What a damn genius that Johann Sebastian Bach was, giving so much material for today’s geniuses to thrive upon.
Yes, Bach was the greatest composer of all time, but he didn’t write this tune. It was written by Hans Leo Haßler as a secular song and later converted into a church song by Paul Gerhardt, a protestant.
His music is literally the building blocks of western music as we hear it today.

When Leah goes to the low harmony in the last verse it was divine. I smiled and related when you see her realize she is not "done," and still had to sing the outtro. 2:43

Actually Bach wrote the melody. It's from St Matthew's Passion.

Absolutely, totally agree. He plays 25 instruments. He picked up a guitar at the age of 13 by the time he was 15-16 he was wowing the internet. He is a prodigy for sure. I can’t wait until he starts touring again. I am sure he can’t either. 😎

This haunts me.. I come back over and over. I am at once soothed and unsettled. Then this takes days to leave my head every quiet moment. What a song Paul wrote, but man you master it.
Whenever I had a Josh-Turner-frenzy and binged a ton of his videos, THIS HERE is always the one I come to at the end. It is very cleansing (apart from beatiful). The Bach-guitar, the special song and the very pure voices of Josh and Leah are just a combination is seem not to get tired of. Thank you!

Every time I watch a video of Josh’s I think, how can he be so talented and how could he ever be any better than this...and he always is. This rendition of a beautiful song, brought it to heights at which only Angels can fly. Leah’s voice is of an Angel, and I felt a deep and sacred beauty in this recording. Wonderful beyond my feeble words.

Just revisited this track, as I do with so many of Josh's offerings, and had a good relisten to that incredible fusion of Bach and Paul Simon, with Leah's amazing voice - this is the work of a musical genius, who deserves to be much more appreciated than just on here.

Every time I watch one of Josh's videos I'm in awe at how talented he is, and the wonderful people he surrounds himself with make me smile.
This by far my most favorite Paul Simon song because of its lyrical content.It could have been written for the tragic event of 911, or any tragedy. But it's time is very reminiscent of a Bach signature. I have tried learning to play this song but the chord changes are difficult for my playing..maybe someday I will get it down.If anyone thinks Paul Simon is just your everyday person on guitar,think again.Thanks again Josh Turner,splendid.
This is one of a few from his solo career that I can't help thinking would have been a natural for S&G. This duet perfectly captures how it might have worked for them.
They recorded it at the Central Park, in a live Concert, in the early eighties. There is a nice album that contains S&G version of this beautiful Tune.
They actually performed it together several times since they stopped working together. Art Garfunkel has said that he wished it had been written before they split.

I've known both the Paul Simon song and the Bach chorale for decades but never made the connection until now. Leah's church-choir vocalization completes the package.

I love the Bach harmonization - such a wonderful blend classic to new. That's why it's timeless. Josh, I love that you keep refining, searching and exploring the possibilities because that is what the "gift" is all about, to keep giving. And having Leah accompany on this is a wise choice with her angelic voice.

For those that wonder how they can do this, notice, they both can sight read music and that alone means they are way deeper into music than just watching videos on you tube... :) Go learn how music came to be as far back in centuries as you can and then you will really see how this unlocks so much more for you today and forever, going forward..
There are some great Masters of music in the 17th century that did things that are not even able to be done today..

The second half of this song makes me cry....'The Statue of Liberty sailing out to sea...you can't be forever blessed...this is the perfect song for today's time.

I didn't know that an electric guitar, like the telecaster, could be played in this manner. It is unique I believe. Usually, this type of music is played on an acoustic. Tremendous, just tremendous.
