See this is why I like your videos. You don't do change just for the sake of change. Pickup sounds great out of the box? Keep the pickup. Floyd Rose is their most "affordable" model? Keep it, it works great. I do love that you changed the pot. That was a solid upgrade. Sure you could have gone hog wild trying to get it as close as possible to EVH's, but you just want to play the darn thing. Mike, as always, I love love love your content. Keep it up brother. You are thanking us for watching your channel. May I thank you for putting me on to this particular guitar. Mine arrived yesterday. I was lucky to get in before the seller became overwhelmed. It took only three weeks to arrive in the UK, and so far I am really happy with it. My Pick up only came in at 5.51K but, I've sourced an EVH pickup and wiring including the pot, from a stripe series that reads 13.71K so that will sort that out. The only other thing is the relicing on the neck is too Grey, but, as you say, I'll take that off and dress the frets and sand it all down and then it will be good to go. Who else would rather have a guitar that needed just a bit of this or that at a low price? Who else finds a connection to the instrument when you bring out what wasn't there before? Music is a creative endeavor and so can the equipment if that is what you want. I can't really connect with a guitar that is as it was right out of the box. Make it yours.

I bought one right after watching your video from the original vender - here’s my take on mine (received 3 days ago): Same reaction as you, except my neck is 21 frets and very chunky (but comfortable!). My trem sucked - Floyd 2 like yours but laughably terrible. Pickup is the same - good! Body just like yours - looks killer. Overall, I think mine is slightly worse quality than yours, mainly because they were making them so fast to keep up demand. I’m still happy to have gotten it,and it’s totally fun to mod and mess with. This thing is a modder’s delight! Thanks for all the great info.
After a few days with mine, the whammy mechanism kept coming loose so I added a lock washer and put some medium strength loctite on the screw/bolt before re-assembling and now it stays tight.
I just got mine yesterday! Paid $326. I love it. Can't believe how well it plays. Frets are great. Tuners will be replaced. Thinking about throwing in my dimebucker 😂. Really Franken it up! Thanks again for the inspiration to get this bad boy!

I just received my EVH replica I bought from the same seller as you after I saw your first unboxing of it (before they went out of stock from overwhelming orders). It needs some setup - Low E and A need intonating, and the action is too high for me, but I can dive and stay well enough in tune (maybe need to tighten the nut more). Overall, totally happy. Thanks for these videos! My face lit up as I pulled that white thin veil of foam off and saw what was waiting to be plugged in. Mine has the truss adjustment at the headstock and the neck felt like the fattest neck I'd ever had but I'm used to thinner necks so not sure if this is considered extra fat.
Mine arrived a few days ago. I have the neck without an overhang and truss rod adjuster at the headstock end. No relicing on the neck apart from one mark on the headstock. The pickup is microphonic. I had to carve away some wood inside the trem rout as the bridge was catching. Oh yeah, my quarter is a 1941 version too. My other Chibson is a non-reverse Firebird 😀
The pickuo in mine was reading low ohms. Only one coil was hooked up. The other two wires were cut back. I rewired it and put in a new pot and its fine now.
I purchased one of these Frankie's via Aliexpress, came in about a month ago. Nice body work. Electronics not great, so I put in an EVH Frankie bridge pup -- like night and day! But, the neck -- not good at all. The fretwork was pretty bad, you could rock the fretwires in the grooves. The locking nut was too high so you couldn't get the action right. I shimmed the neck 4-5 times to get it close to playable, but it wasn't great at all. I finally took it to a luthier. He's going to dial it in and then I think it's going to be my #1 axe. Even with the upgrades I'm doing, I'm coming in under 1/2 of an EVH from Mexico. ...Panama!
Bought the 5150 version and a similar Chiibson Frankentrat - My Frankenstrat chibson had the 21 fret neck - replaced the bridge with a Floyd Special in both of them- Dropped in a EVH Frankenstrat pickup and duncan distortion in the 5150 along with the low friction pots - sanded the Frankenstrat neck down some -...got to say plays awesome. The frankenstrat was higher quality than the 5150 chibson but both very playable after upgrades - Bodies are bass wood based on weight .........will say steer clear of the Yngwie scalloped Chibson- bought a case of 5 and every one had major issues with scalloping.. Great video!

Will be interesting to see how it sounds when I get it but I will not be getting as carried away as you did to get it right. For a start I am lefty so right away I'm not close.

