“The child is grown, The dream is gone”
The line above, right before one of the greatest solos EVER, explains Comfortable Numb....
“Can anybody hear me” is the inner child dying & screaming out alone in an adult body & adult mind, nobody adult can hearing the pain....
As a child, you never give up on anything that means something important to you, an adult tells you to stop but you do not listen as if the adult is speaking a language you do not understand, the language being “give up”, nonstop waves of “give up”....
You become an adult, now you are just part of the brain washed adult heard, “adults only do this, adults only do that, that is childish”, you follow with no push back nor questions asked, you’re just “okay, will do, no problem”, now you’re Comfortable Numb....
“Feel a little pin prick” & every lyric after is showing that adults need something injected or taking for energy & “life”, as a child you wake up energize naturally”, no drug required to “live”....

"The lyrics were inspired by Waters's (the bass player)experience of being injected with tranquillizers for stomach cramps before a Pink Floyd show in Philadelphia on the 1977 In the Flesh Tour. "That was the longest two hours of my life," Waters said, "trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm. The song had the working title "The Doctor"."

David made musical changes to the song, and what appears on the album was smashed together. The lyrics are soley 100% waters experience from philly in 1977.... this is from multiple documentaries.

Got talking to the two Scousers next to me, me a Londoner, and described who they got their tickets and who they bought them off.
Their faces. They freaked out. I laughed and told them and they felt so sorry and said 'what a beyatch'.
When they were couple songs into Dark Side I said to my brother 'You know I think they are going to play the whole album?'

I know this song since '79 - I was 20 at this time - I always feel the same emotion when listening to it ! Tears are never far, I am so much touched by this guitar solo...
That PULSE live version is even better with a very long 2nd solo, David Gilmour took the time to buid it, and your emotion goes higher and higher... as he plugs his guitar directly to your soul....
And i always loved David's warm voice !

I was one of the lucky people that was at this specific concert ( Pulse ). I was actually at several of their concerts. That guitar solo was so epic that everyone in the audience was in awe. Even in the parking lot after the concert, we were still in awe from what we just experienced. It was an experience that I will never forget. All of their concerts were like that ( huge audiences ). David Gilmour ( lead guitarist ) has a way of making you feel so many emotions from his playing his guitar.. Every show they have done was always sold out in a matter of minutes ( literally ).

One of the all-time best bands, of any genre. Most of Pink Floyd's albums are concept albums and meant to be listened to from beginning to end, as one song flows into another. Your best bet would be to listen to the entire Dark Side of the Moon album ( it's less than an hour) & then maybe break it up into multiple videos if need be.

That was totally UNNECESSARY as you had already paused 5 times before, which is the most pauses I have seen watching 18 different reactors to this ). As the Lady on the left knows you HAVE to respect the solo as it builds and gains momentum until it reaches its climax but that pause completely broke all the flow and continuity that was growing. Ironically I was LOVING the Lady on the right admiring THe Stage Show which the other Lady almost totally missed. Good Luck but you would not have Copyright problems after 5 pauses. There were never more than 2 pauses in the other 17 reactions. Good Luck :)

So in a interview in 1980 Gilmour said "The main theme is the distance between our minds and the perception of reality because of artificial relief. In other words, we may not suffer, but that does not make us alive; escaping from life and its problems actually deprives us of something. This is the meaning of the song: life is out there; I prefer to face it and let it hurt me, than lose all sense of feeling."

I managed to catch 6 of those. What you dont get in the video is the amazing light show. Multiple what you see by 20 and it still isnt close. The lights were so powerful that when they 'waved ' the lights over you it was like going through a wall. Amazing effects. Any song from the Pulse gigs is well worth a watch.

It's legal to have you declared "criminally insane" for interrupting David Gilmour while he's performing a guitar solo. Just so you know...

Pink Floyd..... recommendations? After this, I would say for a similar feel? "Learning to Fly". Also, "On the Turning Away". From the same era as Comfortably Numb, but different vibes, Run Like Hell or Have a Cigar.

