Marriage is not the answer to financial security. My ex spent loads and got us into debt. So, when we divorced the only house i could buy ( once the marital home was sold off and debts settled) was small, run down and in a rough area. However, i chose my rough area carefully - near buses and cheap supermarkets as well as the train station. When i sold it the area had come up in the world and i had made improvements to the house. I afforded this by hard work. I went from being on benefits to being able to retire to the seaside at 58 ( as well as brining up 2 kids on the way).
TIP: find yourself so.wthing that costs nearly nothing as a treat. Driving nearby for a beautiful walk in nature; yoga classes ( not via a gym); trips the library; free local festivals; amateur dramatics theatre productions etc. Celebrate everything you can find that is free!

Your doing great, mindset is so important. You have your own business which you have managed through hard work to keep going, you employ people giving them security. You have done this yourself, brilliant! Please don’t be so hard on yourself, you must be making progress, see where you were a year or two ago on your spending and look how you have progressed. I think that you provide a great inspiration to others. Maybe write a list of things you need in regards clothes household things and then have treat days out to car boots or charity shops and take your list and only buy things that are on the list, having rules helps. It turns into a bit of a treasure hunt and can give you something to look forward to. Enjoying your videos.

To say that I am rubbish with money would be an understatement, so I can understand how you feel completely. My grandfather gave me some great advice. Decide how much I am going to save per week/month then as soon as your wages hit your bank account, straight into savings. For something like a deposit for a house, put it in quite long term stuff like bonds or ISAs. Also have some burn money, we all need the odd treat. With clothes I always found that going to charity shops in a smart part of town pays dividends. As you are in a small city, also check out the shops near the university. I have looked at Vinted a few times and nearly fainted. I taught myself how to use a sewing machine so I can alter or rejig clothes that are too big or don't have a decent cut.
Enough of that! I LOVED that beach hut and am now looking for ones near me to escape to. Doing my thesis, so the idea of peace and quiet with just the waves for company sounds like heaven.
You will get there, fellow shed-lady.
    Miff

Really enjoy your videos. We're in a similar situation (solo plus cat!) - lovely you are not alone. It's so tough when you have to do everything by yourself. I'm 45 this year, single and no kids. I have a good job but can only rent a very small one bed flat. No safety net as I have no family/parents and never had any financial security. I'm in a huge amount of debt thanks to gaps between jobs and a very toxic relationship a few years back. I stay as sane as possible by trying not to compare to other people. Who says you have to own a property! Personally I am going to save hard once I have paid back the debt and plan to use it to retire at 65 overseas somewhere cheaper x

I completely understand the need for security as a single woman. Just last month I got on the housing ladder through shared ownership. It's a lot of risk, but my plan is to staircase to 100% within 3 years. Then overpay the mortgage by £5-6k a year so I'll be mortgage-free by my mid forties. With inflation and AI takeover it's a very stressful time to live.

You are doing great. Don't look back just focus on the future. I budget everything, it really helps. I have sinking funds for annual expenses such as christmas, holidays etc and plan ahead as much as I can. It helps when beginning budgeting to log everything you buy for a month and put the spends into categories; this really helps focus on where your money is going. Pay yourself first by putting savings away as though they are a bill and then allocate your budget and leave yourself something for personal spends such as clothes etc as if you don't you will resent your budget!

    • @caroldaviddaviejohnson2225
      @caroldaviddaviejohnson2225 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Spot on with all of this! Budget, keep track of every penny and pay yourself first as a bill for savings, it works. As soon as money reaches the bank account shift the savings amount straight out to another account, finding an account which pays the best interest rates for savings 👍

Yes, it's going to be fine because you're thinking proactively! Be like a European til you've saved enough- most European people rent their property 👍 Also mindset, should anything happen you're able to access help with rent costs, not so easy with a mortgage. Lettuce leaves- bung them in with a stir fry, extra greens and not going to waste. Cucumber pop in ice cubes and freeze for adding to cold drinks of water etc. You work hard, you're proactive, and you keep it real! My daughters are all in their 30's and 40s. Not one of them are married, one was and divorced him. The others don't want to give up their autonomy and independence to do whatever they want to do. As for vinted, just take the app off your phone for as long as you want to save some money- I've removed loads of apps and also unsubscribed from marketing emails from several places. Great video👍

