Fireball Mail is a great tune, one of my favourites. It’s quite simple yet incredibly catchy especially when played with Russell’s drive. Great picking and nice variations/alterations of the melody on the solos. Thanks for sharing the video!
#820006 was built during 1981 but registered on January 7 1982, the first or second working day after New Year Shutdown. This is the youngest among 81Crowe models and remained in Japan along with the second youngest 81Crowe model #820005. Serial # that these banjo had were production control # for the manufacturer. 81JD Crowe models sold in US had sales control # attached that were issued by Saga Musical Instruments I guess.
One of the first things I did when I separated from the US Army in '81, was to buy a Gold Star '81 G11HF Arch-Top at the Fifth String in San Francisco. Many miles since then with my little 5-string friend, including snapping and repairing the headstock on 3 separate occasions. Right now, it's still sounds as good as it ever was.
Bought pretty much the same banjo in 1979. It is a archtop 780261 GF100W. Had the same problem with the headstock in 1983 and repaired it myself. Been solid as a rock ever since. Great sounding banjo.
The best version and video of Fireball Mail
Russ is a fantastic banjo player...that Gold Star really rings for him! He was a pleasure to pick with.....

Surprisingly, it sounds exactly like my 81JD model. It features powerful bass and crystal metallic sound. There is nothing else that can be competed.
Hey R 3350, what number do you own?

Great banjo player and great banjos. Gold Star will always remain in my favorites. Saga makes amazing products for amazing prices.
Pray I’ll be able to pick like this one day
