It’s funny because until you get a job that deals with the general public you think “surely no one can actually be that stupid” and then you get a job that deals with the general public
My first job was McDonald’s…I was concerned but thought, I’m 16, what do I know. But then I worked in health care for 7 years and now idk how humans have managed to be around for so long.
I worked for a small government agency when Parks and Rec was airing. The thing they got most accurate was public meetings and interacting with the public. The writing was spot on.
I still find it extremely funny and entertaining to go to my homeowners' association's general meetings, fortunately I don't work with people - I would probably then despise those meetings.
I was a receptionist for a museum as an undergrad and an older man called me asking to be transferred to speak to some man. I had never heard of the man the caller was requesting, so I told the caller that no one worked here by that name. I googled the name of the man he was asking for and told the caller that it appeared they worked at a different museum. The caller yelled at me, called me stupid, told me he was frustrated that someone so incompetent was working at the museum. I told him I couldn’t transfer him because there was no one there to transfer him to. He angrily hung on me, calling me stupid again.
He called back three minutes later in a kind tone, without apologizing, and said he had gotten the man’s name wrong. He told me the new name, which was an actual employee, and I transferred him immediately.
He had read a book coauthored by two professors and wanted to ask them a question. He had called the wrong museum about the wrong name. All of his screaming at me was so he could ask a generic question he could have googled.
The most accurate comment of all time. I was SHOCKED when dealing with customers. Like how did you survive this long in life?????
One of the greatest recurring characters of this show is the guy who tries to get people to chant for things he wants
“We’re not against you on this. We’re not against you on this.”
He’s one of my favorites too.
@@spencergsmith That scene was so cathartic. Seven season in, and finally Leslie has the public on her side.
HER DAUGHTER IS AN IDIOT
"Her daughter is an idiot, "her daughter is an idiot!". 😂
@@drake8168 "Except for Turnip! Except for Turnip!" 🤣
This is the perfect time to remind everyone that there is an uncut, nine minute long version of Patton Oswalts Star Wars filibuster, and it's the best thing ever.
Thank you!
It is 8 minutes and 43 seconds 🤓 th-cam.com/video/5BBhNkywMJY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=74V-OzTe1stYE_0Z
Patton is the single greatest comedy guest star of all time, and that rant is one of the single funniest things in the history of funny
It's an absolute masterpiece!
Thanks! Didn’t know this.
Ron twirling around in his chair to avoid talking to the complainer never cease to make me laugh.
That’s probably the best one. That lady was insufferable. Great actress.
@@dannigro8794 Sara Van Horn is her name
The outrage in her voice when she asks him if he is ignoring me makes my day better eveytime I see it
It's also funny because of how dumb her sprinkler tea complaint is.
How did Donna keep a straight face😂. That must have been so many takes!😅
“I don’t know, i’m just scared.” so real of him
“i’m scared of a lot of stuff. i’m fine, i’m walter and i’m fine.” literally me
Covid turbo-vaxxer
I used to think this was funny, until I got a job dealing with the public and realized this is disturbingly accurate.
My job requires me to talk to people for 8 hours a day. I’m concerned for many of them.
I want to like this comment, but you’re at 666 likes, and I can’t change that in good conscience. 🤘🏻😂🤘🏻
Well in reality most things that people ask from their government are legitimate demands
Such as public healthcare, insulin at reasonable prices, safe clean water. Things like that
Pawnee is a perfect representation of a Republican town. They really are this stupid.
I worked in government for years, and this show was my catharsis to watch and de-stress from all the BS and bureaucracy.
I live in a town of 800 people and attended my first city council meeting ever last night. I’m more convinced ever that Parks and Rec was a documentary
Pawnee is a perfect representation of a Republican town. Old conservative white people. They really are this stupid.
The lady who made the tea with the water that said do not drink is a prime example of the general public
We are all the general public
@@godusoteand I’m sure we’ve all done stupid stuff before
She is an excellent actress. I thoroughly believed that she would make tea out of the sprinkler water and come to complain about it.