Meant to say Morrisons do a brilliant pack of bacon offcuts for £1. It's a massive pack and often there's large pieces thick as a gammon steak, and by sorting in into portions you end up with loads, some are slightly shorter rasher sizes and a few smaller pieces ideal to add to recipes. Every pack is different, so by buying a couple of packs there is so much bacon in them it's a brilliant bargain

Omg honestly love your sincerity, you eat like a queen, so inspirational! I used to live in Catton (flat was horrid but great views of fireworks across city). You are an absolutely fabulous kitty guardian completely correct about Jack's whiskers, (they are the same length as widest part of his body, so super sensitive, so cats know they can fit through spaces, therefore they don't like them to be touched,) consider nettles, they are the veg with highest protein🎉and tasty, (shocker considering they weed but honestly tasty and surprisingly just washing them removes most of sting, cooking it completely destroys sting). But please don't throw ur veg n fruit in ur supermarche trolley cos it bruises, then spoils quicker! But I think you are amazing and loved seeing Jack watch the lion king😂 ❤! Keep up the great work!!

@thebudgetfoodie your lamb dish reminded me of lamb keema, it’s an Indian dish. You can also use beef mince as cheaper. If doing low carb serve with cauliflower rice, other wise you can have with baked potato or rice. It’s also good as a shepherds pie or used in pastys. Also look up Egg Keema recipe.

I would really love to know where you got your fridge storage containers. Are they glass? I've been looking on Amazon but the glass containers with lids are expensive! By the way, I live about 45 minutes from Norwich on the north Norfolk coast 😁. I think your food looks really appetising. It's hard to budget and think of meals when you're single, as well I know! Hey I love your videos, I’m 31, have a small child under 2 and my partner is 40. We have some savings but not
Much. We’re renting & trying to save for a mortgage. Our landlord is selling the house we live in and unfortunately there’s a housing crisis where I live and rent is sky high 😢. We’re trying to save as much as possible every month and know it’ll be worth it hopefully in the next year or so to go for mortgage approval. You’re not alone, so many people have no money, no savings and no security. I worry about it all the time and feel guilt over buying myself anything (even second hand items) I buy things for my son all the time too as he’s always growing and needs more clothes/shoes/ age appropriate toys etc.
it’s so hard but you’re doing amazing and don’t lose hope ❤
The first 5 years of any start up business are statistically the hardest financially to get through.
For years I followed Dave Ramsey about finance and I finally learned about having an ‘emergency fund’ which I keep of £1000 at all times. I still think it’s important to have a separate budget for clothing/entertainment whatever you like in your life because it can’t all be budget budget budget and no fun or for yourself. Life is for living after all make your money work for you. I set up a direct debit savings account so every month when I get paid (work part time in finance 3 days a week) money goes to a savings account I can’t touch. That’s all we can do is try ❤ love your content & love your cat jack. Makes me miss my beloved cat. She died a few years back now but she was 18 years old 😊 she was a tuxedo cat too!

Also super cheap, when you think about how much protein they hold. Same goes for all beans, chickpeas, etc. Dirt cheap for the protein value and health benefits they have.

Freeze spinach raw as it cooks so quickly. Home ownership incurrs lots of costs that renting does not. When you get a leak or a loose tile or the heating breaks down it costs you thousands. Apart from the home, you need a decent emergency fund for these things. Don't worry about not owning your home.

Use the tips from this other woman to give you inspiration and goals but not to bear yourself up. I came across your videos as I’m trying to cut back due to a big tax bill. Online orders from places that are good value and this is a big one having a chest freezer and growing a fair bit of our own stuff too, one thing I'd definitely recommend even growing curly kale in a pot because it's so tough it'll stand through winter, harvest leaves as and when, get some chard going as well, it's nicer than spinach and won't go to seed easily like spinach, if you want any other suggestions or advice regarding easy veg to grow for yourself I'm happy to help, just message 🙂. Please don't say about having OCD unless you are actually diagnosed or seeking diagnosis, it's so much more than being particular about something, it's hell living with it frankly. Aside from that you're doing great and at least you're trying to do something about it now before it's too late, too many people bury their heads in the sand, it's a horrible situation for our generation and it's not fair but we've got to try and carve out a patch for ourselves.

