  • Electroplating is a complex process with a lot of toxins that have to be carefully filtered. The process is used heavily for computer parts, and this tour of a factory in Taiwan shows it.

    Electroplating is used in parts made all over the world and in many industries. Nickel is the most common, but gold-plating is also done in this factory (and other metals). This factory plates all kinds of products, including seat belt buckles (also heat treated for strength), pen clips and buttons, heatsink coldplates, computer case components, scuba diving gear, and more, but that's what we saw getting plated while visiting. The factory is located in northern Taiwan and is used by computer case maker Lian Li, who connected us with the factory for the tour and aided in translation. If you've ever wondered what electroplating, nickel-plating, or gold-plating is, this factory tour will give a better understanding of those processes.

      You count multiple times the different ways to apply paint/ protective coating on parts.
      How ever I think you didn't mention powder coating. Is it uncommon?

    Filtration is really only the separation of a solid and a fluid. It would be more correct to simply call the process water treatment. Filtration is certainly a part of that but so are sedimentation, precipitation and (probably) coagulation/flocculation.

  • @namgnol
    @namgnol 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Most of their filter equipment look similar to our effluent at work for out pretreatment. (Australian aluminium power coating place). the ploymer tank seems similar to our floc tank that an additive goes in to make solids sink.

    • @Irodu
      @Irodu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I work in a factory, in the states, that does anodizing and electroplating and in our water treatment process we use floc and polymer interchangeably in reference to the same thing. Their setup in this video is a little more elaborate than ours but it is virtually the same exact process.

    This is so cool to see this stuff. I live in Youngstown, Ohio, United States and my town before I was even born was know for making steel from these huge steel mills all across our main local river, since they didn't have the same system as described in the video I just watched, that river is the most polluted river EVER! It would probably take billions... if not TRILLIONS of dollars to get it clean again. One thing I don't understand is if they area at one point made so much money from these types of Mills then why couldn't they invest in filtration systems like this I just saw? It's not fair that I live in an area that doesn't have much of anything.

    Aside from the difference in labor costs, do you see any reason these things you cover in your factory tour series couldn’t be moved to being done primarily in the US?

    • @Irodu
      @Irodu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I work in a factory that does anodizing and electroplating as part of our auto manufacturing process in Ohio. Not really, no. It can easily be done here but the reason it is likely done there is due to proximity of the manufacturing of the parts, assuming the electroplating isn't done at the factory making the parts themselves. Depending on where the parts are made and where they need to be shipped to after the plating process it is simply an issue of logistics and cost.
