Because this show isn’t the same as the American hoarders show. These ladies call themselves the de clutter divas. They love cleaning and organising. They’re not bothering with psychologists and all that jazz.
I pray that Susan’s legacy is that now people understand more about hoarding. And know that it’s not laziness, but a severe mental illness. I know that now, after meeting a Hungarian Jewish woman who turned out to be a hoarder. The way we found out was that she came to the theater where I worked and met her, and said she was robbed, that there’s nothing in her apartment and she’s cold and miserable and she tries to be outside all the time, going to libraries and theaters because they have central heating. I gave her my number and she never called… Then we saw an article about an unusually large hoard that was cleared by the city, it even had a snake shed in it (which no one is sure if the snake lived there and she’d or if she found the shed and brought it home to keep). In the article we saw her back and profile so we realized she was the hoarder in the article. Then it clicked: she kept telling us her mom was deported to Auschwitz. Many holocaust survivors hoard because once in their past, everything was taken from them, including their hair and the clothes that cover their intimate parts. If that happened to me, God forbid, I would never let anyone touch as much as a rock that I found and kept. 💔 She inherited hoarding from her mom and hers got worse because she didn’t know why she was doing it.

What killed me was the " it's 38 degrees the hottest day in Britain" I am South African and that is like every other day in summer it can reach like 44 degrees in the shade some days ....
I thought so too, living in Israel, but then I went to Europe and it was like 25C in Poland, and I woke up in a puddle of my own sweat. Because they have much lower temperatures over there, they build their houses to retain heat and so 36C is like a sauna in these houses, whereas in Israel and Africa the walls are much thinner and if we get a little rain we cry about freezing to death. Lol
@@marialiyubman Yes, and it's what you get used to as well, plus whether it's a dry or humid heat. Here it gets hot in Summer, but it's mostly a dry heat. Not good for gardens and animals, but makes it easier for us to bear. I'd rather put up with a dry 45C, than a humid 35C
In the states it also easily reaches 38-40 degrees but also with 100% humidity.. especially down south. It is miserable to say the least! I’m glad we have air conditioning !!
As an American, I had to google all these temps. It's been a hot summer of 98-105 degrees here in Colorado, which is 37-41 C. I've lived further west and experienced 115 degrees, or 46 C. Heather is amazing. She understands the dilemma. I'm going to compare it with a problem I had. My husband was diagnosed with early Alzheimer's when he was 69 years old. We had been married 20 years he was 21 years older than me. It just happened that he had a lot of vacation and we were at a grocery store driving home and he drove me to the first apartment we ever lived in and when I asked him why I was strapped in the car he grabbed me by the head and I had just had neck surgery and started slamming my head into the glass passenger side window. Naturally I thought he had a stroke of some kind. MRI later said early on set Alzheimer's the tangles were already there. I'm getting to my point. Trying to force an Alzheimer's patient is the equivalent of trying to force a hoarder. The old saying you get further with honey than you do with vinegar. I learned really fast that arguing with him telling him he was wrong was just going to make him become more stubborn. With Alzheimer's patients you have to redirect them. With orders I guess because I'm not one and I really have never known one it's the same process you have to get around the fact that they don't understand what they're doing. Out of all of these episodes I've watched she has been amazing. Getting into a screaming match is not going to do anything but upset him but the fur up on the hoarders back and they are going to dig in. Just like screaming at an Alzheimer's patient.
I've watched a ton of these shows on hoarding and the one thing I think these people really need to acknowledge is that THEY have done it THEMSELVES. They always seem to behave as if it all happened on its own and when it all gets cleaned up by magic they still haven't dealt with the fact that they caused it and its obvious it will happen again.
If someone is depressed would you say “they did by themselves TO themselves”? Hoarding comes as a result of trauma/loss/depression. It is the outer manifestation of a mental dis-regulation. The mental condition needs to be treated. It’s like pus in a wound; when the wound is cleaned the pus disappears.
@@youtubefaves6365 they have not given themselves the disorder but they have accumulated all the mess themselves, which is what they need to acknowledge.
Right, it usually comes from some kind of trauma. Trauma itself comes from someone else who doesn’t have your best interests at heart. A carjacking, the death of a loved one, all beyond your control. Then others come in and want to consume control and want to assume control based on what THEY think is best for you. It’s mostly a fear based tactic.
As someone who’s close to a hoarder, it’s almost impossible to try and get them to change and get rid of their stuff. They need professional help but you can’t force that on someone, they have to want to change. If they’re not ready for that there’s really nothing you can do. The hoarder I know had a house fire that destroyed basically everything and he was actually relieved to make a fresh start at a new apartment, but a year later the new place was just as bad as the old one. It just goes to show that if you don’t deal with the psychological part of it, nothing will change.

