Ben Shee Wild Camp, Hilleberg Niak

  • A stroll over a few of The Ochils to reach Ben Shee in the Glendevon area. “Scots Nomad” sets up his trusty Hilleberg Niak on a decent spot. Later joined by Billy, who started up the Ochil Hills Walkers group in his black label Hilleberg Keron 3.
    First time I haven’t solo camped in a couple of years. I had took a lot of footage of the tents etc, the wind was strong for the drone and limited by the location as a result. I had intended making this a short film with very little talking but as usual the talking sections are lengthy. I had intended filming most of the walk back and taking in some of the “Glensherrup Horseshoe” route. When I realised the remaining time and I had no food for the walk I took the shortest quickest route back for me, about two hours when I parted at Innerdownie leaving Billy to pace himself for the longer route back to Sherrifmuir.
    I took a touch of camera nerves and became quite self conscious with talking as I knew there was someone else camping nearby, hopefully this is something I can work on.
    Hope you enjoy the clips I felt I could use … 👍

    I agree with you, much easier to make TH-cam videos alone. Feel quite self conscious with others present!
    Nice video, some lovely scenes, you captured the great expanses well.

      Packing for tomorrow night, think this one is solo, ironically I’m planning on not doing any talking sections 😂

    Another nice wee video Sean, Can you advise on a good place to park my car if i were to do an overnighter on Ben Shee, I would be coming from the Yetts O Muckart direction,
    Cheers Bob.

      Hi Bob, probably near the Glensherrup fishery/reservoir, I walked over from Tillicoultry…
      If you get parked near the Tourmakin it might be worth a try, I don’t think you can park overnight at the Glendevon car park 🤔

    I know what you mean Sean, about being aware of other people, and self conscious of your own voice, admittedly, it does feel strange, and kinda want to dissapear into a 🐚 that's how I felt when filming my vid on TH-cam Snowy wee glen, specially when I was trying to film the deer, a guy was also filming the same deer 🦌

      I did a section just filming the other tent, talking about the features etc, Billy was over having a look at my tent, it was just really nervy and unnatural…
      First attempt at vlogging in company lol…
      The Cairngorm one was bizarre, I would be chatting away and walkers would shout over or wave lol, too many retakes 🙈😂

    Great video, thank you. Is it easy take out the inner first if there's heavy rain? And if you're camping more than one night can you then pitch the outer first before attaching the inner? I've got a Niak but last time I tried to take out the inner the outer started to splay out! Thanks again, enjoy your videos!

    • @scotsnomad7395
      @scotsnomad7395  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes to all of the above. I often remove the inner in the morning after a heavy rain. I can do this while still in the tent, or at least begin the process, saves getting wet, then pack it it a separate dry bag. If pitching the outer first the next evening, put the corner pegs more to the inside of the flysheet to begin with, this will make attaching the inner easier , then place the pegs on the outside of the flysheet again, this stops the poles splaying outwards…
      Hope this helps…

    Great video. 10 mm poles what you use, from witch tent they original? From the Staika?

    • @scotsnomad7395
      @scotsnomad7395  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not sure, maybe Staika 🤔
      I know the Niak has same poles as Allak, and they upgrade to the black 10mm poles…
      The 9mm poles are very strong but the 10mm hold the tent very tight and firm 👍

      @@scotsnomad7395 Thank you for the answer. I look on the hilleberg side. And i think that you now have the Tarra poles. ATB Raymond

      The 10mm poles are very strong, I did a video on the Niak and I think I worked out taking the 10mm poles with me instead of the 9mm poles as only 50g heavier…
      Very good tent 👍
