    I’m diagnosed with Autism...
I cannot read allowed, I physically get weepy and yawn while trying to read allowed... my eyes water, ... I miss words, my focus skews and was fitted with glasses.
Told I was dyslexic, and pushed in to learning problem classes. Yet, told I was too advanced and left in limbo.
It still affects me to this day.

I have this problem, but I’ve read around 600 books (for pleasure) in my lifetime... it is very slow going though, and I’ve always been embarrassed about how slow I read, and how I have a hard time understanding what I’m reading most of the time. I also skip a lot and instantly feel tired... never knew this was an actual thing!

I have this same problem but takes me about an hour or so of reading before I start to feel sleepy. Also, I tend to reread sentences just to make sure I got the point. It's really annoying when sometimes I spend hours just to read 30 pages.

Hey, the same thing for me. There's always a ton of words I don't understand, but I keep reading anyways and the main concept still sticks. But I'm having trouble continuing to read. I need to take many breaks, and that's problematic.

I'm 35 and I'm trying to read a book series that I'm really into. However, I'm 10 pages in and I can't keep my eyes open. I feel drunk tired. This doesn't happen when I read for work or school. I just graduated college with honors and don't have these issues unless I read for pleasure.

I can read fast if its fiction because its more forgiving of skim reading. For nonfiction, when you have to read each word to get the full picture, i get distracted, i forget what i read, i reread sentences over and over again. I try to just power through and ask myself what i read after i finish a paragraph and i have no idea. I shifted my whole academic career to center math probably because of it. Recently got diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. Which makes sense, but still no progress on the reading front.

And just not focusing, and i'm gonna be honest, it sometimes feels like im fighting my eyes for them to be still just to read. I tried searching stuff up for help, i don't really know if this is the correct one for me. But i think this can help many others in need. If anyone has reccomendations, tell me.

Try reading in a lower light environment. If you start to find success than look into Irlen Syndrome. Basically, light makes the brain work harder and Irlen filters filter out the negative light.

sometimes I see a shadow on words. It's not really there. I have astigmatism I know that for sure. I can't drive because I can't gauge distance. I love reading but I can't focus on it. I skip lines, I see things double up. I don't understand what I just read. Yet if someone reads it to me I got it. Occasionally I ask a question but for the most part, I understand without question right away. I've started annotating books I try to read. It keeps me motivated and if I start skipping lines or lose my place I can normally remember my annotations or quickly glance at them and remember what was going on. I got glasses that have a prisim in them and that helped for a maybe a year and now I'm back to not being able to see things correctly again. I live in wisconsin and I don't make a lot of money, I have badger care insurance. Normally pays for a visit and not my glasses. I don't know if I could even make it to Iowa. Since I don't drive. If you're ever in the Fond du Lac area I hope you let me know. I don't know if I have add or adhd or a learning disability. I was bullied a lot as a kid and I became too afraid to learn things because of it. Teachers said I was easily distracted which I am. I try not to be but I'm normally focused on my work tasks. I get things done usually quickly. I've had other people tell me they have worked with children before who have disabilities and that they could help me with previous employment. I let them because I didn't know what else to say to that, but it made me feel slow and a little stupid. I don't like using that word but when enough people say something is wrong with you you just tend to believe it sadly. Later on that same person said I was bright and went on to praise me like they never said it to begin with. I know they meant it to show me they were patient but it came off as manipulative. I don't know if I'm slow. I don't know what to really do. I just know I really want to read and see things the way it's suppose to be seen.

It sounds like you may have ocular lock. It usually only takes 2-3 treatments to reverse it. If you live in USA, you can go to www.icakusa.com, click on "find a doctor" and find someone who has been trained to fix this. If you live outside USA, you can go to www.icak.com and possible find someone in your country who's near enough.
