What's most amazing to me these days - with all the talent shows and internet/ utube, etc. Is the huge amount of gifted, talented, unique people who have so much to offer and never get to be heard beyond the happy clip that we accidentally come across sometimes. The cream of show business couldn't handle the competition if all the jewels of the world rolled into Hollywood at once to audition for their jobs. Really!
I'm glad idol rejected Tori. She wouldn't be the person she is today without the rejection. Tori didn't need idol anyway. She turned out even better without it :)

One person this video didn’t mention is African-American country singer Jimmy Allen. He auditioned for American idol season 10, but he was cut just before the live shows. He has served as a mentor on the ABC version of American Idol. He landed in 7th place on Dancing With the Stars season 30.
But we can only see them if there's footage, lol. If some of them, like Hilary's or Amber's never even made it to the judges, there wouldn't be anything to show.
I read that Bruno Mars tried out for American Idol as well but got rejected in the interview process. I local musician in my area, Darcie Miner, tried out for American Idol but got rejected in the interview process. They told her that they wanted singers to have no experience in the music industry. This disqualified Darcie Miner because she was previously, before her audition, signed to a small record label that went bankrupt less then a year after signing her plus Darcie opened for Patty Griffin and other major record label artists and this also disqualified her for American Idol since American Idol wanted musicians with no ties to the record industry. American Idol probably wanted musicians that have no ties to the music industry prior to the show so that they can solely claim that they made this musician a star all by themselves.

Those that have to struggle to get there can play with feeling because of the angst they have endured along the way via the slings and arrows they must endure not to mention the lessons learned the hard way. So this doesn't surprise me at all.

OMG PTX is the bomb! Idol reject? SO LAME! I don't feel bad at all now that I got through 3 producer rounds of X-factor ... Actually, the further you get, the more you learn about how to get further next time if you try again. I got cut at the cattle call for idol, but I did make the first round of X-factor the first year in the biggest cattle call LA had ever seen. I got cut on the second day, and didn't even get an audition in at all for season two. But season 3, I made it all the way through the LA producer rounds, but didn't get the final cut for the actual show. I felt like if the show had not gotten cancelled and had one more year, I could have at least gotten to sing in front of Simon and the audience, maybe further even- and it was actually his opinion I wanted to get more than anything, because I would actually believe him if he told me I didn't have what it takes or if I did. One thing I noticed that last year was a lot of the people at the final producer stage before the actual show judge audition had been at least that far already during previous seasons, Song choice is EVERYTHING, but not the way you might first think... I think a lot of whether you make the show or not has to do with the licensing costs of the audition song you choose - it has to be popular enough for it to be worth them paying to use it. If you do a song that is really great but too niche or unknown, it won't matter how great you sing it because they won't buy the rights to use it in the show for just one person's audition.... Probably why they encourage using stuff from the last few years in popular music, making it more likely that they already own it since they have produced much of the formulaic pop in recent years. If I had the money and ten years fewer mileage on my 44 year old body, I might actually try to fly to the UK and audition there with some real confidence instead of just courage. 1 Something to think about if you are looking to audition for a show like this - find out who the showrunners are and try to select a song that is already in their library to avoid getting passed over for licensing cost reasons. Maximize your opportunity by being easy on their bottom line even before you start....
Tamyra Gray hands down too! She was one of four remaining in the very first season of Idol so she didn't get the hometown visit reserved for the top 3. Kelly Clarkson went on to win the whole thing, followed by Justin Guarini who took second place, and Nikki McKibben (may she rest in peace) placed third. Tamyra went on to star in Boston Legal and was asked by Idol to write the single that the winner in Season 3 would record, which was a hit in its own right. Winner Fantasia recorded 'I Believe,' co-written by Tamyra and her husband in a park while watching kids play. There are so many blessings out there for many music hopefuls! My advice echoes that of the late Casey Kasem. 'KEEP REACHING FOR THE STARS AND CATCH 'EM!"
The ones who couldn't get past producers could have been stupid hollywood reasons - like they were at the point where they were more concerned with 'interesting' than vocal talent.
Being rejected by Idol was a good thing here. They would have been packaged in the Idol mold and fallen under their license agreement. Very few winners have gone on to do great things in the music industry. The key word is few.

I was most shocked by Mickey Guyton. I've been listening to her music on repeat for a long time and never knew she auditioned for AI! "Heartbreak Song" is my favorite but she has so many more that I love!
Even by 2016...this video missed Lauren Daigle who was already showing she was going to be huge. In 2020, Lauren is now the biggest miss given she is a song writer, musician, and one of the best female voices in the last 20 years. Lauren is a superstar and gets brighter every year. Having her appear in season 18 with her explosive voice and lyrics to help a finalist was real irony. Simon has a bias and his bias find B+ talent better than anyone on the industry. Superstars....he has no clue.
Daniel Murillo was also a contestant on American Idol back in the mid to late 2000’s and after he was rejected, he replaced Deuce in Hollywood Undead in 2009 and he’s been with the band ever since.

I would have to say Haley Reinhart. Best singer ever to grace the stage on American Idol. She is a true artist and performer. Her musicianship far exceeds anything considered famous today.
Actual Wakandan girl , Colbie suffered from severe stage fright, publicly known. It's very possible she had a lousy audition. Happens all the time! I actually saw her earlier on with Jason Mraz Live on some talk show, and she looked at her feet almost the entire time.

Being rejected by Idol was a good thing here. They would have been packaged in the Idol mold and fallen under their license agreement. Very few winners have gone on to do great things in the music industry. The key word is few.

I was most shocked by Mickey Guyton. I've been listening to her music on repeat for a long time and never knew she auditioned for AI! "Heartbreak Song" is my favorite but she has so many more that I love!

Even by 2016...this video missed Lauren Daigle who was already showing she was going to be huge. In 2020, Lauren is now the biggest miss given she is a song writer, musician, and one of the best female voices in the last 20 years. Lauren is a superstar and gets brighter every year. Having her appear in season 18 with her explosive voice and lyrics to help a finalist was real irony. Simon has a bias and his bias find B+ talent better than anyone on the industry. Superstars....he has no clue.

Actual Wakandan girl , Colbie suffered from severe stage fright, publicly known. It's very possible she had a lousy audition. Happens all the time! I actually saw her earlier on with Jason Mraz Live on some talk show, and she looked at her feet almost the entire time.
