    Y'all being nephews if you think Harden's talent wasn't enough to win championships. The Rockets from 2017-2019 were incredible teams while being led by a MVP level James Harden. Judging his legacy by his inability to beat arguably the greatest team of all time in the Durant-era Warriors is unfair and ignorant. Bron couldn't do it either. It should not be a blemish on anyone's legacy to get beat by that team

      Personally, I think the Cavs vs Rockets
      series in 2018 would have been incredible. I think it would have went to 6 or 7 games. KD jointing that team ruined the league. The rockets for sure beat the warriors if they ran it back as is after 2016

    The Harden trade was a wholesale organizational failure. It wasn't just that they wanted to keep Ibaka. The bigger picture was that they were cheap so they didn't want to pay the tax, they planned to extend Ibaka, and (here's the kicker) they just signed KENDRICK PERKINS to a long-term contract right after trading for him and ran out of cap space. Losing Harden goes beyond Ibaka. It needs to be pointed out that they gambled on Kendrick Perkins while refusing to pay the tax.
    And if you say they're a small market team and can't afford to pay the tax, 1) all contenders eventually pay the tax; just look at Cleveland when they kept going to the Finals and 2) maybe they should've thought about that before they moved from a bigger market to a smaller one.

      Truth, but lets take it a step further back. The Celtics back then were willing to trade RONDO, PERKINS, JEFF GREEN & A 1ST ROUND PICK for WESTBROOK. If OKC takes the deal they could have kept HARDEN if they would have cut SEFLOSHA or NICK COLLISON.
      PG - RONDO
      SG - HARDEN

    Harden's definitely skilled, but if you look at MJ's career, his game had to become less stat-friendly to maximize the team's ability. The same could be said of the 1967 Sixers, who reduced Wilt's scoring and became (at the time) the greatest team in NBA history. No matter how good your alpha guy is, there's definitely such thing as calling his number too much.

    I got to say this, not few players have the narcissistic personality type to be willing to dominate the ball 90% of the time. That takes a certain level of unawareness. That's a skill. That's something that Curry, bird, even Jordan didn't have. If any of those players will play with heardens way of playing they will break every record. I'm not hating on this man but as somebody who played basketball and if you play basketball you know that they are the most horrible people to play with

    • @KTF0
      @KTF0 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's also a 2K way of playing. You have to know you play with other human beings and not just a ratings avatar. @marco5030 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You didn't watch early MJ if you think he didn't dominate the ball like Harden did. INB4 "but his teammates were terrible" he still monopolized the ball, Kobe did too, even when they had open teammates.

    • @ashmitbhatnagar9027
      @ashmitbhatnagar9027 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you say harden dominates the ball too much to the point where it is not fun to play with him anymore, you are ignoring two major things. First of all, he literally makes his teammates better think capela and now wood, and he is an underrated passer-he definitely finds shooters, cutters, rollers all the time yet we gloss over that fact because we are fed the narrative that he is a ball hog. Second of all, it is ignorant to assume that harden is a ball dominant, selfish player when the isos were a part of his coach, D’antoni’s gameplan and he just listened to his coach. In fact, I would argue that in every situation he has been in he has done what the coach asked of him I.e. he took a bench role in okc despite being miles better than sefolosha and then adapted his game to d’antoni’s request right away when he was signed in Houston. Also, it is not easy to put up the records that he does just because he handles the ball a lot, he literally gets double teamed as soon as he crosses half court. But, carry on and continue to blindly buy what the media says and hate on a generational player simply cuz you don’t like him.

    Harden needs to be added to an already fully functioning team. A team that can exist and compete without him on the floor. Kind of like Jordan and the Bulls. The Bulls would execute the triangle with Pippen running the show. Jordan would sometimes participate in a catch and shoot capacity, but it was a team effort. When or if a play got broken , then and only then would Jordan step in and bail them out with his isolation abilities. This saved Jordan's strength for the playoffs and fourth quarters. The Rockets had that with CP3 but Harden's lazy defense rubbed him the wrong way and CP3 left. Too bad. Such a "What If" moment.

