Since you already had one heat stroke, you are more likely to get another heat related illness. You are smart listening to your body. Our heat and humidity are brutal on the body.
Yup, I grew up in AZ and was fine in 120 degree heat. Years after I left AZ I got heatstroke in 105. Since then I've been super sensitive to the heat.
One thing that's really helped is one of those frogtoggs or similar wraps that you dunk in cold water and wrap around your throat.
@JackMalarkey yes sir when I first moved to Houston, I had been working in the West Texas oilfield, and when I got here, I damn near died of heat stroke my 1st week on the job. My dad told us me we aren't in Odessa anymore. This heat here with the humidity will kill you so slow down. That's been 30 yrs ago, and I still have to be careful of this heat and humidity. That's why I took an inside job.
Yeah, I thought I was doing alright but it still got to me.
I'm really glad you noticed it early enough to avoid it from being much worse. It's unfortunate that you were recording for over a week with no results but no matter what we always will watch because you have a true community behind you. Great video as always and I absolutely loved the B-roll shot at 2:35!
I appreciate it 🙏
(I'm still angry that I didn't succeed, ngl)
Don't ever think us as your fans would ever be disappointed in you brother..we understand, give yourself a big pat on your back..we love HOUSTON loves u brother ..your health matters more to us that you may ever know.."who's gonna continue teaching us through all these years like u..take care and take a break ..we love u ..
Very much appreciated
Bro you didn't fail at all I'm glad to see you again and please keep yourself safe that heat exhaustion is no joke at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YA BRO And no HOMO!!!!!
I'm not homophonic, so no worries. I wish I could have pulled that video off, but it was time to move on. I'm still mad thinking about it, lol.
@@wildlifefishingshow
No bro it was a GREAT VIDEO man!!!!!
@@coloradocoinhunter6475 appreciated 🤙
Two videos within 24 hours, awesome day. Hands down my favorite fishing channel. Glad you were able to deal with that heat exhaustion. I remember the video from last year, it's not pretty. Keep up the great work (fishing, editing, narrating, etc.) Do you prefer cone shaped bobbers or round? I fish for bass, crappie, and bream when I fish freshwater.
I definitely prefer the more cone shaped or cylindrical type as it's less resistance for running gar.
I will definitely be buying those rigs.
Hell yeah, catch a monster 🤙
The first hot days of Houston can trick you coming out of the winter. I was out as well and came home with heat rash. Love the content. You're doing great, young man!
Houston's heat builds character!❤ Just like the forest fire that we put out 2 months ago!😂
Ha, maybe, but if anything, the Houston heat has made me wish I did something different for a living. Got your email, responding in a bit.
I really dig your videos. Bill Dance did plenty of bad shows, don't sweat it. The end footage was cool. Great save.
I'd be really interested in seeing your take on light tackle carp fishing.
I will probably do some of that when these gnats are less of an issue
I bet 98% of us would've viewed your video without the rotten frog bait..
But good for you brother! You continue to come at TH-cam with a raw new take on urban fishing. I feel like you're in a league of your own. Keep up the good work brother!
I appreciate it 🙏
I love your fishing adventures. Thx for sharing. Take care 💪
I'm going to try using frog for bait next time I go fishing
I hope you have better success than I just did
Talking about heat exhaustion is probably the most helpful thing that you have done. Kudos.
I wouldn't make that kind of overgeneralization about my career, but I think I get your point
Poor Kermit,, oh no you killed Kermit. Miss piggy will never be the same lol.
You should do a fishing planet series
You mean Animal Planet or something different?
It’s a game that is fishing,it has carp alligator gar catfish and more species in different continents
@@hrocktx ah, gotcha
Thanks for all you do Be safe we are here for you. Keep up the good work.
Much appreciated
So much for bull frogs. I was going to say this was a hopping good video but now I can't cause the bull frog bombed. Great safety video though about the dangers of Texas heat.
Yeah, they worked great the first two times, but not this time
Wild life fishing doesn't always mean catching. Its good for people to see this side every now and then. Keep up the good work its still an adventure! Also carry a life straw just in case. Dont want to run out of water. 🤙
True about fishing on its own, but unfortunately, filming means I do have to catch stuff (if I want to make films people want to watch).
What's a life straw? I haven't heard of that.
@wildlifefishingshow Definitely understand that part. I just recently started filming myself and it is definitely challenging. A life straw is a filtration device that's very useful and you use it like a straw even in stagnant puddles. Look them up. I have one with me always fishing.
@@TheAnglerJay ah, that's cool
The anger comes from the fact that you're a perfectionist and don't do 'failure'. You're not used to it because you're a frikken expert. The 'mundane' stuff, the non catching, the rambling to yourself is also interesting as it also makes us lesser anglers not feel so bad when we don't catch. Keep at it.
Ha, I wish I wasn't used to it. I appreciate it 🙏
Your videos are really cool
Thanks 🤙
Dude I've actually been through the exact same emotions and hysteria getting skunked last summer (constantly in the 100s). After seeing this video I'm looking at it differently and definitely gonna start covering up completely in breathable fabric to help stay cooler.
Well, the hysteria is literally the heat exhaustion. Your brain actually stops functioning rationally without enough water.
Definitely do as much as possible to guard against the heat and stay hydrated.
awesome video. to prevent heat exhaustion wear a white towel over your head or somethign white in general, also keep some electrolytes (gatorade) with you but don't drink it over the water just drink a sip or two every hour. Do this because water isn't enough during really intense heat. I live in Texas. near Austin it get's real hot and humid over here too
Yeah, I did all the things, but it still got to me. I just bought some Liquid IV, so hopefully, that helps.
Not a fail my man. You fish in the hottest part of the country. Heat exhaustion/stroke, are serious. Been there myself, i used to frame houses in Arkansas. Got to tge pount where i stopped sweating once. Absolutely the end of my day. Take care, hydrate, and I've said thus before, ill say it again: i would like to see you wear a pfd when bayou fishing. Especialky when there us geat exhaustion on the horizon. If you pass out near that waterway, end of the road. Be safe, tight lines ! 👍🎣🎣
Hey Houstonian neighbor, rough few days fishing in this video. Don’t let it get you down. I do drone videography in the area. If you’ve got a project idea lemme know. Maybe we can collaborate and help get an interesting shot.
Residing in pearland area.
I appreciate the support 🙏
Damn bro just roasted prime
I originally went off on it, but cut it out for legal reasons, lol
Knots.!
Sweet, Lip Ripper.

