    The Karen's natural habitat usually consists of retail stores and fast food places. They can stealthy appear out of nowhere hunting their prey. However, in other public places there are no managers to prey upon. This and the result of wondering out of their natural habitat leads to confusion and they become hyper aware of their surroundings. One theory is that it triggers a hormonal reaction and they become aggressive. Researchers have been experimenting with decoys such as inflatable fast food restaurants that can be placed at a safe distance from everyone else to lure them away but it's still in early development. If you're in a park, it is recommended you set up a decoy barbecue at least 100 yards away to distract them. Tune in to the Discovery Channel this weekend for a special hosted by David Attenborough.

      @Mystic Ren been a conductor for 20 years, I dont mind railfans like the one filming the video. Sure, I dont get it and that's ok. He isn't hurting anyone, doing his thing and probably hanging out with his son or daughter. My issue is the foamer. Yes, 2 totally different types of railfan. A foamer will get a lot closer to us and is really annoying if you tell him to back up. We don't care that the engine is some special engine and use to be painted like the rock island. I had an encounter with a sheriff's deputy in the early 1980s when I pulled off the highway to wait for a train coming down from Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada range of California. He pulled in behind me, got out of his car and immediately asked me what I was doing. I told him I was waiting for a train. Long silence. The then asked me if I had a gun. I told him yes, in my car. Long silence. Confused by straight-up honesty, not knowing what to say next, he then told me if he caught me shooting at any of the insulators on the telephone poles, he'd arrest me. Then he stomped off to his patrol car, got in and drove away.

    • @mopar_dude9227
      @mopar_dude9227 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      First, in all states, it is illegal to stop on the side of a highway unless you are broken down. That would be why he stopped. As for the gun issue, they were probably having problems with someone shooting the insulators on the power lines. I knew a few idiots when I was young that thought it was a fun thing to do. And for the long silence, he was probably trying to figure out why any person would stop to watch a train go by.

I saw a teenager once while watching a live stream, use a FLASHLIGHT to add lighting and shined it on the cab as they went by. I eventually called the cops in that area (they thought I was kidding, seeing I'm 250 miles away from the location but showed up and actually did something!) . I try to always be courteous, not be in a place to concern the crew, or be rude to anyone, and have even asked before if I was OK where i was.. I'm sorry you had to go through this but good on you for showing the do and don'ts! Keep up the good work on your vids! I used to live by BNSF's Fallbridge subdivision in Washougal, WA. One night, I was taking photos of a BN train at the 6th street crossing in Washougal. After the train passed, I got confronted by two women who had a young girl with them. One of the women asked me if I was taking pictures of the train. I said yes, and the women walked away. But they came back and started doing things like pretending to take photos of me and my little pickup that I was sitting in. They pretended to write my license plate number down, and just generally acted like I'd done something wrong. Kept watching me. I didn't understand why they were doing that, but I eventually got it off my mind. It was later when I got the photos back, and I saw that they were in the pictures with the train in the background. A few weeks later, I found out that the house I'd been parked next to had been used for a meth lab. These women must have thought I was with the police, or a neighborhood watch and was taking photos to turn them into the police. Stupid. I'd never seen these women before in my life, did not know anything about them or that house. But, honestly, they would not have had to worry about my being there taking train photos if they had not been doing things that are illegal.

Unfortunately I hate confrontation so much that I've just limited myself to using parking lots and even then I start feeling anxious and self-aware if I haven't moved in 30 min or longer. Luckily the place I railfan the most has several large public parking lots and plenty of street parking, all right by the tracks. Regardless, this part of the hobby gets so exhausting

And they call the railroad bull out, or the county sheriff, and get people ran off the public road, which we pay taxes on, because of it.

      Apparently, not all Railroads are alike. I am a Retired BNSF employee, and this is BNSF's policy: "BNSF appreciates its railfan photographers and thanks them for their interest in BNSF and its trains. For safety reasons, BNSF can't grant access to its property for photography purposes. Photography of BNSF operations must be done from a safe location outside of railroad property.
      Encounters between BNSF police and photographers are generally casual in nature and not documented unless there is a criminal violation or circumstance that would warrant further law enforcement action or enforcement. BNSF Police reinforce guidance on this issue to officers in the field so that continues to be common practice.
      We value the support the rail community provides to our officers and rely on their continuing understanding that the intent of any contact by police is part an effort to further the safety of our railway and the communities where we operate."
      If you have a bad interaction with a BNSF Employee and you are not on property, turn them into the nearest Trainmaster.

    That crazy lady ruined some perfectly good audio. You were in the right clearly, because you were on public property. Don't think that there are laws stating that you cannot film on public property. Unless of course someone asks not to be recorded, which clearly this Karen did not want. However, in the state of New Hampshire (where I live) you have the right to record someone without consent if you feel threatened. But seeing as this video was posted, the police probably didn't care, and realized that you were all set

    • @ralfie8801
      @ralfie8801 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re on public property and you can see it with your eyes, in these United States we live in, you can also video it, no matter what anybody says. You don’t need their permission to video them if they’re in a public area. If they mess with you, have them arrested for assault.

      I pulled over on the side of the road next to their property, but on the public right of way. I set up my camera and tripod in the bed of my truck to film a train passing with a relatively rare locomotive leading. My camera and tripod in the truck was tall enough to see over their fence, and I guess that triggered them. However my camera was pointing at the tracks to film the train and I had no interest in whatever they had going on. They came out and asked me what I was doing and who I worked for and why I was filming trains. They told me to get off their property and I never was on their property. Then they tried calling me a pervert because I guess they were swimming. I had no clue what they were doing or what their problem was ,but the deputy sheriff that took their complaint told them that I hadn’t done anything illegal, I wasn’t on their property, and I could film whatever I want to include them (won’t ever happen) from private property. If I was ever harassed by them again, they would go to jail for disorderly conduct.