But if you actually watch him play, Malone really couldn't get you a bucket against the best teams when the defense was set. He missed alot of clutch free throws and I'm not just talking about the ones against the Bulls in the finals. @Reese B Yes, but that's the whole point. The only time Harden got to the Finals was when he was one good part of a cohesive team, when he played and shot less than he COULD HAVE. Harden came off the bench and Durant/Westbrook got more shots so Harden's burgeoning talents at that point made that OKC team very deep and tough.
      Once Harden became the individualized focal point he is now, he must dominate the ball so much the other team options don't have the confidence in pressure situations. Yet, he is SO TALENTED he can get you the conference semis and conference finals regularly, but those eventually come down to small minutes of time and in those situations, Harden is suddenly out of his element. The game has been reduced to a few plays against a very good team whose defense is now focused on you.
      It would require a weak year where great players had moved about so much that no good team had experience and chemistry or maybe major injuries to a couple of the best players to create a vacuum for a Harden-led team to win a title. But he's getting to the age now, where even that window is closing.
      If you had a year like when Orlando with Dwight Howard or the Nets with Jason Kidd got the Finals and then Kobe and Shaq were both injured, maybe Harden could sneak in for a title. He's good enough to get you close enough to take advantage of that.

    Karl Malone had a much better work ethic, played offense and defense, and could play very well off ball. Harden is perpetually lazy on the defensive end, hogs the ball like few players in NBA history, and is a team cancer. He's a great talent but there are so many players I'd put over him if I'm building a team, even if those players weren't quite as talented or offensively gifted.

    Houston screwed Harden with improper pairings. At first they wanted to pair him with a big with howard and anderson. Then they went to pairing him with a guard with Paul and westbrook. Houston should've paired him with a wing. If they could've pulled off gordon hayward pre injury and had a team of beverly harden Hayward ariza capella with Lou will and Harrell and gordon off the bench they win a title. The paul trade and anderson signings ruined it.

      Harden is a great workhorse in the regular season and will be in the Hall of Fame. But he lacks an off-ball scoring game, is not a good help defender, and is not a closer. And since Harden refuses to incorporate a mid-range game into his repertoire and doesn't work off his teammates for catch and shoot opportunities, his iso style becomes very predictable in a 7 game series and can be contained by an elite team defense. Harden needs to expand his game beyond step back 3's, FT's and layups. He needs a go-to mid range shot like Kawhi, KD, Butler, Kyrie and CP3 when teams are overplaying him at the three and walling him in the paint.

    • @OfficialJPryde
      @OfficialJPryde 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rollotomasi4045
      I reluctantly agree. I remember back in the McHale coached days, Harden would take mid range shots to a fault. Especially step backs. But that system left so much to be desired. MDA/Morey underrated the importance of giving Harden touches at different points on the floor (block, post, corner, etc), off ball movement, & mid range. Extremely predictable in the post season after a couple of games and they made zero adjustments.
      So far Silas looks good but no sign of the mid range from Harden.

  • @amare1cro
    @amare1cro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    LOL
    What a stupid 2 comparisons.
    Gervin is not at Harden level, he cannot score at will. Harden played multiple WCFs and he took the Rockets there and he lost to the damn Warriors every time. Nearly taking them out despite having 30% of their talent on his team. Gervin who? Harden is the best pure scorer since Kobe and Jordan. Gimme a break.
    Malone on another hand, damn, does Simmons hate him or what. Always says he choked etc. In reality he led his Jazz to some big wins, dominant seasons, finals. Lost to the Bulls fair and square. Should've won one. He played bravely, not perfectly, but went down swinging. Him and John were a perfect combo but dont gimme that Stock was leader of that team BS. Stockton was a no show vs Bulls. Karl was on an Island himself most games. So Karl is a winner, a unique player, a force and a quality constant, 19 seasons always there, always scoring, ass whooping. And played amazing defense. EVEN in Lakers in 2004 at 40 years of age he gelled this team together. So he is a much better team player and overall player than Harden and was a member of an amazing team which was classic and always dangerous. James is nowhere near that level of constant