Amazing brother
Much appreciated 🤙
Get a UV shirt and a sunhat man... Stay safe! I live in PA so i don't have to deal with heat like you do... But when we occasionally get 95+ i get pretty messed up since im not used to it. Sometimes having a frozen water bottle on you helps too for cooling off.
Keep your line tight man, good luck out there!
Yeah, I just bought some Liquid IV. I have been doing most everything "correctly" but nature still humbles us sometimes
As long as you didn’t catch the silver bullet you’re good to go.. many of my fellow marines suffered that indignity… I’m an hour from Houston and have yet to even hook one.. maybe one day.
The silver bullet? I'm unfamiliar with that euphemism.
Good work 💯
Much appreciated 🙏
Sometimes discretion is the better part of valour...in the mission of things...one step back 2 steps foward..
I have gone many sessions fishing a certain way in certain places for certain fish....and nada but the other blessings that fishing gives...and there are many...
Keep hydrated man...
Big part of the strategy in such weather...
That's a great way to put it
Where do you get these bull frogs from?
You can occasionally find them in Asian grocery stores
The very long wait reminds me of carp fishing in Europe. It was so slow that i used to fish with lures will waiting for a bite...
Yeah, it's nice to keep occupied with a more active fishing style when possible
It takes a surprisingly long time to re-hydrate the human body. Sometimes, like a day.
Definitely, I felt like I got run over for the next 48 hours
Plain water stopped working for me 3 years ago at 37 years of age. You gotta upgrade your electrolyte intake. Also, soaking and freezing booney hats and multiple bandanas and bringing a cooler bag. Cooling off your head and chest is helps bring you back from the point of no return so you can get home or to hospital if need be.
Yeah, I literally did all the things that day. On paper, I did it all "correct," but nature still knocked me down
Bro Im going through the same thing I haven’t had a legitimate bite the 4-5 time I’ve went out catfishing also I enjoyed the video keep em coming
Yeah, it's rough out there! Keep at it. I appreciate the support 🙏
By some salt tabs. It's what they give workers that work in very hot environments so they retain more liquid and not dehydrated
I just bought some Liquid IV, will look into salt tablets
Salt tab brand recommendations welcome, having a bit of a hard time with that.
i love it😁
I'm glad you enjoy it
Man mosquitos have been TERRIBLE
Yeah, mosquitoes and gnats are horrific
3:19 did anyone one else see that fish jump out 😅
I sure didn't, or I would have tried to catch it! Lol
That’s why it’s called fishing and not catching. I can’t tell you how many times I fished the Mississippi River and been to spots that I have caught fish and didn’t have a single bite. I’m fairly new to this TH-cam stuff and yes it does suck when you don’t catch anything and provide content for your subs but you keep your head up and push through because when you do catch fish it’s epic. Also non of us here subscribed to your channel are worth putting your life in jeopardy we need you around when you land those 200+ pound gar.
Also I plan on buying some of those rigs to try out.
I appreciate it 🤙
Some types of life-threatening activities are way more fun to film than others, and heat exhaustion is definitely at the bottom, lol.
I appreciate the support and good luck with those rigs! If you haven't seen it already, I go over how to use modified circle hooks on alligator gar in depth in my "How to Catch an Alligator Gar" video.
I’ll let you know how the rigs work!
I'd die in the heat and humidity of Houston.
I nearly have in the past, it's legitimately awful
@@wildlifefishingshow I've had the same problem on a few canoe trip in the Canadian North. Even without the humidity,m it's gruelling.
@@paulmaul2186 having heat related illness in a canoe does not sound fun

