Always enjoyed William Hurt in the classic 80s thriller Body Heat 1981 it's one incredible thriller/mystery. It's a must see 👀 for the one's who haven't seen it RIP William Hurt

Just stumbled onto this movie here and it's bringing back memories. 'Do Not Disturb' is my one and only encounter with the world of movies and if anyone could possibly be interested in that it might perhaps be here.
I was the stand-in for William Hurt in this movie. My girlfriend knew someone who worked on the movie while it was in production and at some point it turned out that they were looking for a stand-in for William Hurt. I later heard they kinda forgot to hier stand-ins because that wasn't all that common in the Netherlands, so they were caught off-balance and scrambe for stand-ins.
I fit the specific requirements by accident: the exact height to fit his wardrobe and available for night shoots for the next two weeks starting immediately. I had to go to the Hotel de l'Europe in the center of Amsterdam, not too far from where I live, where they were starting the first night of the outdoor shoots.
I'd never been on a movie set and if you want to be a fly on the wall you can't have a better job than being the stand-in of the lead of the movie. Extras are kept out of the way as much as possible, but I had to be near the director at all times to try stuff out. Made twice as much money as the extra's too ;-)
I rarely saw William Hurt and I never really talked to him. He was extremely unapproachable, in a very 'I will be in my trailer'-kind of way. The first time he came on set there were orders about not making eye contact with him. Perhaps he needed that for his focus, but there were also rumours that he didn't think the movie was going well - I don't know. He was certainly the only cast member with that attitude.
I did have a great time with Michael Chiklis and Jennifer Tilly, both of whom you would often just end up chatting with or having a drink with on set. Especially Chiklis enjoyed his star status and entertaining groups of people, in a very magnanimous way. He would easily find reasons to bring up The Commish, the tv show he was then famous for. Nice guy.
It was weird to have this two week night shift, cycling home in the early morning to sleep and back the next night. Got pretty close with the stand-ins for the girl and Jeniffer Tilly, spending night after night, sometimes in parked cars near the set, waiting for a call. The stand-in for the girl was really also her stunt double; a bad-ass woman small enough to pass for the girl.
Because they were spending all that money on me (price of two extras), they asked me and the Tilly stand-in to do extra work as well. So I did end up in the movie a couple of times, albeit usually out of focus or from my back. Restaurant guests, hotel lobby wanderer, man on street. I almost had my hand in close up in the movie, but they apparently didn't use the shot. When the family arrives at Schiphol Airport and they go through customs. At some point Hurt said it was enough for the day and left, and they still wanted him to do a 'hand the passport to the custom's officer' close-up. Since I was there and was dressed as him, I 'played' that scene, but alas.
I did end up playing him 'invisibly' a few times. The exterior scenes of the taxi that drives them up to the hotel? That's me sitting inside the car with the other stand-ins. I don't think you're even able to see there are people inside, period, but there we were, all dressed up as the main cast. I remember that it was a bit of a stressful moment, because they wanted to catch the 'magic hour light' for the shot, and they had to retake it a couple of times.
The scene with the tram was a very interesting shoot. It was a custom built tram that was basically a truck with a tram chassis welded on top of it. Apparently it needed to get a temporary roadworthyness licence because they had to drive it from the place it was built in Amsterdam north, through the Y-tunnel into the city center. It must have been a memorable sight for the cars in the tunnel that day.
Apart from the fact that the tram was really a truck, which is how they did the controlled derailing, it was also customised to fit the script. The way the tram becomes an obstruction that causes them to run through the tram and exit it on the other side. This is a nice idea, but it means that the vehichle needs doors on either side, which trams never do, at least, not in Amsterdam. Well, this one did. Problem solved.
I doubt anyone will get this far, but there is one more memory that goes with this story. The movie was shot in winter, and after one of my night shoot shifts I cycled home at, what, 5:30 in the morning. It had been snowing for hours, and between the set and my home I basically had to cycle through the entire old city center, that was covered in at least 10 cm of freshly fallen - and still falling - snow. It was still dark and the streetlights were on. I was the first to break the snow on every canal, and the snow was just thin enough to make cycling comfortable. The snow absorbed almost all sound and it was like the most idealised magical winter movie set you could ever imagine and I felt like I was the only one there.
The only shot in the movie I can specifically point to and say 'that's me!' is in the very last shot of the movie. As the boat turns into the canal and the helicopter goes up for the city panorama shot (that's cut off in this upload), you can just make out one guy walking towards the boat along the canal on the right. That blurry blob is me. It was surprising how much effort went into this shot. Nobody in the shot is not an extra. All the pedestrians are following a 'script'. I had to walk back to the beginning of the canal and walk the same bit three or four times. For every take, some twenty extras went back to their starting point.
The movie more or less flopped on release. Director Dick Maas, pretty famous in The Netherlands for making 'un-Dutch', fun action flicks without deep pretense, tried to break through internationally with this English language movie, that was seen as a bit of a redo of his Dutch language 'Amsterdamned', which is a bit weird, because the only comparisons are that it's set in Amsterdam and it has chase scenes in it.
I actually like the movie; there's a lot of intentional slapstick comedy that in my opinion works quite well. Some of the visual jokes are a little on the nose, like the running gag with bicycle locks, but there is something to be said that Maas' Do Not Disturb was misunderstood in a similar way as Verhoeven's movies sometimes are; a certain 'in your face' comedy gets taken literally and people missed the irony. Not saying this was anything close to Starship Troopers, but I do think it deserves some credit.
Anyway, those were the adventures of the stand in of William Hurt (uncredited, alas) in Do Not Disturb.

