I mentioned cooking squirrels and gravy in a staff meeting once and almost got voted off the property. The pictures of my bucks on my bulletin board enraged the college kids too. Thank the Lord that you two raised a daughter properly. Good video Jeff.
It really is Sad. I’m cooking some Squirrels now. Last batch before the Start of 2022/23 Season. Most Folks have NO IDEA of what they are missing. Squirrel and Gravy is a Delicacy. One Admission. I’m 63 years old and STILL eat the Brains:)
My dad was from South Alabama and this reminds me so much of him. He could cook up some delicious snapping turtle also. I haven't eaten anything like this in many years, sure do miss it.
"...teeth hanging out of the pot, but damn they were good!" Now there's a sentence you don't hear every day! LMAO - This guy is SO REAL! How refreshing!!!!!!! Damn I needed that! Lol
Good thing that crock pot is in Camo !! If Hannah comes in and finds that pot of meat n gravy, and tears it up, Old Jeff comes in, He gonna be One Mad Dad !!! . . . . . excellent video, thanx , Hey from Ohio
My children are in their late forties now. I had my first squirrel when two oldest were one and two. We lived on the Cheyenne River Valley in North Dakota at the time. Everyday when I came home from feeding the cattle, I have squirrels running across the road from the cornfield so I popped a couple. Did not have a recipe for squirrel, so just Brown the carcass hole and then roasted it like a turkey or a plucked pheasant. That's what it actually tastes like to me was roast pheasant. Make brown gravy from the drippings in the roaster, that was delicious. When I watched you cooking them my mouth was watering the whole time. Time to start making some lunch. Thanks again for the videos I love your food prep videos. I don't know if I would be able to wait all day for the finished product.
Oh my Lord! This reminds me of Grammy’s slow-cookin all the wild meat we’d bring home to her. Squirrels Rabbits Venison Woodchuck Suckerfish She always told us boys not to pass up a chance to kill any critters, that if we’d bring it to her she’d clean and cook it. And she always had some kinda bread, her StickyBuns were the best oozing with her special syrup. Man I miss her cookin! Appreciate y’all Jeff❗️ 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Chicken of the tree,, I love squrrels 😋, I used to pop one in the edge of the yard & fix it for my doberman girl 😝✌️, she loved em & would not leave my side through the whole cleaning & cooking process ✌️, squirrel & rice is good ❤️✌️MAN,, that looks delicious 😋✌️
Love squirrels cooked this way, hard to beat. Other way I love them is to pressure cook them in chicken broth, need to pick bones on big tray (not fun buy hey) then add veggies to the stock and thicken a bit, make squirrel pot pies from them, I prefer smaller ones, individual size.. eat some and freeze some for later depending on how much and who is eating, LOL God Bless
Your doing a Great service Jeff, for many years to come these videos will educate the young people as to how people have cooked for generations. Squirrels are really good, and Rabbits are the best, I would rather have a fried fat rabbit the a filet mignon . Take care. Peace.
I remember growing up hunting in Ark with my Dad and his brothers, taking squirrels back and my grandmother and she would fry up the meat and make gravy and biscuits .
Jeff you got my mouth watering from just watching you cook it!! Haven't tried it your way but you won me over with the biscuits n gravy all by itself!! Adding the squirrel for me is like putting "icing" on the cake!!! I made a marinade for the squirrel after quartering the little buggers which you could also do right after thawing them out & just before quartering them .. involves marinading them as long as you want (from 30 min to overnight whatever you choose) in a mixture of soy sauce, wash-your-shister sauce (how I remember to 'say' it!! LOL🤣), garlic salt (probably won't have to add it later?), chopped onion, brown sugar, & that's all I can remember putting 'in' it, I'll leave the amounts of everything out so you can custom flavor it to your liking (pretty much the same way I normally add stuff & taste it as I go when creating. I "DO" have a final 'amounts' recipe on my other computer I could look up for you that worked out perfect for 3 squirrels that I wrote down and put in my recipe files on my older computer. But it's just as easy to taste & adjust as you go!! What I came up with makes me want to eat squirrel more the the fanciest steak out there for sure!!! If you want the amouts for the recipe, just reply to my comment & I'll find it for you!! Your BIGGEST fan & Minnesota Man too Greg Leonard 💜💗💜💗💜 👍👍
The bit about the squirrel brains made me smile, would make a great Halloween dinner, head teeth an all. Squirrels are few and far between out here so its great to see what yall do with them.
Jeff when you mentioned about leaving the heads on it instantly took me back to my younger days. My grandpaw use to do the same thing. You’d open the fridge and see a bowl of squirrels looking back at you it would scare you to death! Lol
Mmm Mmm! That looks delicious! I bet I could eat all of that by myself. The only thing I'd do different is add more garlic. That'd go good on rice, pasta, biscuits...an old army boot. Preciate ya sharing that Mr Jeff.
I grew up in North Mississippi in the Delta... My grandfather was a Epic Southern cook... he always made homemade squirrel dumplings and they were delicious.... Huge fox squirrels
I have always said my favorite wild game was turtle and squirrel myself and I've ate a lot of different critters love your cookin shows keep up the good work

Love squerill and gravy…I add a little onion to mine as well as a dash of Worcester Sauce…all good stuff … you do a nice job and I’ve learned a trick from you in terms of adding everything to the beef broth…I add beef bouillon to the pan I fry in along w water…looks great 👍❤️
@@jerryriginil7698 we eat the tree rats tho before they eat up the chicken corn. Had part of two of them the other day in a mulligan and boy it was good.
