True, but that is why you have separate travel insurance on every portion of your trip. If you never use it (like health or life insurance) awesome. But, if you have ever had to use it even once (we had a surgical emergency once on a trip) it is worth its weight in gold to make you whole and then some.
I don't think this is quite fair because even with the 2 credits there will be a lot of people that won't be able to afford to rebook because the price has gone up so much over time.
I think this is more than fair. It is also why you need to have travel insurance for all portions of your trip. And never use the insurance offered by the airline or cruise lines.
I think the problems are with these relatively new 'Azipod' propulsion systems. More than a few ships (across several different lines) with this type of propoulsion have faced problems with them not long after entering service. Norwegian won a lawsuit against one of their ship builders for $159 million for issues with the azipod propulsion left the ship stranded at sea; Carnival's Vista class have also experienced well documented problems. I'm not a Marine engineer, but this might be one related issue.
I have heard the same warranted concerns about these azipods. This appears to be an area that cruise lines need to steer clear of, and find a better solution.
Jayson I think it’s weird that the last 2 ship’s Carnival launched have power issues and the last 2 ships RC has launched has power issues. Maybe they to rethink these propulsion drives. Plus I think the Carnival Vista was having the same issues. 😮
While it sounds fair, considering most of these people likely booked when booking first opened, it is more likely then not the refund & cruise credit won't even come close to paying for an Icon replacement cruise. Not to mention all the extras that would have been purchased during sales. Lift & shift seems a more fair offer. The airfare reimbursement is definitely very low. I understand why so many of the people scheduled for this cruise are very upset.
Thank you for this. How much did you pay for your icon package that was so cheap and how/when did you book it to get that price. I really want to go, but it is soooo expensive for my 5 person family. Thanks!
RC was our first cruise earlier this month to Alaska on Quantum of the Seas. Loved the ship, RC, Alaska, and cruising! Already booked another for next year to Bahamas on Symphony of the Seas. RC is top notch!
If it's a propulsion issue, didn't they learn ANYTHING from the problens in May/June? Or are the incredible amount of onboard systems, eating up more power than they can generate? This is alarming.
Yes, you're right about the price of the flight. If I were going to fly to get on that ship, it would cost me £2000 for two people on flights and whatever a hotel would cost on top of that.

$200-$400 cash for airfare is not even close to covering flights. Flights are almost as much as the cruises at this point.

Untrue. Icon charges almost 1500$ per person for 4 people, we got flights from LA to Miami for 175 per person

RCCL can afford this after charging 3x more for Icon
What else is new. These ships are just too complicated and the engineers of today are not the engineers of yesteryear 😮
No interest in these mega ships. People soup... Celebrity Edge class is as large as I go.. Perfect balance of space amenities and people
Multi Problems for a New Ship ..And the Air Fare seems
a Little LOW .. Don't You think ??
It’s too big!! Too much stuff on it!

Possibly you are referring to the Vista, Horizon and Panorama. Do not believe the Mardi Gras or Celebration have had any problems.
I can't see the LMG-powered engine being an issue because I've done countless trips on excellence-class ships P&O cruises use.
I’m on the OCTOBER 5 cuisine. I hope it goes
I’m booked for Dec 7th. Prayerful it will be good to go.
The compensation was very fair, but I don't think it is related to the multi plug issue at all
We are on the October 5th sailing ... anxiously awaiting the "all clear".
I bet, hope everything goes well for you guys. Thanks for watching

Was on the Icon 3rd week of May and yes we lost power twice during our sailing.
That had to be incredibly unnerving!
@@meddyven didn’t even notice much other than the float elevator for the slides stopped working!

Good information.

I will be on the 2 November…😊
They're being very generous with what they are giving everyone. As usual, people will still complain about it.
At least they canceled and not kept going like the one Carnival? I feel awful for them and the people with poor refunds but at least they’re safe!
They lost a power drive pod, basically teh screw drives
Wow!I have a friend who is on icon now.
This is way you take travel insurance
We're sailing on the Icon in January 2025...maybe.
Royal really knows how to treat their customers. Good job 👍
The airfare credit is a joke. They need to refund all costs including hotels booked too.