It’s really hard budgeting solo for food, I watch a channel Befree Befrugal who shops at her local Sainsbury’s and gets fabulous bargains many times 10p a go, might be worth a visit in the evenings for markdowns, that’s if you’re not to “cream crackered” after work, I’m retired and when I was working I spent around £19 on a bus pass every week, seems a lot but I used it every day even on my days off, I wish when I’d got my free bus pass I’d put the bus fare away each week, somewhere in the region of £10,000 after 10 years!

Theres so much to unpack this video you too hard on yourself embarking in 2 huge changes with food and financial budgeting at ince both can feel daunting/ confusing and hard.
We have a idea of what success is in this country UK fixated with home ownership/ high rents and crap landlord's plus lowest pensions in europe these thing's can make is us feel like we made so many mistakes and we keep focusing on the negatives rather than focus on the positives.
What if success is doing what makes you happy.
Dreams and lifes can change in am instant its been a crazy few years in tbe uk that has made big financial goals harder to change its not all you being bad with money. Is your instagram not working?
Love that beach hut. Positives you look fabulous/ you have a cute cat/ done well with job/ have lovely family and your home us stunning too. I dont think strict financial diets work its unrealistic to say you wont buy any clothes/ makeup or other treats. Yes ifs important to budget/ track your money / save / pay off debt but should add a small budget for clothesl/ personal treats. You work hard its about finding balance between priorities and living a nice life. You dont want deprive yourself too much that you feel miserable. I love carboots/ jumbles and clothes swap parties locall for my clothesl even fb market place. I live big city so lucky i have so much choice of supermarkets I can shop arounf which is time consuming but saving me money.

It's not compulsory to own a house you know ! I am retired now and rent, I have owned property in the past and had to come off the property ladder because of bad relationships and having to pay off debt left by the 'significant other'. With home ownership comes a whole barrow load of other problems/financial expenses i.e. what if the roof needs replacing ? heating system ? windows need replacing ? kitchen/bathroom etc. etc., council tax increases, the list goes on and on, you will never have any spare cash when you own, believe me, I've been there and done that ! I don't feel any shame in renting, in fact it is liberating not to have to budget for house repairs etc., and anyway, not being maudling, but who will get your property when you go ? the one you will have worked so hard for, worried about keeping up payments and keep on top of things ? a distant relative perhaps ? why should they get it when it's you who have bought it ?? Many will say renters are the wise ones ! not being stitched up for many, many years with huge debts, panicking in case the Bank of England has a hissy fit and puts up the interest rates yet again ! leaving you worried sick in case you now can't meet the monthly payments. It's no good at all adding up how much money you would have had if you didn't pay rent - because you wouldn't - you have to pay to live somewhere don't you ?? Yes, rents can go up too but not as much as a mortgage and if you want/need to move, as a renter you can do so very, very quickly, not having to put your property on the market with all the expenses that involves, sitting twiddling your thumbs while you wait for a buyer ! So many people in these difficult times have lost their homes and have had to move into rented accommodation anyway, having lost all those years of mortgage payments ! so congratulate yourself - you have escaped one of lifes biggest financial traps - your situation is not so bad after all.

I’m heartbroken for our younger generations today I’m 58 now but bought my first brand new house at 19 with a 100 percent mortgage for 26k. Of course I was only earning 4k Paid off mortgage 10 years early when the Covid shit show started. When governments print money like it’s Monopoly money - leads to inflation every time resulting in rate hikes.. It’s so much harder now we have three girls two married and one living at her boyfriends family’s as it’s a big house, saving like mad for deposit. We are about 30 odd miles from London so you’re talking 250k for a first time buy. Of course I don’t know your personal circumstances but trying to do this alone while renting is unbelievably hard. If you were my daughter I’d suggest you live at home until you have your deposit if that were possible. Learn about finances assuming of course you don’t already know. There’s a reason they don’t teach it in schools. Taxpayers and consumers for big corporates indebted for life. I truly wish you well hope your channel really takes off, you come over as a nice genuine lady. Sometimes we all need a little helping hand.
