As a Long-time Musician (55 years), I have Huge Respect for Christian Eiger for being a Terrific Musician. He's just a Solid, Powerful Drummer with Great Chops and Impeccable Timing!
I agree, I think 19" and 20" crashes feel and sound great, regardless of line. One of my favorites is the 20" Giant Beat Multi used as a crash. Incredible feel and sits perfectly in any mix. 19" Signature full crash is the definition of perfection in my opinion.
CHRISTIAN: DO YOU REALIZE THAT WITH YOUR HYPERKINETIC WAY OF PLAYING THE DRUMS YOU RUINED THE SOUND OF DEPECHE MODE? WHY DO YOU ALWAYS, DAMN IT, HAVE TO PLAY THE TOMS OR FILL THE SILENCES. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? DID YOU KNOW THAT PLAYING JUST AND NECESSARY IS THE BEST THING FOR AN ELECTRONIC BAND? YOU'RE NOT IN GUNS AND ROSES. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE WEAK AND PASTY SOUND THAT THE DRUM HAS, WITHOUT BRIGHTNESS AND MANY TIMES WITHOUT EFFECTS (A SIN FOR DM'S IDENTITY) IS VERY DEPRESSING AND WEAKENS SONGS LIKE BLACK CELEBRATION. NOT TO TALK ABOUT THE BASS DRUM WHICH IS MISSING IN MOST OF THE SONGS (AND AGAIN, WITHOUT EFFECTS), IT IS UNFORGIVEN FOR THIS TO HAPPEN IN SONGS LIKE ENJOY THE SILENCE. YOU ARE THE WORST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO DEPECHE MODE AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF ALAN AND DEAR FLETCHER. BUT OF COURSE, DAVE IS YOUR LITTLE FRIEND AND HE EVEN ENCOURAGES YOU TO CONTINUE PLAYING EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS ON YOUR DRUMS, A LOT OF NOISE, YOU LOVE IT!
My draem china is 22" Modern Essentials China. I'll have it this year but have to wait for a bit. It is my perfect china. I 100% agree with him. You cannot go wrong with the 2002 and 602 line. Rude and Signature is amazing as well. Paiste ROCKS!
Paiste has the Estonian origins actually. It was established by Estonian bell master, Mihkel Toomas Paiste as early as 1906. It worked well in Estonia until 1940 when it was moved to Switzerland due the Soviet occupation. The late Robert Paiste (1932 -- 2016) was the long time leader of the firm, who established Paiste as the classic rock and jazz cymbals brand. Now the CEO is Erik Paiste.
Christian is a huge inspiration. Great musician, drummer and artist with distinct style and taste.
Eigner, the best drummer for me. Thunderous and powerful with a rhythm and groove.
