Simon;s cat usually makes me laugh, but it's hard not to feel sorry for this little dog.
This goes for cats as well - my 3 rescue boyz all had the habit of begging, but they quickly learned that no means no. They are healthy active cats, and we work to keep them that way by only giving them good quality food, in moderation, treats only occasionally, and when they aren't playing with each other we stir them up with a variety of toys. Merry Christmas all!

I know this is a good balance of humour and warning but for the festive season, all cat owners and dog owners (dogs especially) please be aware that garlic, onions, anything in that family, are highly toxic to cats and dogs but ESPECIALLY Dogs. It's not entirely known what is toxic, and the time scale can range thus:
feed your dog an onion every day for ten years or give your dog a crisp with a small amount of onion powder once in a lifetime, they can cause the same toxic effects. It's a gamble not worth taking. What happens is the red blood cells can break down and cause hemolytic anaemia which can cause irreversible kidney damage. The damage to the red blood cells caused by onions and garlic generally doesn’t become apparent until three to five days after a dog eats these vegetables. Affected dogs may seem weak or reluctant to move, or they may appear to tire easily after mild exercise. Their urine may be orange-tinged to dark red in color. These dogs should be examined by a veterinarian immediately. In severe cases, blood transfusions may be needed.
So please be careful of gravy's or stuffings etc.
Foods to avoid (even if you say "oh my dog eats them all the time and is fine" - great - you dodged a bullet - it's not worth the gamble) are: onions, garlic, shallots, chives, anything in that oniony family. Take away foods - not just because of obesity etc etc but MSG in some dogs can have toxic effects. Raisins and Currants can also cause irreversible kidney damage so watch out for puddings or seasonal breads. Avacado, hops, uncooked bread dough, macadamia nuts and Xylitol (artificial sweetener mainly found in yoghurt, gummies, toothpaste etc)

Also cat owners - CATS ARE LACTOSE INTOLERANT, dairy products can be very harmful. If you want to give them milk, give them goats milk. No ice cream, no cheese, no custard,

I guess it's a stupid question and the answer is the way we're built in comparison to other animals, say dogs, but what about us is different? Hm...
Your friends cat probably suffers stomach aches through the night. Later in life the cat could develop bowel problems. Cats are lactose intolerant - all of them - their bowels cannot handle lactose. Animals don't naturally drink other animals milk. If they must have milk then goats milk is lactose free.
As for your question of why do animals eat differently etc - cats and dogs are staple carnivores. Their bodies are not built to break down the toxins and enzymes in certain foods they would never go near in the wild. the same as if we brought down a deer and ate it raw straight from the ground we'd have a fair amount of tummy ache. Cats and dogs eat things that are either poisonous or have no effect of us - catnip for instance. It only affects cats because cats have a gene that accesses the active ingredient - not all cats though. If you get a generation line of cats whose predecessor never had catnip, they will have either a very weak or no gene. All animals are different - that's how nature works - if we all ate the same, there'd be no earth left. Men and women need different amounts of vitamins and minerals, different races of the same species need different diets.

I try to never feed my dog at the table, if I give him any table scraps it's always after we have all left the table. Dogs are natural born scavengers, some WILL eat themselves to death if you let them. As far as begging goes, train them to wait and sit still with treats early on. Condition them to expect food at regular times each day.

I have 2 very large golden retrievers. I feed my dogs first and let them out after dinner to get some air in a fenced back yard. That's when I feed my human family (2 daughters) so the dogs don't feel the need to beg.
After dinner they come back inside and go straight to their sleeping/resting area. They don't roam the house at all. If they do it means they need a potty break. Right now, they are napping at my feet. It all depends on how well trained your fur family is.

I just adopted a 3 month lab/pointer blend and shes still not used to routine and wanders the house. She is just like a child. If she is too quiet, there is no doubt she is either napping or doing something bad.
+Celine Quintanilla I wish my dog was like that. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and it's getting cold out so I can't leave my dog alone outside. He was also caged in with other dogs, and basically had to fight for his own food before I adopted him.
Miyu Smith he will have to get used to a new routine. Its taking my pup a while but she now has learned boundaries and not to jump up on us whilr we are eating.

This is really cute and has a really good message. I have two dogs and we alway feed them healthy foods and play with them and take them on walks to keep them healthy and happy. I love my dogs and this is just adorable. I would love to see more of this dog in the future, but your cat animations are just as epic and fun to watch

My dog buttercup used to be extremely greedy as fuck. She would never eat any kind of dog food. Then we got my Aunt's dog Sandy after she sadly passed and when we got Sandy that poor dog was so overweight it wasn't funny. Now though since she gets regular meal times and gets to actually go outside and run around she's lost so much weight she can jump on the couch and run around for hours without getting tired. And with her around Buttercup eats regular dog food.

As much as I love my dogs, I don't like to give them table scraps. It gives them horrendous gas. It doesn't mean I won't occasionally splurge and get them some nice cow or deer bones, but I prefer to keep their diet pretty strict.

This is the exact opposite of the issue I have with my dog. She's a tiny toy poodle that refuses to do more than eat like a bird but still run around like crazy. I've been trying to fatten her up to no avail.

We have a dog who only appears AFTER a meal, and sits in one particular chair. She doesn't try to eat anything; she just sits there and looks around the room, then goes on our windowsill to 'guard' again.

I've conditioned mine to turn away from scraps. We used to feed her table scraps until we noticed she was getting heavier and now we don't... i mean if you really cared about your dog you wouldn't feed them food that could cause problems. Or make them unhealthy in weight or other means.

This is why you should feed your dog it’s dinner shortly before you eat or at the same time. It fills the dog up and reduces the likelihood it will beg incessantly. Granted, it won’t work for all dogs; some dogs may have to be trained to leave their humans alone at meal times. My family once had a labrador who was taught to lay in the living room, where it joined the kitchen while we ate. She wasn’t allowed to get up and enter the kitchen, but she still tried to come in and beg. We’d just nonchalantly escort her back to her place and tell her to stay. And she was usually happy to until we were done eating.
This never gets old!!! LOL

Cats can be too, but they at least walk away eventually when they had enough for the time being and *then* come back for more.
That's not entirely true though...they're individuals, just like people, and some dogs will eat anything while others are very picky and won't eat more than they feel needed. Same with cats, there are PLENTY of fat cats and dogs because humans allow them to overeat and the animals WANT to.

One thing that makes me really pissed is when people feed their cats and dogs other things than meat. Cat and dog bodies are built to eat meat(and a little plants/vegetables). So don't feed your cats and dogs things, like bread, chips or ANYTHING with fat or sugar it in.
p.s. cats are lactose intolerant.