Umm because he’s 81? There’s lots, and lots of older people who are still mobile, and living a good life. Different cultures are that way. My grandmother turns 104 this year. She goes to the gym everyday. Walks without assistance, keeps up with what’s going on in the world, and plays the stock market. She’s as sharp as a tack, and awesome to hang out with.
On the contrary I am a minimalist 😁 if I buy anything, within a year I am giving it away. I hate being anker’d by things. The worst thing people can do is give me gifts, i rather get chocolate 🍫
Well they have biscuits that expired 4 years ago and news papers from several prime minister ago. Most of the stuff often isn't even that expensive, it's juts cheap trash they just keep. Empty biscuit tins can be used for something and the boxes the things they do buy can be reused in case they need to move or something so it has to be kept. Then they never come up with the new use for their trash like wine bottle corks or marmalade jars. When you keep at it for a few decades you collect a lot of stuff.
Hoarders lie both to others and themselves. Jake told the fire inspector he would make a safer place and then moved some papers a few inches over and put water in a leaking bucket. Man is an egotistical nutter.
I was never exposed to a hoarder until I got married and met my husbands younger brother. I know this is an illness, however I can't handle any of it. Strange as it is my BIL is on his 7th wife and they have all been hoarders as well. Thankfully there were never any children just MANY dogs & cats living in the home...I'll say no more.
They must take his dog. He is unfit to take care of it! Where is the nhs? Jake and the father and the son are disturbed and need to be moved. That fire inspector is a total idiot if he really believe he is going to change.
This is a case of extreme danger, not only for the guy who is causing the problem but his poor neighbours that are exposed to the risks that he is presenting. There are some cases where the hoarder needs to be removed to a care facility. When they are putting others in danger, that is the time.
I strongly suggest that u do a complete makeover, including the compound and garden. It doesn't look good to have weeds all around especially around the front door.

@@Ytdeletesallmycomments that's a new one
But why did it just say jake was 81? Cause I swear he doesn’t look 81! Totally thought maybe like 50 , he’s got great skin, and tons of energy! 🎉
Umm because he’s 81? There’s lots, and lots of older people who are still mobile, and living a good life. Different cultures are that way. My grandmother turns 104 this year. She goes to the gym everyday. Walks without assistance, keeps up with what’s going on in the world, and plays the stock market. She’s as sharp as a tack, and awesome to hang out with.
sure makes it easier to change the ceiling light bulbs!! LOL
Robin Williams could have played Jake in a movie. I’m not being funny- I can actually see it could have worked.
I don't understand why they bother to clean the fridge. Can it ever REALLY be clean again? Get a new one!
Two reasons.
1: Not everyone can afford to just go buy a new one.
2: Providing they’re not broken, when cleaned, a fridge looks like new again.
So sad she passed away.
On the contrary I am a minimalist 😁 if I buy anything, within a year I am giving it away. I hate being anker’d by things. The worst thing people can do is give me gifts, i rather get chocolate 🍫
@Stella's Mum this is the way 👏👏👏 when we die we can’t take anything with us anyway. My belongings would fit in say 4-6 boxes 📦 😆
where do they get the money to buy all these? none of them look particulary wealthy...
Jake is 81😳 he looks damn good
I know! He has a great and colourful head of hair still
He’s got his facilities in order , pretty sharp. Also a great head of hair❤️
I agree, it's bad enough he's doing this to himself...
This is a case of extreme danger, not only for the guy who is causing the problem but his poor neighbours that are exposed to the risks that he is presenting. There are some cases where the hoarder needs to be removed to a care facility. When they are putting others in danger, that is the time.
Adult social care has been decimated by austerity measures . There's only enough staff and money to deal with the most serious cases.
"It could be worse"
No sweetheart.. no it oouldn't..
Oh my lord, those two ladies not wearing longer gloves or a suit to protect them better in that house 😭
she said it could be worse. no it couldn't.
Those roses are beautiful though
I have to go clean my house now.
So she sits outside while they clean. She had no problem brining all this stuff in her home on a bus carrying it with her hands.
I love these cleaning Divas!!
What is the point living worse than any animal? How can that give anyone satisfaction?
That’s an absolute disaster
How could it possibly be any worse?
It is not just hoarding, but the total absence of hygiene and basic cleanliness.
"could be worse"... Hmm not really. Poor lady, she don't remember what it's like to be able to enter her house walking...
I am pretty sure it could always be worse.
What wonderful women!!!!!!!
Do they not have a team to help each person? This seems like a documentary rather than a transformation kind of show
I'll take the converse
Susan's house is covered with siding. I don't think I've ever seen that it Britain. It looks like an American house.
Why didn’t they help heathers dad??? Where’s his cleanup!??
I strongly suggest that u do a complete makeover, including the compound and garden. It doesn't look good to have weeds all around especially around the front door.
