  • Restoration UNDERWAY!! Last video I installed the new flooring! Since then I did my fiberglass tabbing around all my seams. This video I cut holes in my band new floor and backfill the cavities with a 2 part marine foam made by Totalboat. Awesome stuff but kind of scary! FINALLY all the hard work is coming together. This was a huge step in this process. Thank you all for the support!

    Top tip to prevent wood ripping when drilling, run the drill backward for the start of the hole, then drill as normal.
    Works a treat in any wood, especially in ply. 👍

    I made my Starflite 21 and I only raised the bow, I made a hole on each side and the foam expanded to the front where I made the hole, it was easier for me because they are stringers along the length and not across

    Hope you are still responding to questions on this old video. I have the EXACT same boat, and have begun a very similar process, and this video has really been incredibly helpful. I've already gotten in touch with Total Boat, and they are indeed a great company to work with. My main goals were to get rid of the awful carpeting and put down some durable decking liner paint, and to replace the seat boxes with pedestal chairs. I got lucky and found no rot when inspecting my flooring, and because I don't want to make this project crazy huge (i'd like to be back out on the water this spring/summer), my plan was to cut the boxes down to about 4" off the deck, install laminated lumber for a solid platform for the seats, and then cap with plywood and glass over, much as you did. It would be nice to have a totally flat floor but I can live with small rises and i'll still have much more room with those boxes removed. Okay, so FINALLY onto my question. I've researched whether or not it is structurally okay to remove the seat boxes, and the internet forums are giving me different answers. Some say to go ahead and do it, plenty of people have done it before, and others say that because they are glassed into the hull on the sides they are important to the structural integrity of the boat. So I figured i'd ask someone who has actually done this on my same boat. Did you do any research on this yourself, and more importantly how are things holding up after your modifications? Lastly, is there anything you wish you would have done differently that you would like to share with someone who has just embarked on a very similar project? Thanks in advance to any/all advice. Sail on, sailor!

    Purple foam boards from Lowes or Home Depot . Buy the name brand ones . They actually seem to work way better . A hull full of ping pong balls would work better than that foam . Hundreds of videos on youtube where that stuff has failed , absorbed water , broken down and screwed up the bilge pump with the mess .

    This won't improve the "flotation' of this boat , you have just displased the air in the cavity and replaced it with slightly heavier foam , so you've added a few kilos of weight and the boat will be slightly lower in the water . You will have added to the strenggth of the boat , but it looks pretty sturdy anyway.

  • @luiscardozo0000
    @luiscardozo0000 หลายเดือนก่อน

    no need to do it with holes you can do it before to install the plywood ...the foam dont need to be under pressure

  • @oday3514
    @oday3514 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you had simply waited for the foam to expand to reach the bottom of the hole, then dropped the pucks in the hole of the cavities that you didn't overfill as the foam came up, then you could have used your block to hold the puck and saved yourself the time spent with the chisel.
