i actually feel quite sad watching this video because when he wrote it it was genuine but in this performance he had relapsed and was so obviously ill,there's no feeling it was just performance. i am so glad he recovered- i got to see him )after being a fan for as long as i can remember) for the first time in 1989 when i was 16 and haven't missed a tour since. he is better mentally and physically and is now still performing all over the world with more energy than a lot of younger bands

Thank God for his wife though (this song is about her), that marriage saved his life twice.

I remember seeing one of his shows on Dutch television back in (probably) 1974. It looked a lot like this. I was 7 years old and I knew this is what I wanted to become and do for a living. Girls of my age wanted to become a princess. I wanted to become Alice Cooper. 😁

You can hear Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist) influence on this one! Also Elton's band members guitarist Davey Johnstone and bassist Dee Murray played on this album. As did Jay Graydon and Steve Lukather of TOTO! This album was produced by 70's/80's/90's master David Foster so the whole album really stands out as an awesome though very brief departure in Alice's discography! "No Tricks" was a B-side to this and features soul singer Betty Wright! Check it out!

I love Alice and not knocking him in any way, but he was very sick in this video and probably got hospitalized not far after he did this. He is painfully thin and looks very sick. Poor baby. I'm glad he quit drinking and is healthy now.

He's almost speaking the lyrics here - It's almost as if he were out of breath during the whole song. There's little of his usually fine voice in this performance. Of all of the videos during the late-70's and early 80's period where he performs live, this one is perhaps the most disheartening. The song is still as great as ever, but Alice wasn't up to it during this version. I'm still amazed how the albums he put out during these years were as good as they were.
That's the difference between recording a great track for an album and performing on a stage in front of thousands of people, doing a theatrical rock show. This was a choice. It was not like he couldn't sing.
