Absolutely fabulous and smart! After all "cool rock" 70-s albums and complete failure of 1978's "From the Inside" Alice decided to take a different direction in his career and made his music more commercially eatable, so the Pop, Easy Rock, and New Wave radio station could play his songs. Many old-time fans did not forgive him for that. Album was produced by Roy Thomas Baker, the guy why made golden and platinum albums with Queen, Nazareth, Cheap Trick, etc. Back in that time, the album sounds to some folks too much like a cheap Pop Rock and critics did not lose a chance to annihilate Alice for a commercial approach, but today I see it as it's a true Classic Rock album with exelent tracks and sound. So, if you have a backyard party tomorrow and offer your guest beer, BBQ and loud music put Alice's "Pain" or "Clones" as a welcoming tune.
He must have done any number of videos we've rarely seen, if ever. This song was the most "Ezrin-like" of the RTB productions on "Flush The Fashion". There's another recording of this song on the "Roadie" soundtrack (along with a newer version of "Road Rats"), that was produced by Todd Rundgren, and has most of Utopia on the track. It's great in its' own way, and Alice changes the "all night...tonight" line around at the end of that version. Alice and the group make an appearance in that film as well. As seen with "Clones", it's good that Alice could still make great music, even if he was jeopardizing his health at the time. It's ok to look back on this period of his life now, since we know he got healthier after that.
I really like this period, now, although at the time I called it, Alice Numan, and Devo Cooper. I liked it later in retrospect. And I have this album on vinyl, as well as special forces, zipper, missing, but also dada. I eventually got all of those on CD, including zipper. That whole period has a novelty ambiance about it. And I love it. I love it to deth! It's significant to Alice's mutated history. God's bless him! (Yes, I said gods, not God)I mean it from the bottom of my pool! (Lemmy said that!)
This was like the ballad of the album, the album had new wave stuff (Clones, Leather Boots mainly) but the rest had a punky feel but the synths gave it a new wave flavor at times, but this was probably his punkiest sounding album along with special forces and zipper catches skin.

Manson borrowed(stole) from this period of Alice.
He borrowed(stole) from any period of Alice.
@@johanjohansson3973 I think Alice's old demons found Marilyn Manson but are not trying as hard to destroy him because he is less likely to be saved by Jesus Christ.
@@violet.senderhauf2187 Oh, they're destroying him plenty, it's plainly obvious.
seems Alice was a lot scarier back in the day
