The Songhai was brought down by infighting and the invasion of the Moroccan Pasha Jawdar. Slavery was a well regulated business during the Songhai period, and likely had nothing to do it Gao falling under Moroccan control. Sometime people bring up slavery, without knowing the nuances of the region.
