate some people but what you and the other content producers do for free is phenomenonal... the problem is if every villa content provider did the same the average viewer would be looking at £20-30 pm for the content.
Good luck with it and I'm on the fence...though I imagine I'll support you and sign up

I do love your content and how you present it.
And although I appreciate the reasons and point of view for changing platforms, I too share similar concerns about moving right now.
I also agreeing looking into live events as you mentioned, ppl will use the superchats, donations so worth a shot. There are lots of live stream models out there for examples, a particular fav of mine is The United Stand with Mark Goldbridge who does indepth MU games and analysis. But he also does all games in the prem, euro games and international. Its another revenue stream to consider. :)

I hate to be mister wet knickers over here but my tenure as an Aston Villa fan has been a veritable smorgasbord of underachievement, failure and disappointment. With the exception of very few highlights. Would it be best for us to adopt a more cautious approach until we see how things develop on the pitch. I think it's fair to say that we've been here before and have been disappointed.
Dont get me wrong, I want Unia Emery to succeed as much as anyone but I feel that a cautious approach may be the best option.