@Two Sisters React: Welcome to the sublimity that is Pink Floyd. I was lucky enough to see a similar performance live, also in 1994, but on the Rotterdam leg of the tour. It was the same stage, same everything, and also an amazing performance of this song. Every time I see this video - and I play it a lot on TH-cam, which is how I eventually got to your video - it brings me back to that 1994 concert. I am truly amazed that young people like you are getting to know Pink Floyd.
Now, if you want to react to another song..... There is a song called "Echoes". It was one of the earlier songs done by Pink Floyd, and there is a version that was done in Pompeii in the early 1970s, but there is also a version done by David Gilmour on his solo tour in Gdansk. And it THAT version that I think is so perfect and excellent. Be prepared though: The song alone is 25 minutes, so your reaction video might be an hour! :D
See here: (249) David Gilmour - Echoes (Live In Gdańsk) - TH-cam

I say this with deep respect and sincerity and being much like those underneath the comment I am writing. You ladies will understand this song more as you get older. Pink Floyd has this way of bringing about a clarity and understanding that is achieved with age. Great reaction, you have enjoyed a timeless classic on the surface level. Just wait until you can plumb it's depths. Just wait ♥️

In an interview released in the 80s, Waters (bass player), said that much of the song comes from something that really happened one evening when, in order to allow him to perform in Philadelphia, the doctor gave him a sedative for a severe stomach ache, which had probably caused by nerves. On the stage, his hands were numb (My hands felt just like two balloons) and his vision blurred, (A distant ship, smoke on the horizon), but none of this derailed the crowd, who continued to dance and sing. And it was out of this that one of the main themes of album came about: the disconnect between the public and the band. “That was the longest two hours of my life, trying to do a show when you can hardly lift your arm.”

The entire The Wall album tells a story about a kid who grows up being bullied, overprotected, cheated, and who lost his father at a very short age. At this point of the story he's so into drugs he's just not capable of "feeling" anymore. Also, there's a movie based off the album...
From the PULSE concert I recomend Sorrow, One Of These Days, Coming Back To Life, Learning To Fly, ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL, Money, Us And Them, Wish You Were Here and Run Like Hell.

You two were half-right. This song is mainly about Sid Barrett, a former band member who became mentally unwell, disappeared for some time and showed up one day having gained weight and shaved his head. His deterioration shocked the other band members and Gilmour wrote the song about how we insulate ourselves from life and drift being comfortably numb. You should be feeling the pain of that guitar solo, one of the greatest solos in music history.

I myself suggest: 1) "Shine on you crazy Diamond" I-V 2) "Us and Them/Any Colour You Like/Brain Damage/Eclipse" (all 4 parts) 3) "High Hopes" 4) "Time/Breathe Reprise" 5) "Dogs" 6) "Pigs (3 different ones)" 7) "Great Gig In The Sky" 8) "Hey You" 9) Welcome to the Machine - - - pretty much anything from the live "Pulse" DVD (1994)!!

The song is About a past member of the group Syd Barrett. He had a lot of troubles with drugs. But one thing to remember about Pink Floyd is you don't just listen to them , you experience them! If you want something great from them I suggest The great gig in the sky, Shine on you crazy diamond, Another Brick in the Wall. (I could go on suggesting so many more songs of theirs but this is a good place to start) God created the man who created the Fender Guitar David Gilmour Was the one who taught the Fender Guitar to Sing!

So glad you like it. I was there at the concert. The whole concert was as good as this. Now that you have put your heads down the rabbit hole of Pink Floyd, you won't regret it. The lead singer is David Gilmore who now tours under his own name. 2016 he did an amazing concert in Pompeii in the amphitheatre where no one else has performed to an audience for the past 2000 years since the volcano behind the theatre erupted killing everyone. Very very atmospheric.
Listen to the Dark side of the moon album with headphones straight through, it's a trip.
    Great reaction ladies.

Before a concert Roger Waters (the PF bassist who wrote the album this song is a part of, The Wall) had an infection. He was so ill that the band thought they might have to cancel the performance. A doctor was called in and gave him an injection (just a little pinprick) in the stomach. He was able to perform after this. The part about the fever was when he was a child and he was ill and his hands were so numb they felt like balloons.

The song was inspired by a prescription drug experience before one of their shows. The album The Wall that this song comes from is about a mans decent in to madness. Their is also a Pink Floyd movie called The Wall.

This song is about an ordeal the original bassist Roger Waters (not present in this performance), had before a show. He had a stomach bug and had to be injected with a cortisone shot so he could perform ("you may feel a little sick. Now can you stand up? I do believe it's working- good. That'll keep you going through the show, come on it's time to go")
He spent the entire show feeling numb and detached, and his hands felt like balloons.
