Welcome to my new series “Building Through A Breakup” and boy is it going to move fairly quickly because a girl has got to function over here! We broke up a couple of days before my birthday and I spent my actual birthday moving the last of my things out of my ex’s - FUN…not. I zipped off to Joshua Tree with my best broad for a birthday/breakup getaway and I have to say I left a piece of my heart there. The trip came at the perfect time with the perfect people and really helped me accept that I am going to be going through a healing process for quite sometime. I fell in love with the Airbnb we stayed at which is my inspiration for my new room so I’m excited to show you the next little sliver which is my small closet! I hope you like where the new vibe is headed - love you guys xx.

I remember you mentioning in a video a long time ago that you could’ve easily kicked back and enjoyed the life you had with him but you wanted something of your own and I know that is definitely playing a big part in how you’re able to bounce back the way that you have.

I genuinely needed this video because I am in the process of moving back home after my dad passed away to take care of my mom (they are my grandparents since my actual parents passed when I was an infant) and I’m reorganizing my closet. Like you, I feel like everything is a mess in my life right now. I have watched so many of your videos, but from the last one to now, this new “Rachel” is also letting me know that it is okay to have a breakdown or 2, as long as we keep moving forward and giving gratitude to being alive and the lessons that come with loss. You are strong, beautiful and inspiring so please never forget that. Lysm!💖

Long time lurker, first time commenter! Rachel, you’re an inspiration. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, but was living with my dad while I dealt with some health issues, so didn’t have a space to makeover. Unfortunately, my dad died unexpectedly in January and I’ve inherited the house, which I’ve had intensely mixed emotions about. He’d been retired two years and had started trying to makeover the house into his dream space, and this video has been like a spark of hope and inspiration I needed to start making this place into a dream home he’d have been proud of. Thank you so much. Sending you support/love/strength from the UK for your new chapter. You’re just going to go from strength to strength - you’ve got this!

When you do these type of makeovers can show show how functional things are? for example how you put stuff on the back wall like is it easy to access or do you have to move much to get it.I don't know if it makes sense

    • @LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz
      @LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Unfortunately I'm not going to break down functionality all the time because I figured people can fill in the blanks/assess and build for their own needs. The bags hanging behind my dressier clothes on the left hand side are clothes I'm not grabbing for because COVID/quarantine and those are my nicer purses I would pair (sitting behind) with it by simply scooting the hangers over and grabbing. Necklaces are in easy reach as you can tell in the video and the pants again to get to them - scoot the hangers over.

WOW Rachel I can't believe how much stuff you were able to put in that closet once you customised it! It's so pretty too! I live in a rental so not sure how much of this DIY I could get away with but you sure are inspiring!😁 Plus, let me just say that I SO look forward to your videos because I love your style & you make everything seem so doable. I am so proud of how you keep GOING STRONG 💪 thru your breakup & I'm sure it's really very hard but I for 1 appreciate your videos while you "Build thru the Breakup"👍

Woooow Rachel, you maximised everything!!!! You rocked this DIY. It is interesting also to see how to style small spaces!
I painted the 3 of the 4 walls of my kitchen black, everyone thought that I was completely crazy... I was. Thinking about your favourite colour... It ended up great 😉

Rachel this just what i needed. I removed the mirrored closet doors off since they kept coming off the tracks. My closet is configured similarly and I dont want to spend crazy money on custom closet organization system.

it feels silly to say this as a stranger from simply watching your videos and only knowing a small portion of your life through this - but you seem like such a strong and wonderfully independent woman! I am so sad that your life changed so drastically but hopefully for the better! You got this with figuring out your life and I am looking forward to watching the future content you did fully for yourself. All strength to you!

Love it! My only advice would be to keep an eye out on the sweaters on the floor since they can get dirty. Maybe add another piece of wood to make another shelf or place them in a basket

I love this! It’s super inspiring and I love that you show every detail because I have always wanted to know how to do this kind of stuff with tools and my own imagination, and you explain everything very well! You should do classes to teach us! I don’t know if you do that already but you are super good at explaining! I think the only thing I would do different is I wouldn’t personally put my dirty clothes hamper in the closet because i go through so much clothes and mine would get messy fast!

Love this and it is gives me something to think about for my sons closet. I like the idea of using the flanges in the back but worry how accessible they will be by having to move the hanging clothes in front. Giving it some thought.

thank you for not going back to normal and still including petitions and donations. I personally really love your small closet, I have a huge closet that is half empty because I downsized the amount of clothes I have^^ I would probably personally include more shelves or dresser space because I like to have some of my clothes folded. the way you store your pants behind the hanging clothes is absolutely genius imo!
I think you found a beautiful space for yourself and I can't wait to see the room makeover! I also want to say even tho that might be a bit too personal that you seem like such a strong and genuinely good and admirable person

I mean, what can I say? It’s practical, it’s efficient and it looks great 👏🏼 White and natural wood tone is like my jam right now too so this is literally and hypothetically right up my alley. I guess the only thing I would do differently is not attach the shelf support on the IKEA dresser. Love the shelf idea, but I don’t trust myself to nail or screw anything on furniture - per say

I don't know what caused your break up, frankly it's none of my business. However I do know the pain of a break up, I'm very proud of you for 'walking on', with your friends, family and channel. You do You!
I love your monologue-ing voice overs.... the way you 'put' everything is not overly wordy, but like a little peek into your thought processes, which helps people understand where you're coming from and how to apply your concepts to their own DIY's.