I appreciate the support 🤙
@wildlifefishingshow hey im also near the Houston area and i struggle to find spots u mind telling me a nice spot to go to
@@splashtown2324 Buffalo Bayou anywhere near downtown and Brays Bayou anywhere downstream of downtown.
You need to invest in liquid iv packs or any other electrolyte packs, pack fruits they will hydrate you way better than just water
I just bought some Liquid IV
Love how im out in the bayou rn and you decide to post 😂
Also with this heat I had a coach that almost had a heat stroke when we had practice. Houston sure does have a crazy weather
@@chrisshiesty1094 Houston can be absolutely awful in the summer, lol
What hook should I use for those spotted gar in Mary’s and clear creek, I hooked them numerous times but they keep on sliding off
Some kind of very sharp, small treble
What size is good?
@@azgamer7681 gotta experiment
I’ve got some size 8 owner stinger trebles, what do you think?

What is the low vis green line you put on your Penn fierce reel and Daiwa laguna rod
Probably Sufix
OK, I had to read the title of the video three fucking times because apparently my brain kept reading Grant the bullfrog catches giant fish. I just kept wondering, who the fuck is Grant the bullfrog. then I realized I was stupid and reading it wrong. It said giant. Yep, I’m a dodo bird.
We can call him Grant the bullfrog
could you link ur rod combo and gear?Pls
Link to my gear in the description of the video
For that circle hook method is it just a straight reel to tight up and then set?
Watch my "How to Catch An Alligator Gar" video. I go over it in very high detail, it's a specific movement.
@wildlifefishingshow I'll check it out and learn those techniques and Watch the video to understand how it's done.
Hey man life saving advice go get your self some electrolyte powder and mix it into your water you’ll never have that issue again, also try a water jug with some ice on hot days
I have been using Gatorage or electrolyte based mixes, still happens every now and then. It's just not a binary. I am thinking of what I can do to improve things, so we'll see.
wow
🤙
Hop3 you are ok
I'm ok, thank you
hey man, kudos for sharing your vulnerability. that's real shit right there.
I appreciate it 🙏
Man i really hope u see this message spinning reel on a 6’6” heavy duty conventional rod? What u think does it really affect to bend the rod in the opposite direction is made for???
Depends entirely on the model of rod, some can handle it better than others
I was on a vent with Covid and I can't handle heat at all since then. I'll fish for 2 hours and then be telling myself to go before it gets worse. As I'm sure you well know, it sucks to be leaving bc of heat exhaustion and then have to carry things a decent ways to the car.
Yeah, Covid has legitimate long-term effects for many. I have been very lucky to have the onset of heat exhaustion really start after I made it to my car.
@@wildlifefishingshow Seems like you get ahead of it and it keeps coming. I appreciate your vulnerability in the video. Anything we're passionate about will have frustrations

I wanted to go fish Houston but are the waters flooded or is it still able to fish
A bit of both. It's definitely still flooded, but there are some fishable areas. It really depends on what you're trying to catch.
@@wildlifefishingshowthank you for answering I’m trying to target big short nose gar and catfish I made a 4 hour trip yesterday to the Trinity River an if was flooded an running to bad to fish.
@@user-bx9zs6bk1i gotcha. Yeah, the Trinity was at historic floods levels recently. I would definitely recommend checking water levels with the charts on The National Weather Service website.
Definitely try Brays Bayou for the catfish. More alligator gar and spotted gar there than other species.

Live would have been better
No, it wouldn't have been in this circumstance due to a couple of factors
The gnats and mosquitoes are terrible
Oh, they're so bad it's shocking.
🐸 🪝 🧵
I feel and understand you. I had bad heat exhaustion last year fishing. I started to drink more water before the fishing trip. I think the days I was getting it was when all I had in morning to drink was tea. This video is a reminder to drink more water early.
@rvotbeats yeah, just be extra cautious in general. On paper, I did everything correctly, but nature doesn't use a checklist.
Lord forgive him for using a live bullfrog for bait...
Lord, it doesn't matter to me if he uses live bullfrogs for bait.. it would actually be more interesting to see live bait!.. just sayin' Lord.
