"What does it mean, Mirgorod?
Really, it sounds like Asgard (a region in the centre of the universe, inhabited by the gods) or Glastonbury (a town in Somerset, SW England; pop. 9,000 (est. 2009). A the legendary burial place of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere and the site of a ruined abbey, founded by Joseph of Arimathea). The meaning of Mirgorod has two aspects. First of all it is Peace, Town of Peace, secondly Mir is World, Town of The World, where we can enjoy a happy life in our world. But at the same time the Ukrainian town Mirgorod, was filmed during the Russian-Ukrainian war although quite far from the front line. Children are playing with guns and you can see men in uniform at the train station or on the streets. The Water is a main resource of this town. Because of the quality water and the beautiful soil the vegetables taste good. That is why the cult of a good food is so important for citizens of Ukrainian town of Mirgorod. That is also why Ukraine has been attracting different invaders for centuries. The last one is The Russian Federation.
Not only the food is significant to all Ukrainians. Ancient rituals like the sacred festival of Ivan Kupala has continued to get great respects from locals, dancing through the night, with perhaps an erotic atmosphere, around a bonfire.
This film is a modern epic poem, a documentary about the country fighting face to face with neighbour monster, dealing with inside corruption as well, but with people dreaming about Peace and Happiness, because they could have it all - together with a good water and good natured people.
Not everyone from the West has a bravery to come not just to Kiev, the widely publicized “Maiden”, but to the deep province to meet real people, far away from the capital, like this film does."

Director's note:
"Was it going to be observational, or expository. Who would be a likely broadcaster, what would they want? And me, a fly on the wall or participatory, reflexive? Before long concerns in this direction vanished, form, narrative devices, tone or style of this documentary felt of little importance. Because I got somewhat drawn into a slice of life, of a laid back country side, in a state many people hear about for the first time as that “country at war”. The theme of the piece, water, was just right there in front of me. I want to know what water is here. The feeling, having the film material in the editing suit, everyday life, memories in digital form, not knowing where to start, what was really in there, how this is going to look and feel like, was just fine. Feeling eased, to over analyse was not a danger, it was not essential to analyse all."
