Such a skilled martial artist who also gains respect from humility... I really like how he encourages people to practice and such. I only know how to do two of his tricks. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some more learned.
You need to check out tessen, the Japanese war fan. You might like it. It also justifies those metal fans with all the designs on them. ( my Sifu taught the Chinese fan.)
Each wooden stick on fan use to end with sharp knife so the damage was real. Once he throw fan with 15 blades, the cuts are real and in pre antibiotic times the death is likely. You can also put some poison on blades.....
He is so nice and humble. Most people would have showed off, and would have said that they did it in one shot, but Jackie isn't afraid of telling the truth
I have a fan this size, I actually got two 40 years ago, one for practise and the big one for on the wall as a decoration.I thought it might be too big for actual use. I'm going to have to reconsider now. To show how diverse the fan is, There is a Ninja master that teaches the fan. He uses a 10 - 12" fan of bamboo and paper. Others are made of iron and bamboo with paper, and some have cloth. Modern ones have steel and cloth. I'm not sure of laws of the fans (even bamboo) if they can be taken into government buildings. It could be considered a weapon...or just a fan for cooling yourself.
@@pinkyster9384 Look around for an Asian type store. In my city they have on at the mall, called " Asian styles " they have very reasonly priced fans of pear wood( pear wood is almost as hard as oak) and paper for $9.00 for a 13" one, and $5.00 for a 11" one. And the owner is really nice. If you are serious about learning it might be good to invest in a higher priced one with iron, but for practise it might be better to use a cheaper version at first,( they can still be as effective as an iron one). There are also bamboo ones on internet. The fan can be a passive aggressive weapon, like the monkey ring used in the monkey styles. Some day I might buy a more expensive fan. In my own collection of fans l have two 11", two 13", one 16" and a 21" that l bought back in the 1980's. (The 16" and the 21" l got at a oriental store, they had cloth instead of paper.) The 21" fan was to go on my wall with some writing on it, but it still hasn't gotten there 😀. If you learn by books or video, examine everything you see carefully! I started in "Kung Fu" in 1978' during the Bruce Lee fad. I checked and questioned EVERYTHING that my Sifu taught to be sure it was real, it was! I learned twice as much as l normally would from him by just checking every thing. It is said in some styles that you don't even open the fan for use in the first 2 years of training. But most of all...... BE CAREFUL ! Even though it is made of bamboo, it can still do great damage by accident. Like any wood weapon be sure to use wood oil on the bamboo to preserve it. And remember! HAVE FUN!!!! I was tooo serious with my training. You need to enjoy what you do. I hope this helps you. (There l go again going on and on...some day l should write a book.) 😋
@@thedukeofskull1383 wow thanks alot, a while ago i bought a 12" bamboo fan with polyester, i think its pretty good but i bought it for my mom so i dont want to wreck it while practicing, also i think the iron fans are way heavier than bamboo and i dont really want to learn how to fight with it but more to do visual tricks and flourishes to improve dexterity and also just because its fun as a hobby, thats why i wanted to know the size of the fan jackie uses in the video, it looks like it was made for tricks like these. It seems that you know quite alot about fans, maybe you could tell me about the fan he uses in the video? I think its made of bamboo or some type of wood, And has paper on it? Or a stiff cloth? Thank you very much dude!
@@pinkyster9384 polyester ?? WOW, Sounds like you have a good one! Its nice that you got it for your mom.(I'm always happy to hear of nice moms.) I looked at the video again carefully, the gold fan is a stiff paper fan and the white fan moves like it is a soft cloth fan 21". Polyester is a good material. It sounds like it would be fun to flip the fan around and do tricks and not have self defense in mind. I even might try it sometime it sounds like fun 😀 . it might help me to relax more, The polyester fan sounds like it should work nicely, (I always believed in getting 2 fans so you can have an extra , if it is needed.) I keep forgetting that there is a graceful side that is NOT connected to self defense. Fan flipping is a beautiful art, have fun with it and don't get to frustrated with it...it will take time and you are suppose to have fun. I Know a lot about fans? Not really that much. I have studyed "kung Fu" for 41 years in "3 Kingdoms style" and taught chinese weapons for 33 years. 😀 Here is one for a good laugh, I'm diabetic and at times I'm dizzy. My daughter said with a big smile, " dad, since you are dizzy, you ought to practise drunken style again 😀😀😀😀😀. ENJOY YOUR FAN AND HAVE FUN !! @@thedukeofskull1383 thanks! You really helped me out since there isn't much info on the internet on this subject. Fan tricks seems really fun and i cant wait to learn some. if you are interested, you should look up skill toys, it's a category of items like baoding balls, yoyo, playing cards, and apparently the folding fan and many more that you can do very nice tricks with them. Thank you so much! Ill look into getting a larger 16" fan maybe as a start, then i might get myself a fancy paper or cloth fan. I really appreciate your help! Thank you!
I‘ve tried throwing the fan, but everytime I throw it, for example, if I was aiming at an acorn in the tree, it always flies towards the acorn and gets stuck in the tree (BTW, my fan is steel)! how do you make it come back?
@IcedLipGloss Wow, really? I'm turning 29. I think grandfather would be pushing it just a little...unless Jackie had kids very young. I know his son was born in the mid 80s or either the early 80s.
just a different way to spell that name dude, u do know his original name is in a unique language which doesn't include an alphabet system right? so technically it doesnt matter how to spell jackie chan, its just not his "real name", its just an translation.

Could have listened to him talk for an hour. Bruce Lee notwithstanding, the man is the greatest movie martial artist who ever lived.
Hmmm, no. Many are much better martial artists and better man
so the fan is used more to distract an opponent than as a weapon

This combos well with the fan off and you can beat the fuck outta soneobe