Having worked with a local government, dealt with normal citizens, and experienced the direct negligence and corruption of leadership, this show really captures how hopeless at abused you can feel as a public worker.
Also if you abuse a public worker everyone who works in the city will know, be kind people.
I actually work for a parks and rec department in a city much smaller than Pawnee is meant to be, but the public is accurate
Ham and mayonnaise! HAM AND MAYONNAISE!!
I think the more alarming message to take away from this is that there are tons of people that actually think like this. So many people legitimately live in a schizophrenic type world, where enemies are all around and every food you eat is poisoned by some nefarious organization. The internet created this and that's why we have so many mass shooters and neo-nazis. It's actually horrifying.
@@syntaxusdogmata3333her daughter is an idiot! HER DAUGHTER IS AN IDIOT!
@@syntaxusdogmata3333 No chanting! 😆
0:42 I love Ron points to that one woman when she talks about eating muffins and lasagna every day like “She’s got a good point.”😂 What makes it even better is the fact that she’s the same woman who made sun tea out of the sprinkler water.😂😂😂
Also, that one guy really loves to chant.😅
And she made the bad pottery, and her dog ate poop, and she found a sandwich with no mayo, etc etc :)
All of those characters are based on real life humans... Everywhere
@@riaglittatbh a ham sandwich should have mayonaise on it 😂
@@miquelr2353MUSTARD :D
Ive watched this show like 10 times and I just realized that all of the people in the community meetings had their own schtick
Right, this video made me realize that the same guy starts all the chants
Made the same comment a moment ago, lol. It's obvious when they're presented back to back, but not so much so, when months or even years seperate their fleeting, but hilarious appearances.
Hat's off to the writers and producers for this subtley running gag.
Exactly , I love the guy with the beard...he looks like a high school English teacher but he is actually nuts....the one who talks about "two fences"....
The chanting guy is my favorite side character in the entire show.
Except for turnip except for turnip
The chanting guy: "Topless park, topless park, topless park"
April: 😖😖😖
"Her daughter is an idiot!"
😂😂😂
“HE CAN FLY!” Easily one of the funniest lines in the show😂
YES! me and my mom (who watch the show all the time) always quote that
Agree 😂
His delivery is amazing.
I actually had to pause so I can laugh it out, that man's delivery was PERFECT
I love how Patton Oswalt's description is exactly how Boba Fett got out of the Sarlacc on the Book of Boba Fett show.
He's a big Star Wars fan and knows the lore. He probably improved that speech.
He got out of two sarlac pits. I’m dying to know how he fell into another one. I question his judgment.
@@Izzyduude He got out of one, anyway. Favreau and Filoni pulled that plot from the EU, either one of the comics or the books, I can't remember which, but either would have been written long before this episode of P&R.
didn't he help write the show?
Well that's how he had already got out in a comic.
"What's so bad about corn syrup, Corns a fruit and Syrup comes from a bush." Best Complaint 2:20
I agree 😂
Mine is the dog feces one. That one kills me.
I love that every other show is cagey about the public, but parks and rec was just like “90% of people are crazy great” and rolled with it😊
"Shut up, Kelly!"
"Make me, BOB!"
I cry laughing every time
6:18 "there's a lot of pill bottles in here" that lady looks so proud of herself omg
You know that Jen Barkley has a point when she tells Leslie she can do better than Pawnee, but this whole compilation really drives it home.
All they have going is putting up new scarecrow
I worked customer service jobs for 8 years and then EMS for 5 years, and now in the hospital for a year. With all that said, I can definitively say that Parks and Rec is the best and most accurate depiction of "the public" I have ever seen.
as a parent, 4:40 is the most realistic thing i've ever heard. LMAO
“I don’t know, I’m just scared”
Relatable
I admire how much Ron cares about the rights of the tax-payers despite very obviously not respecting any of them (rightly so) ^_^
"I'm Walter and I'm fine" 😂😂😂
If that was on a T-shirt I'd buy it.
