That’s Matt! I just completed a full timing chain job on my 2000gv this weekend. Could not have done the timing without your videos. You’re the man!!

I've been at this kind of work for over 50 years and I've never put oil on seals before installing. Instead I smear a thin film of black silicon inside the hole it fits into and have never had one to crack or leak. Of course the new seal has a coat of silicon rubber already, but I like to play it safe...I do commend you on doing a fine job and as always no one person can ever know it all because there's just too much knowledge to store in our tiny brains. My main point is that even an old mechanic can learn something from a young whippersnapper...thanks and be safe

Just picked up a 2003 Grand Vitara with 133,000 miles on it. What is the recommended mileage interval for replacing the waterpump? Do these give any sort of warning when the pumps go bad? We had a 2015 Mazda CX-9 that the waterpump went out at 83,000 miles and got coolant in the oil. Engine had to be replaced by Mazda. Luckily we bought it with a certified pre owned warranty so it was covered. I'm in central Washington. I think a previous owner of mine lived in Idaho. Are these also know for leaking valve cover gaskets? Thanks for your time and making the videos.

Hi mat I'm currently working on my 99 Vitara with a 2.5 L. I've replaced the valve seals disassembled the lifters cleaned them then re installed them I did the timing chain and now have put the timing cover back on I'm about to re assemble the rest of the engine and wanted to know if when you finished yours did you have to to a timing adjustment and if so can you tell me how you did it?

Matthew, is it possible to change the Water Pump without pulling the top of the motor off? Specifically, can I remove and replace the Timing Cover without removing the Valve Covers? I have a 2005 XL-7 with the same or 2.7 motor.

Yes it is I have different results. Some where able to do it some where blew up their engines. I just stick to the factory way on this one.

@@MattShaughnessy6 We did the job without removing valve covers. The motor is still overheating-- even when running without a thermostat (new radiator and water pump).

You never actually showed what timing components need to come off to remove the water pump.
