A masterpiece! The perfect summation of Carter/Reagan-era America. I bought it new and still have my original vinyl copy. Someday this album will be recognized as the brilliant piece of art that it is. Someday, when someone asks what America was like in the 1980s, someone will play this lp and it will explain it!

    Unfathomable pain
And it's a compliment to me

Amen, Mr. Eastwood. Couldn't agree more.
Grew up on this album, 1/2 of it should have been all over the radio then and STILL getting played on classic rock stations in between AC DC and Tom Petty the past 4 decades. lol
Brother, you keep bringin that truth in watever wordz you wanna. Mr. callahan and his keyboard nazis might learn a few things. Like
1 Good folks who don't talk 'n type perfekt all the tiime are more fun and way more saferer and healthy to be around than those who think they should correct someone when they ain't even been asked and should be mindin their own bidness
2 People doin stuff like that are the point of some of coop's lyrics in this very song! lol
      and
3 Mr callahan needs to go re-partake in the vids he posted on his channel about peace, harmony, enjoyment and freewill.
It's hilarious, ironic AND seriously misguided that someone with a bunch of religious and spirituality videos on their channel felt the need to come to song A GODFATHER OF POLITICAL INCORRECTNESS wrote about PAIN just to correct a HAPPY fan expressing three whole count 'em POSITIVE thoughts in about TWELVE plain inglish WORDZ!! lol
This is probably exactly why coop penned in Clones right before Pain:
      "I'm through doctor.
      We don't need your kind.
      The other ones.
      Ugly ones.
      Stupid boys.
      Wrong ones."
"We're all clones. All are one and one are all."
"Six is having trouble adjusting to his clone status,
Have to put him on a shelf.
All day long, hear him crying so loud...I just wanna be myself, I just wanna be myself, be myself, be myself, be myself."
Hmmm... all these years later maybe there's a pattern... Maybe folks who feel the need to disrupt someone's happiness to correct that person's grammar for their own self-aggrandizement is EXACTLY why coop followed a song about trying make humans Clones immediately with a song about Pain. lol
What a great album. Rock on brother! ;)

Absolutely fabulous and smart! After all "cool rock" 70-s albums and complete failure of 1978's "From the Inside" Alice decided to take a different direction in his career and made his music more commercially eatable, so the Pop, Easy Rock, and New Wave radio station could play his songs. Many old-time fans did not forgive him for that. Album was produced by Roy Thomas Baker, the guy why made golden and platinum albums with Queen, Nazareth, Cheap Trick, etc. Back in that time, the album sounds to some folks too much like a cheap Pop Rock and critics did not lose a chance to annihilate Alice for a commercial approach, but today I see it as it's a true Classic Rock album with exelent tracks and sound. So, if you have a backyard party tomorrow and offer your guest beer, BBQ and loud music put Alice's "Pain" or "Clones" as a welcoming tune.

I really like this period, now, although at the time I called it, Alice Numan, and Devo Cooper. I liked it later in retrospect. And I have this album on vinyl, as well as special forces, zipper, missing, but also dada. I eventually got all of those on CD, including zipper. That whole period has a novelty ambiance about it. And I love it. I love it to deth! It's significant to Alice's mutated history. God's bless him! (Yes, I said gods, not God)I mean it from the bottom of my pool! (Lemmy said that!)

This was like the ballad of the album, the album had new wave stuff (Clones, Leather Boots mainly) but the rest had a punky feel but the synths gave it a new wave flavor at times, but this was probably his punkiest sounding album along with special forces and zipper catches skin.

He was in such a bad place in this period, hard drinking, hard drugs, losing more and more friends as he went, I believe he's said that he has a lot of gaps in his memory of this time, that he doesn't recall recording albums such as Zipper Catches Skin, stuff like that.
DaDa has another track which is really powerful like this, Pass The Gun Around, and I'm not sure about the exact time period of this, but I wonder if this song relates to when he came to his breaking point, when he had alienated all his friends and family. He hated his life and was about to shoot himself, then in the last moment opens the gun and dumps the cartridges out the window, flushes his cocaine down the toilet, and cries himself to sleep, checking into rehab the next day.

  • @Mitschfibre
    @Mitschfibre 5 ปีที่แล้ว

He must have done any number of videos we've rarely seen, if ever. This song was the most "Ezrin-like" of the RTB productions on "Flush The Fashion". There's another recording of this song on the "Roadie" soundtrack (along with a newer version of "Road Rats"), that was produced by Todd Rundgren, and has most of Utopia on the track. It's great in its' own way, and Alice changes the "all night...tonight" line around at the end of that version. Alice and the group make an appearance in that film as well. As seen with "Clones", it's good that Alice could still make great music, even if he was jeopardizing his health at the time. It's ok to look back on this period of his life now, since we know he got healthier after that.
