Noisy Classic Mac II - Will I fix it, or make it worse?

  • An update to the Classic Mac II video in which I was complaining about the noisy fan. So did I fix it? Well chances are if I'd made it worse I wouldn't be publishing a video about it!.
Anyway - time for a quick look at the inside of my Mac Classic II - This is not an authoritative repair guide - Also, please be aware Monitors have very high voltages inside, so please do not attempt to repair/tinker with such a device if you are not sure what you are doing.
The fan used is a Noctua NF-A6x25 60x25mm Fan - This is not a sponsored video, I selected it as it was one of the better reviewed items on Amazon. It's not designed for use in a Classic Mac - but the connector can be modified to do so. (obviously voiding warranty I guess)

    Quite a difference!

It's so much more usable now (apart from the slow OS).

      @@stevesretroloft Stick 6.0.8 or 7.1 on it. It'll make such a difference.

@@RichsRandomRetroReviews Managed to get 7.1 on it (quite easy to do as well) and it works so much better - 7.5 pretty much took up most of the 40mb partition (probably should've made the disk bigger when I originally set it up!) .

Hello Steve - Did you use the low noise adaptor that came with the fan?

No just the screws that held the original fan in. It might have been a little quieter had I done that (assuming they fit). But I wanted a quick and easy job for now.

The fan kit should have included a 4 pin low-noise adaptor cable in the kit that takes the voltage down to 7-8V@@stevesretroloft

@@jjr5500 I see, I though you meant the attachment of the fan! - I might take a look at that cable - but as I need it to be 2 pin connector I might need to be a bit creative with it. Obviously I didn't read any documentation that came with it!