Eddy made his from parts, yours hasn't even got a name on the headstock, it's a tribute to a very influential and great guitar player. What are Fender going to do next, trademark the term 'Partscaster'? This guitar isn't my cup of tea BUT I'm totally into your review, enthusiasm and appreciation for this guitar.
I started modifying my own guitars years ago and doing all my own set ups and research out of necessity because the guitars with the package I needed weren't on the shelves and if they were they were $2000 . People that expect guitars to play out've the box and think they will do it all, there's a big chunk missing. No way would I buy one of those official frankenstrats when I could build one for under $500

I'm sure it's because it was built and the immediately put in a box. It should gas off within a week. I believe they use an epoxy clear over it. Epoxy stinks.

Floyd Rose 2 you string them up through the adjustment screws on the back. That Floyd is a knock off Floyd ( designer made in China ) you can tell by the chrome fine tuners. Floyd Rose doesn't make chrome fine tuners they are brass or painted black

I think that the primary issue is your tossing around of the phrase "Chibson". THIS is NOT what a Chibson is. Not every guitar made in China falls under this category. An item advertised as a Gibson guitar, that is made by someone other than and made in China is a Chibson. That's it! Everything else does not fall under this stupid nick-name. Chinese companies also make fake fender guitars but I don't see anyone calling them Chenders! Either way, it's dumb. What's more dumb? ANY company giving you crap for simply showing us things that are available on the FREE MARKET! F*ck them, Good Sir! And f*ck them hard and proper! Obviously what you are doing is helping others to decide weather or not they would like to make the same purchase as you. I, personally, have taken your advise and bought one. Same seller! Same model! Thank you! because of your quality content, I am also a new subscriber. So, again, thank you for the sharing of your research. It helped me decide on a quality product, that was made in China, and technically NOT a Knock-off. It's not branded, and the same parts are out there for sale, if one decided to take the time to build it themselves. I went nuts when Eddie died and had a mid life crisis lol I bought everything evh to keep it short came through some hard times I had to pawn my $2000 dollar evh Frankie (which I had nothing but problems with would not stay in tune horrible feedback etc)I since bought this one to replace it I also bought a chibson zakk wylde black and white bullseye I could not be happier with the both of them not to mention I got them both for under $500 total whoever complains about buying these guitars should be sending their complaints to fender there in it for nothing but money I would put this guitar up to my old 2000 evh any day…ps the evh fender sells has a bs Floyd on it 2

Ok I got the same guitar as you from what I think is the same factory? My God it was dirty and smelled awful. What are your thoughts about the smell? Any suggestions what to do about it. I hope that the Chinese are watching their lead and heavy metals. Thanks
I'm sure it's because it was built and the immediately put in a box. It should gas off within a week. I believe they use an epoxy clear over it. Epoxy stinks.

"I think" 🤣... as long as 'you' buy a Chibson knowing you're going to need to do a bit of work on it, it's fine... I never buy a cheap guitar & then moan that it's not 100% perfect (I've bought 'name brand' guitars that were less than perfect)... Floyd Rose 2 you string them up through the adjustment screws on the back. That Floyd is a knock off Floyd ( designer made in China ) you can tell by the chrome fine tuners. Floyd Rose doesn't make chrome fine tuners they are brass or painted black

@KurtS5150 well you just said it was a string through man. You were wrong. My black is worn off. And that doesn't mean they haven't been changed. I think you may want to do a Google search. There are plenty out there. FLOYD R 2's are not a holy grail. Either way they did a good job.

I think that the primary issue is your tossing around of the phrase "Chibson". THIS is NOT what a Chibson is. Not every guitar made in China falls under this category. An item advertised as a Gibson guitar, that is made by someone other than and made in China is a Chibson. That's it! Everything else does not fall under this stupid nick-name. Chinese companies also make fake fender guitars but I don't see anyone calling them Chenders! Either way, it's dumb. What's more dumb? ANY company giving you crap for simply showing us things that are available on the FREE MARKET! F*ck them, Good Sir! And f*ck them hard and proper! Obviously what you are doing is helping others to decide weather or not they would like to make the same purchase as you. I, personally, have taken your advise and bought one. Same seller! Same model! Thank you! because of your quality content, I am also a new subscriber. So, again, thank you for the sharing of your research. It helped me decide on a quality product, that was made in China, and technically NOT a Knock-off. It's not branded, and the same parts are out there for sale, if one decided to take the time to build it themselves. I went nuts when Eddie died and had a mid life crisis lol I bought everything evh to keep it short came through some hard times I had to pawn my $2000 dollar evh Frankie (which I had nothing but problems with would not stay in tune horrible feedback etc)I since bought this one to replace it I also bought a chibson zakk wylde black and white bullseye I could not be happier with the both of them not to mention I got them both for under $500 total whoever complains about buying these guitars should be sending their complaints to fender there in it for nothing but money I would put this guitar up to my old 2000 evh any day…ps the evh fender sells has a bs Floyd on it 2
