Please please don't miss this video this is amazing.
I've worked with this stuff for years but you've really opened my eyes to all the hidden possibilities that exist within the adjustments.
I can't thank you enough and keep up the good work!
Thanks Starchy, I appreciate your comment!
Finally I've found clear explanation how Channel Mixer works! Thank you for this amazing educational video!
Hi @nonformalis, glad it helped!
This is awesome, but will have to be a 'come back often' tutorial. Thanks so much.
Yes, it is definitely a longer video than usual :)
I’m glad you started posting videos. Your teaching style is clear and informative. Thanks!
I appreciate that!
Wish all videos were informative as this one! Thank you so much for sharing all this knowledge!
No problem, Stefan!
This is spectacular teaching. Very clear and concise .
Thank you.
Thanks DJSkate, I appreciate it!

Best explanations ever, straight to the point and with real world examples. Thanks so much!
Finally finished 😊
I am really appreciate your hard work.
Thank you so much for this amazing video.
Thanks mtm! Glad it was useful!
Another superb video. Thank you so much. I am really looking forward to the Blend Modes video.
Thanks Martin!
Awesome. One of the most reguraly used parts of this software and yet, at times, the most confusing to use . . . but not any more! Thank you!
Hi @SerenyMor, thanks for watching and glad it was useful!
Fantastic explanation and examples. Thank you!
No problem...thanks for watching!
Great tutorial, Trent. There are a couple of adjustment layers that I never saw a use for but I now know how to use them creatively. Many thanks!
Thanks PixelRancher, glad it was helpful!
Wow, this is all well explained! Some I use for a long time for photo editing, but once again, many functional possibilities I did not know. Thank you for this lesson. 👍
Thanks for watching, Sechmettara!
Really well explained Trent, very good primer for all photographers and designers. I've been doing this for years using Adobe programs, yet this video taught me a few tricks I had overlooked. Thank you for making this. I've shared it with several colleagues who also said they enjoyed it. The fact that Affinity adjustments are all non destructive is a huge improvement over other programs.
Thanks Chrissh, I appreciate your comment!
Excellent topic, Trent! Thanks for the solid info! 😁🎨
Somewhere else, I learned a cool use for the gradient map that you didn’t touch on. You can create a palette from your image, limited to three colors, which will work out to roughly the highlight, midtone, and shadow. Apply those colors to a gradient map on a different image layer, and it helps that layer fit better with the color scheme of your main image. Very useful when creating a composite image.
That's an awesome idea, Jacobvaldez! I kind of do that in the LUTs section of the video, but I didn't talk about it too much. Maybe I'll make a full video on that technique in the future!
I've created a new video with some more Gradient Map tips here:

I thought I was gonna watch this this in pieces but ended up watching this whole video in one sitting learning about tools I never thought I would use and now looking forward to using them. Thanks! 👍
Hi @mrmaison4924, glad it was informative!
Best video ever! That explanation on the black & white adjustment was top notch!
Really excellent video -- so clear and great examples... I want more so subscribed... you have a great talent !
Thanks so much, Gary!
Excellent video! Hope you do some for the iPad.
Would love a similar video for the iPad versions. Thanks
Jeeze Louise, There's nothing like simple easy to understand examples to learn by. Thank You so damn much. You cleared up years of confusion with this tutorial. Again, Thank You.
Thanks Darren, glad it helped!

Thank you so much! This was really helpful to find useful adjustments
This helped me understand the practical benefits of AP
Great video, THANKS :-)
Great video - thanks for making this.
Thanks, WaltersJonanathan!
You are really a good explainer. Thank you for doing these videos.
No problem!
Wow, such a great vid, learned so much in just a short time! Just FYI, to demystify the posterize level slider. The number N shown in the posterize level slider for posterize adjustments represents the number of tonal values on a per channel basis. This results in a maximum number of NxNxN colors for the image in total, e.g. if N=2 you have at most 2x2x2=8 colors.
Hi @jackwelsh4896, that's interesting, I did not know that! Let me elaborate to see if I understand this correctly:
If Posterize is set to 2, then each RGB channel can only support 2 values (0 or 255)
If Posterize is set to 3, then each RGB channel can only support 3 values (0, 127, or 255)
If Posterize is set to 4, then each RGB channel can only support 4 values (0, 85, 170, or 255)
I just did a quick experiment and this seems to be true.
Thanks again!
Trent
@@TechnicallyTrentyour welcome!
Thanks a lot!
Wow, I came to your channel to get a better understanding of my 3D software, and you speak about normals!!! ❤ Are you planning on diving deeper into normals and perhaps making seamless textures? Thank you for your in-depth videos! They are a great help!
Hi @nipi8332 , thanks for your comment!
I don't currently have plans to do a video on texturing for 3D, but I can put it on my list. Currently I mostly work in the 2D realm. However, I do want to learn more about Blender, so maybe I'll make some videos on that eventually. When you refer to "seamless textures", do you mean assets that would be used on 3D models?
Your video is amazing
Thank you!
Super good video.
Thank you very much!
Trent thank you for such a great video using adjustments in Affinity. I love the way you take the time to explain how each work so very helpful in understanding them(at least for me, I like to understand why they do what they do). I’ve not come across any other Affinity tutorials that explain as well as you do. Your explanations are top notch. Thank you for the time and efforts in putting this together. You are a fantastic teacher. I will be saving and going back to often for reference, I’m sure of that.🙂
Do you have any plans of perhaps doing a video of the various live filters in Affinity Photo.
Thanks so much for your message, I appreciate it! Live filters is a great idea for a video....I will add it to my list.
I wish I found this video sooner. I suppose 5 months sooner would have been the best case scenario.
Thanks @seantabares2432, glad it was useful!
Video so good. Is there a similar one for blend modes Trent?
Hi@gyananchan4256, thanks for watching! Yes, I have a video for the Blend Modes, too:
th-cam.com/video/9rrcCrC81yk/w-d-xo.html
Wow, do you do one of these for masks? That's the most confusing idea for us just getting into this program. Thanks for this great video!
Hi @lloydstuartm.d.5625, thanks for watching! I have several videos on my channel regarding masks.
Here is Masks 101 for Affinity Photo:
th-cam.com/video/z4WUJS0lWjc/w-d-xo.html
And here is Masks 101 for Affinity Designer:
th-cam.com/video/7ch-MMRSAeA/w-d-xo.html
I also did a livestream on the topic a few weeks ago that you can see under the 'Live' tab on my channel. And if you search my channel for "Masks", you'll also see some of the advanced videos I did on this topic.
Hope this helps!
Trent
Trying to follow but I have a differnt lay out So how did you start
Hi wewillie46,
I was using Affinity Photo 2 and I think my setup was pretty close to the default. If you are missing one of the tabs, you can try opening it under the Window file menu. Is there something in particular you can't see? If you want to reset your whole layout, you can go to Window->Studio->Reset Studio.
👍👍👍
excellent solid input, many thanks