The real villains of the show were the citizens of Pawnee.
Yeah, they’re idiots
I work in local government, and this is my life. 😂 On the other hand, if Patton Oswalt wants to address my city council on the Star Wars and Marvel universes, I will put him on an agenda because I can do that.
The chanting guy is the best
i´m with that pervert
TOPLESS PARK!
TOPLESS PARK!
“Her daughter is an idiot. Her daughter is an idiot. HER DAUGHTER IS AN IDIOT.”
The look in that baptist pastor's eyes when he repeated "turtle flu" haunts me to this day
"Tell Mort I said 'your move'." Dana Gould shows up for ten seconds and hits a grand slam haha.
I didn’t realize that chant guy was a recurring character lmao
9:30 - Bjorn Lerpiss is hands down the funniest 😂 "I'll NEVER consider that!"
The Spoonman Mike Mitchell himself
Holy goalie, it's a beardless Coach Beard @ 0:51. And they have similar energies, of course they do, that's funny.
That’s why he looked so familiar. Didn’t recognize him without the beard. Thanks.
BEARD!!
I KNEW I RECOGNIZED HIM BUT COULDN'T PLACE HIM. Holy hell, thank you Internet Stranger!
YES!!!
This is literally what it’s like being in customer service as well as the medical field
This was the most relatable part of Parks and Recreation for every local government employee.
2:57 This lady right here with the sprinkler water! The sign says don't drink the sprinkler water. So she somehow, for some reason, bottles it. Takes it home. Makes tea with it. And drinks it. Its just drinking the sprinkler water with extra steps! lol
“Excuse me there was a sign that said don’t drink the sprinkler water, so I took some home and made some tea with it now I have an infection!”
Wow you figured out the joke
Wow that's so funny they should've made it the joke
Sun tea
@@cpotisch From the number of comments I've seen like this, I think a lot of people came in thinking this show was a documentary. So many people saying this is a literal interpretation of working with the public. People can be frustrating sometimes, but if anyone's such a miserable person that they think this is literal, I think I can guess why they've spent so much of their career getting yelled at.
“Grovert, give her pills back.” She sounds like such a mom in that moment. Not really surprising considering the citizens act like children XD
The senior's sex ed was the most ridiculous situation ever, those watch group folk really tried to gate keep safe sex for old people because they were worried... about it being spread in kindergarten. Like, are they stupid? The people they're protesting "for" are so grown that their bodies are breaking down on them, let 'em get a little freaky in their old age! Lord knows that young husband is gonna be pretty familiar with bananas in his old age.
I mean, it's exactly what's happening now with abortion bans and book bans. So....... pretty scarily accurate
This is my favorite show of all time. It's so weird and funny 😂😂😂
Pawnee is so chaotic 😂😂
"There was a sign that says do not drink the water. So I made some tea with it and now I have an infection"
Easily the best depiction of the general public
As someone who used to work in public services, yes people can really be this dumb & aggressive and sometimes more so...
if you work for the government you have nothing to complain about.
Pawnee is a perfect representation of a Republican town. Old conservative white people. They really are this stupid.
10:48 Jamm leaning in because he is intrigued is hilarious
It’s insane and a little unfortunate at how realistic this actually is 😂😂
That's Republican government for you. They really are this stupid all of the time. Old conservative white people.
"What's wrong with corn syrup? It's natural. Corn is a fruit. Syrup comes from a bush."
11:21 "Hammuel L. Jackson from the Movie Pork Ficton"
I totally want one!
“I don’t know… I’m just scared…” is literally me all the time. Just in general
"But isn't all food bad for you? I've been eating lasagna and muffins every day for 40 years, and I feel terrible." Kills me every damn time.
