Thanks so much for letting me hike with you taylor! And thanks for making sure the bad leg made it up and down the mountain in that nasty weather with those great winter hiking tips! Hopefully next time we’ll get a view! Haha
Love Adam Hoyt; so great to see you guys hiking together! Would love to see more in the future. Taylor, I also wanted to thank you for being so nice when my husband and I came to your store the last week of October. We were visiting from NJ, and you were so gracious to take a picture with me. Also picked up great stuff in your store. So many things to choose from! Can't wait to go back again.
Wow a new mountain in the whites to climb, cool!!!! HYDRATION, not talked about enough, climbed Moosilauke and both legs locked up from lack of electrolytes 1000 ft from the summit and had to turn around in a great deal of pain. Good to see and hear good solid feedback on mistakes made while climbing, new hikers need to hear and heed this advice, makes for a better and safer hiking experience, thanks again for sharing, nice job.
Thanks Taylor. I’m also a year round hiker and my tip is to pack out lukewarm water. I found out the hard way years ago when my water froze after only being out for just over an hour. Crazy how quickly it freezes in cold 🥶 temps. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
You can definitely sweat like crazy winter hiking if you're overdressed. Be sure to start stripping off layers (wardrobe change) as soon as you start to warm up, so you don't get your base layers wet. Get all sweaty and you're in trouble once you hit the wind above tree line. Mittens work better then gloves to keep your hands warm.
Winter hiking has its perks...no bugs or snakes and you aren't sweating to death. As long as you layer properly and plan accordingly, its great! Love the shorter hair Taylor!
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker the view was definitely better than your view in this video! Have you done Magalloway yet? I'm working on 52 WAV and that's probably next on my list.
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker I know! I've only been to Pittsburg once, it was a haul. Beautiful area though. I'm down to 4 hikes left on the 52 list so I might make the trek next week when I'm on vacation. Hopefully you'll beat me to it and post a video from up there lol.
Two of my favorite NH Hiking vloggers! You definitely need to make another trip up Percy Peaks, the view is phenomenal. And while you’re there, go up the road a few miles and bag Sugarloaf!
Taylor…thanks again for sharing. As an avid winter hiker my suggestion for those who want to hike during the colder months where trails may be ice covered or where your exposed and the trail ahead of you is iced…12 point crampons are the go to piece of equipment to have with you. It will open many trails where you easily and safely traverse the conditions during icy conditions. You should be able to find a pair easily in the $125-$140 price range…some may find this steep, but think these will likely last you a life time, so a good investment when attempting those trails/hikes where ice may otherwise you to turn back.
A month ago I was on top of Mt Tecumseh and it snowed. I got a white out for views just like you. Only at the top though. The rest of the way up was clear and beautiful. That's the nature of the Whites it seams. The summits are cloud magnets.
Thanks for letting me learn from your mistakes. Going to get some spikes before I leave for GA in late winter. Doing the AT all the way to ME. I love New England but I hate living here especially near Boston
Hiking in New England must be a great experience with the cold weather and mountain views. Not too much of that here in southern Louisiana. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the useful tips, although I would add another that you inadvertantly demonstrated - don't get your hair wet on a winter hike, even if you feel hot and want to cool off by removing a hat. Maybe on a day hike it's not such a big problem, but if it's an overnighter, wet hair, especially if it's long and thick, can chill you when you stop moving.
Just discovered your channel. Love your content. Last week I was hiking in the Adirondacks. It was my first cold weather hike and I noticed the cold was playing havoc with my cell phone showing that the battery was almost at zero at one point. Consequently I powered it off and wasn't able to take any more photos during the hike. When I got back to my hotel room and plugged it to the charger, it was showing 75%. Have you encountered this problem and if so, what is a good way to address it? Thanks!
…while winter traction is super important (Kahtoolas are the best) choosing the proper footwear for winter adventures is even more important. As a professional guide I see people out in the winter with three season footwear.
Did Adam have surgery? I injured my knee a yr ago so I can’t do too much hiking. I have backpacked but I have to take Motrin and tramadol for me to. do it. kind of made a little 😞
I'm currently going through physical therapy following my ACL repair surgery back in August. Just starting to feel good enough to get back out there and was so happy Taylor could be there to help me do that safely!
I did Percy Peaks last month and loved it. Then did Sugarloaf that same afternoon and it was less fun. Just a LONG slog. But we loved Percy Peaks for sure.

You are a generous and kind person to always offer such well thought through information, lessons, and mistakes, plus enthusiastic about it.
Wow Adam's got quite the knee brace. Such a trooper.
Thanks! She’s the real trooper for helping me up and down! It was nice to stretch the ole leg!
Looks like ACL knee brace , be well

I needed this. I'm planning a few short winter hikes to get a feel for it.
I hiked North Percy Peak a couple months ago, I love that mountain.
Hopefully you had a better view!

Great points especially about staying hydrated. When we're cold we tend to think more about that than getting water and electrolytes.
Again, thanks for sharing the good and the bad of your hikes. Great information. Stay safe and HIKE ON!!!
Another terrific hike Taylor!
Well that looks like a nice hike, and yes the weather is changing, Hiked this morning and it was 25° Time for the bigger pack have fun and stay safe.

Adam Hoyt! Love his videos. Fun that you got some snow at the summit.
Thanks! Was so happy taylor helped me get one of my first hikes in post surgery!
I have been waiting for an Adam and Taylor hike!! Thanks for the great video!! Hope that knee heals up quick!
Thank you! This was some great physical therapy haha.

I look across the Connecticut River toward Percy from my house. A wonderful hike and especially when the blueberries are ripe.
I find most people overdress to start and have to stop to take off too many layers. Be bold start cold!
Yup! Unless in this case where I was cold the whole time haha

Monroe and Washington as a first winter hike? That's pretty hardcore!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Thanx coach

Thanks for sharing. I'm trying to get as much info as I can. Don't want to have bad experiences when starting to hike AT 70.
Wow you guys are brave doing those peaks in that weather! I did north on a clear day and I was still a little freaked out. 😂 great tips!
Looks pretty steep, definitely would need trekking poles for that one!
Those would definitely help!
I love the LMNT packs, taste great and they work !
So good!!

i know about layering but the frogg toggs are a good shell layer?
I placed my order. Thank you
That's awesome!! Thanks
Wow, just north of myself in Northumberland.

My worlds are colliding! I am sure hiking together is "a walk in the park" but was it still "uphill both ways"?
OO any hike is uphill both ways these days with this knee brace lol 😂
