I have a 21 year old cockatiel. His past is so upsetting. His first owner was an old lady who left him in a laundry room with poodles. ( now if he is angry, he barks, lol) and his second home had many cats and dogs- he was living in fear. They had sandpaper on the bottom of his cage, which scraped his feet up, and they never got his claws trimmed, which hurt him. Also, they didn't know how to pick him up. They would grab him, without even realizing it had hurt him. Now my beautiful old bird is in a happy home. I'm glad he will be in a happy home for the rest of his bird life. Pleease, if you want a bird, research for weeks, months, as long as you can, because birds are hard work and need a lot of attention, care, and love.

And I always would ask my mom or dad, “can I get a parakeet” and I would sometimes search up budgie videos. My mom had budgies growing up, and so she knows a lot about them. Then I got onyx she is my budgie and i love her so much. When I got her, the man grabbed her out of the cage (the guy who was in charge of taking the new animals out of the cage) She was terrified of everything. She was scared of towels, treats that I put in the cage, she was scared of fast movements, she was scared of a lot of things. She wouldn’t take treats when I tried to gain her trust. She was very stubborn. I started to take her out of the cage and put her on top of it. She started to get used to me and realized I wasn’t gonna hurt her. She is now sitting on my leg.
Too bad they don't have much in the way of brains or education to take care of the parrot properly. Really don't care for their four legged sh*t boxes (dogs) but the parrot deserves better.
TIPS FOR FUTURE BREEDERS! I have two parrots (cockatiels. one white yellow and the other gray-yellow) it's sometimes hard work, but when you find the time you will love them as childe. I also definitely recommend buying a man-fed young cockatiel (as a young one she will love you as child love his parrent .) And I don't even recommend buying two birds, when there are two from the beginning it is possible that they will have a bigger relationship with each other than with you. Next, buy everything important or find out before you buy a parrot. So I recommend studying parrots carefully a month before buying. Im from diffrent country so i wrote this text on google translation. Good luck with your parrots.👍

Hi Nicole! Sounds like Amelia gets fairly frequently carsick?? Have you tried the following things to help her not get sick -- Chamomile tea (3/4 tea, 1/4 normal water) before car rides, and in a small bowl in the car Covering the travel cage with a blanket (similar to bedtime at night) Remove mushy or soft foods several hours before leaving (pellets/nuts/etc only)

I love my parakeets but I would never get a parrot, maybe a cockatoo, but depends because birds are incredible but so hard to take care of. I am so proud of you for working with her and not giving up! She’s adorable ❤️
Awww; Amelia is so beautiful, and she did so well at the store. I've been living with an African Grey since 1990, and you're right; they are a huge commitment. Mine loves car rides, and also likes riding in the huge doggy stroller that I bought for my standard poodle when he could no longer walk. I have to put her in a cat carrier inside the doggy stroller or she'll chew her way out in minutes. You're lucky Amelia doesn't chew through her harness. Smokey could and would bite through that in seconds.

The Girl Gamer I couldn’t agree more! Please don’t get a big macaw or any big bird for your first one, please. Many bigger birds like macaws, cockatoos, African greys, Amazon’s, ect are given up because people either 1. Rushed into it because they saw a big beautiful baby bird 2. Never did any research because they just thought they were cute and not that much work. I would recommend a COCKATIEL (not cockatoo) for your first bird because they are great first birds. But please do your research the only difference between large birds and small birds is that small birds can’t rip, tear or chew everything in your house. Smaller birds toys cost LESS that larger bird toys (and cages too.) and they can’t hurt you as bad when they bite. But still do your research because you need to see about blood feathers, foods they can’t have, what diseases they could catch and how, ect. If you need any of this info I suggest Marlene Mc’Cohn. If you do end up getting a bird there over all a lot of fun. Good luck!!🙂

Fun video! I am curious. Wouldn't the harness go on with the 'leash' at her chest. That way if she flew, you would be 'holding' her from underneath instead of her back when she is above you? Hi there! I have the same type of harness. For my bird. There is a clip on it that slides on the bottom of the harness that the leash is attached to. That way if your bird wants to fly, the clip slides to the front. It’s a bit hard to explain, but it makes flight more comfortable!

Your birds need to be tame and taught to wear a harness. You can't just throw one on and expect them to be cool with it
Aviator harness is the best. Comes in all sizes. And a dvd on how to properly train your bird to be okay with it. All sizes are about 30 bucks.

Fun video! I am curious. Wouldn't the harness go on with the 'leash' at her chest. That way if she flew, you would be 'holding' her from underneath instead of her back when she is above you? I like how you had the PSA about how much is involved with owning a bird. I have migraines, so a bird is out of the question for me. Thank you for sharing. I like your doggies. I am rather fond of Chihuahuas and Bulldogs (actually all dogs). Can you tell?
Hi there! I have the same type of harness. For my bird. There is a clip on it that slides on the bottom of the harness that the leash is attached to. That way if your bird wants to fly, the clip slides to the front. It’s a bit hard to explain, but it makes flight more comfortable!