9:10 "I have a few things to say about Laura Linney" - is probably my favorite line of the whole show 😅
4:41 she's so real for that.
"i just got aol" god i love pawnee
I love how interested they get for the star wars fan fiction fillibuster
What’s even better is that most of these clips were inspired by real life public sessions in small towns in California that the writers went to
I work in government and sometimes I have to work directly with the public and this is an accurate depiction of some of the interactions.
The people of Pawnee are the worst… And I love it! 😂
“Oh shut up Kelly!”
“Make me Bob!”
😂😂😂
Okay but Turtle Flu has lived in my mind rent free for years
Hand dryers are far less sanitary than paper towels.
4:55 Donna is intrigued.
Are we sure this is satire? I think we know all these people!! 😂😂
The woman @ 2:38 is my fav😂
I love the mixture of reaction at 4:55
Disgusted, Impressed, & Unphased
Coach Beard from Ted Lasso at 0:49 is amazing 😂
Good catch!
The chanting guy cracks me up. 😂
This is just fully a depiction of what it means to work in customer service, anywhere, ever, people will astound and amaze you with their stupidity, don’t visit the circus, work with customers and watch the wondrous stupidity of the world unfold before you
This show is gold.
i live to hear the theme music at the end of these clips. such a wholesome vibe. Gaby Moreno did a masterful job.
“I just got an AOL” 🤣
Man everything in that show has aged so well
This kind of comedy is one of my favorite aspects of Parks that I find so hilarious. Now that this compilation exists I’m gonna send this to people when I try to convince them to watch the show if they haven’t already 😂😂😂
Going from the 'Ham and mayonnaise' chant to the woman wondering why the sandwich she found didn't have mayonnaise is just perfect... whoever is editing these compilations, you're a genius 😆
Ron at 3:12 was clearly dying inside.
"I made this in one of your pottery classes. It's terrible!!! 😂
Ron's Donut Moment is amazing!! And When the old lady starts Jogging?!?!?! Donna nearly loses it
Topless park! Topless park! Topless park!
MY. GOD. IS. THIS. SO. ACCURATE!
10:09 this man is speaking straight facts.
"Syrup comes from a bush" You literally can't argue with that.
damn every citizen in pawnee are behaving like they got their disneyland ticket stolen
Wait, there's such a thing as "Triple Decker Breakfast Pizza"?!?
Tell me more.
Most people: Ha! Very funny but clearly an exageration for humour.
People who spend more than an hour in customer service: Oh no, this is them under playing it.
Straight to jail
2:37 The lady that made Tea with the sprinkler water is my favorite, its so random I loved it 🤣
Please make a compilation of every time Leslie bumps into that councilman while doing something embarrassing and/or unprofessional
Corn is a fruit and syrup does come from a bush. Those are cold hard facts!
that dude that likes starting chants. lol.
3:00 this was a legitimate complaint
Honestly, so was 8:47
I loved this show studying political science in college. It really showed how hard it is to please everyone
0:15 this guy never stops yelling
So much more entertaining than a paper company.
Wow, this is amazing
very good compilation, the guy at 3:32 is pure gold xD
The town of Pawnee is my favorite character full stop.
0:55 hang on…..IS THAT COACH BEARD?!?!?!
Yessir
10:15 that’s literally the beginning of BoBF!!!!
And at the end of that scene, Starlord is taking notes on Thanos.
4:52 She sounds so proud. I would be too.
"People caring loudly at me." 🥰
0:57 - COACH BEARD!!
The circular desk is genius!
I find it disturbing that Patton Oswalt's legendary filibuster is cut short in this video. WHY ARE THEY SILENCING PATTON
I love the arson guy lmao
Soon after moving on from Pawnee, the man questioning Ann’s nursing credentials would later become assistant coach for one of the greatest turnaround teams in the EPL, AFC Richmond.
Omg you’re right! I had to go back to that scene after reading this comment. Would have never recognized him.