Fun! Never a dull moment. Silly in a cool and entertaining way, never stupid! My only issue is that there's not enough Denis Leary, he deserved more time in Amsterdam.

The all actors did well in this wonderful movie !! Some slow reflex/ reactions & unlikely unrealistic scenes caused viewers to lose patience & they left ! Too bad ! At first I was hestain to watch by this taking place in Amsterdam. I figured there would be an language issue. It ended up being an entertaining movie. Laugh when the guy's gun kept miss firing. Lol and he was a hit man. Yes it did remind me of some what of home alone.

I can't believe those parents their daughter witnessed a murder and they leave her alone in a strange hotel room will they go at the hotels restaurant to eat then when they know someones been killed and the killer is after the girl they leave her alone in the hospital after being hurt and they swan off back to their hotel , but a good action movie .
One hell of a story! Enjoyed the action. Very entertaining.

The minimization of the safety of the little girl was disturbing. Giving her a drug to sleep and leaving her alone in hotel room while they went to dinner was neglect by parents. Reminded me of the McCann case. At least there was a good ending for the little girl.
To top it off the kid is not the brightest herself 😅

Watch mystery/thrillers and ended up with a comedy 😂. Lil girl is unbelievably savvy for a 20yr old. Key word is UNbelievable😂. Writer designed an action adventure and it definitely was entertaining.

the mistakes add up to much it doesn't qualify for either; read an entire magazine and buy cigarettes and start a whole search for the kid and only 15 minutes have lapsed? Every person in Amsterdam that works there is American? It takes forever for a speaking person to call the hotel, then gets nowhere? She wanders around and ends up outsides? Yikes, my head hurts....

English is my native language and while I have a little bit of a few other languages I am lucky that English is talked in so many places.

It doesn't make sense ( for them to learn every word all differently in each country where they travel !! ) There shouldn't be language barrier when it comes to sign language ,so it'll be not only easier for 'em,but for us to communicate w 'em,too !!

This is a very entertaining and hilarious movie for the whole family to watch, if you haven't watched it yet, you will not be disappointed besides that there wasn't even one advertisement 'disturbing' the film! Interesting as the title of the movie is "Do Not Disturb"! I certainly loved it and will watch it again in time to come. 👋👋👋

There are so~many funny scenes in this movie 🎬 The man takes a leak & tourists on a boat taking pictures & he looks very proud !! Lol. The bad businessman gets a phone call from a professional killer he hired telling the parents of the little girl it was from his " contractor "!! Lol. Then the little girl Melissa calls the front desk tapping the phone like the morris code !!! LOLLOLLOL I am not sure how many times I laughed during this movie !! This child is ridiculous, she went to the restroom through a passage (hallway) and she end up going outside instead of staying inside. Even if you take a wrong turn, she should never have gone outside. Curiosity kills the cat (lunatic). Use your imagination and figure out how you got to the ladies room.

This movie was like home alone in a hotel but not half as good it has it’s funny moments though.
It's Home Alone with a better child acting. Funniest part is the end when William hurst whistles to get his childs attention, she turns and he uses sign language. Oops!
